2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:26 PM) Jayson Stark @jaysonst 11m11 minutes ago One of teams in Lester hunt has expressed willingness to go to a 7th year, source says, but offer not necessarily enough to get a deal done i wonder if that was that other baseball team in chicago. -
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:33 PM) 5 /$120 for Shark is too much. $25 mil is ace money, and you are talking about a guy some of you are saying isn't better than Q. Essentially, we'd be paying him 6/$130 for the next 6 years. That would be close to what Lester gets, and Scherzer would end up getting around 7/$175 this year. I'd much rather have a superior pitcher for a little bit more without giving up Semien and a cost controlled young pitcher like Bassitt. I was thrilled when the initial report last night was Semien, Thompson, and Beck being dealt. Was definitely upset to see Bassitt go. Losing Ravelo hurts, though getting Ynoa back sweetens the deal. After hearing a suggested extension figure now, this deal now becomes less and less of a steal for us and may actually be great value for the A's. i totally agree. however, looking at it this way, the sox had to make this move, for many reason. Jeff has some following, is a good pitcher, can offer him QO, and the advertising will be a complete knock out. that last thing, the cost to get one of the Ace's is going to be crazy. i bet even money, Scherzer and his agent will start at 27 mil+

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:41 PM) No way Lester takes close to 6/$130 million. Baseball inflation being what it is, 5/120 million for Shark is probably right. the cost of doing business. he can ask, whether the sox bite or not, is another story.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) Braves. oh well, thanks for the update. now waiting for Ferdanez.
-
you know, with all the additions that the sox have done, it is really going to be a bwitch for other teams, esp the northsiders. all teams on the AL are going to have to compete and get themselves a group of above avg pitchers. let alone hitters as well. the sCrubs will need to make a splash or they will get their lunch eaten by the sox and the media train. this is a lesson that the sox have learned the hard way after the WS hangover.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) Once a big time prospect. He signed for a then record $4.25 million signing bonus as an amateur. Shoulder injuries have derailed him somewhat, but he still possesses nice stuff and is a worthy gamble. Likely going to project as a reliever at this point but he can't be ruled out as a starter yet. you are prob right, doesn't he have 2 plus pitches ??

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:10 PM) Toscano signed yesterday. with whom?? any more on any scouting rpt??
-
QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) Who's this other guy, Michael Ynoa? He "looks" like a right handed Chris Sale. ( 6'7' 209) i was trying to find the old MILB scouting rpt on him. damn they took it off.
-
all this will take for the sox to really take off, that first winning streak. mark my words. it is going to be absolute bedlam. the SP, the hitting. it is going to be crazy. make me want to warm up to Yoenis Céspedes and him in the outfiled.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) Herbert Perry? nah, i think it was kevin something.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) It's hard to get a read exactly on situations like that. I've rumblings that Keppinger was too. i didn't know that, maybe that was a hidden reason the sox ate his contract.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) Wasn't Swisher? AJ was a cancer towards the end. So yeah. i don't know of AJ, he was more like, i hate to play against him, but its nice to have on your team. Swisher, yeah he was. but not as bad. there was that 3b as well, can't remember his name.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) Interesting posting. I would be amazed if Shark puts people in the seats. Now I am a White Sox fan who splits time between Boston and Tampa during the season. In casual conversation, I have never heard a Red Sox fan say they were going to a game because Lester was pitching. Pitchers in New England do not sell tickets, the team does. If Abreu did not have a positive impact on attendance, my gut is only winning is going to solve the problem. oh i disagree. last season was really horrible in the beginning. trying to buy into the Paulie last good bye swing. then there was rumbling about this Cuban. when Jose started to hit, and the excitement he alone was generating, he was putting a face the sox baseball, after Paulie and it was his, face. Jose A. now the sox were lucky to have a great foundation to build to. Sale, Q Alexei. growing up in chi, i was excited when i will go to the game. i, with my cuz will look at the pitching matchup and see who may pitch when i was at the game. the hitters. maybe it is the different make up of chi fans.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) The Sox will have another clubhouse cancer at some point in time. It's frankly inevitable. oh that is a given. but it will be a drafted player. not one that comes from FA's.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:58 PM) That's why I'm not really upset. The As really didn't get any lottery tickets, except for Ravelo. No high potential guys in the bunch. They got useful players and ML ready players in Bassit, Semien and perhaps Phegley. I just would have used those useful players for another year and let Hahn make some more sly trades and move Alexei. As for 5 years of Shark, it's certainly possible - the Sox seem to love him and they know he will cost money. So they should be ready to pay. Which is why I don't think we see much more spending this year. I would like a sly Hahn trade for a LF though. 5 yrs of shark i understand and with that i agree. but The Hound reminds me a player who will fly under the radar for a long time. pretty much like Q.

QUOTE (bulokis @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) Asdrubal Cabrera. Most likely it will be Sanchez with Micah waiting on the wings. Then when Johnson is ready, Sanchez can be the utility infielder i do like the idea, but i wonder what is his salary demands.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) i like it, actually that is a nice slogan for a commercial. i have been saying this in not so uncertain terms, but with another one declaring, i might as well say it again. i would love to hear from the Cuban's Jose Fernadez - 2b, but i sure would like to know more about the other player, Dian Toscano, a left batting, right hand throwing cf. either way, i always been pushing for Fernadez.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) Which is why I also think the Sox may be smart to hold onto Danks until July. Let Rodon warm up to the role (ideally in AAA, but maybe the pen), and give Danks a shot to improve. He also has less money on his contract then. Just makes sense. i too agree 100% with this.
-
QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) I agree, Hawk crushed on him all year. I don't think he's ready though. It might not be pretty. Get Bonifacio. He's Bona-FEE-day. i like it, actually that is a nice slogan for a commercial.

to be honest, this deal took me by total surprise. don't get me wrong, he is the real deal a #1 closer, i just didn't think the sox will pony up to sign him. way to go sox.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) I like how he added he was going to get right back to it after he was done with their interview. i didn't have that much time to post today. but now is my chance. while i didn't like loosing Semien and the Hound, i do like JS and the prospect. Jeff alone will help with the fans, the 4 new bodies to date, will get the fans, the press will jump on the excitement of the fans. it is a win win situation all the way around. btw, i was really stoke on how many people were on, reminded me of the old times. yeeeeesssss

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) Rick Hahn just on MLB - good point about Shark helping guys like Rodon when he's brought up. Stressed the need for good clubhouse guys like LaRoche. yeah that was a given after getting Royce Clayton and that cancer. someone said, when i came back for a visit, on Rush. the sox will never get another cancer, they will do their due diligence and get as much background info.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) Overall I love this trade. Samardzija brings us a solid #2 starter. Ynoa's starting days are likely over, but he can be real good in the bullpen. Semien- trade from depth with Sanchez and Micah Bassitt- could develop into back end starter, best suited in for bullpen Phegley- no future with the team with 5 catchers Ravelo- loved him but no way he was going to play here with Abreu. well i am a huge fan of these 2, but i can live with it. get us on the rd for the playoff. so what is the next move

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) I thought PTBNL couldn't be on the 40 man roster. or someone drafted last yr.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) Levine said it's going to be a minor league pitcher going as the third guy. Seemed like he just found out on the air, but won't say a name. i hope it is not Adams
