QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) Also, I think it should be noted with as smart and thoughtful Rick Hahn is when speaking, I don't think he would publicly talk about Rodon being the best college pitcher if they were averse taking him. Wouldn't make sense to bypass the guy you have stated it the best college pitcher. For that reason, I don't think the Boras factor is as ominous as some believe. Plus, the Boras factor has become less and less relevant under the new Draft rules. Good point, I guess we need to see more upcoming info on the draft.....

I was trying to find the write up about Cleuluis Rondon in the future sox top 25 prospects... is it there? what is the prospect details on him?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 2, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) Yeah I agree. The Sox are guaranteed Rodon, Aiken, or Kolek. It would be awesome if Hoffman was this years Sean Manaea and slid all the way to round 2. Never going to happen but if he's actually injured, I wonder if it could benefit the White Sox in the long run. I respect what is being said by you guys, but why would they look at a prospect ranked from #14-19, unless they want to save slot money and/or they didn't want to deal with a possible hard sign.

QUOTE (shakes @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) Did you just post something knowingly false? According to the guidelines of this site "You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false." Can I get an admin ruling on this? The subtle art of sarcasm is dying.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 2, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) I was going to say the Sox might do Fedde if he could go under-slot but then there's Boras. Agreed. Who knows if Hoffman is actually out of the realm of possibility but the first tier went from four pitchers to three and we pick third. If the sox didn't like what may avail at #3 (ref signability) they may select a lower rated player and come to a predraft agreement with him and his camp. this has been done before with the sox and past draft #1. That being said, if the right pitcher is not there and Hoffman concerns, I would like alex Jackson c/of. Any thoughts???

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:47 PM) He's got a point. The Cardinals developed a number 1 starter who made his debut in the bullpen and then within a couple years he was a cy young candidate. But he was recognized as an injury risk and so that's why Adam Wainright was traded away by the Cardinals and then someone else had to endure paying him during Tommy John surgery. I mean, it's almost a perfect case study of Marty being right. The only thing that would make it not a great example is if the Cardinals had actually held onto Wainright instead and I just made that part of the post up to illustrate how perfect of an example it is in the opposite direction. if we were not in the hunt come end of July, then lets trade if we can get a haul in return.... a starting pitcher and 2 or 3 top prospects...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:48 PM) The Tigers just signed Miguel Cabrera to an enormous 10 year, $300 million extension. cough ... cough... do mean that it was only 300 million. no offense.... just my warp attempt at humor.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) Melky Cabrera, who is currently playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, was suspended for PEDs 2 years ago when he played with the San Francisco Giants. and he is the one who is a FA,.... crap. I was looking at the fa list.

Which Cabrera was caught and suspended for PED???

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:30 PM) It's much smarter to use the Cardinals than the Yankees as a model organization. The principle that "the White Sox should behave like the Yankees" is a recipe for disaster. You haven't seen the Cards overpaying in free agency very much lately. Rather, they have benefited from sustained intra-organizational success. How about we get that going instead? Then maybe our big city status will let us behave more like the Yankees in, say, 30 years after we've won a handful of championships. lets look at the rise and fall of cle and det. they always had good numbers of fans and season ticket was always really good. but now cle is being careful in their investment. with det, when they don't play nice with Boras... as that honeymoon is now over.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:20 PM) How much does it pay? Words may be cheap but I am not go the website and read about it..... with my lack of the spoken and written command.... I am barely qualified to post on this forum.

QUOTE (DashFan @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:19 PM) I think Dunn is gone at the deadline for prospects or pitching. I think the organization is soured enough on the whole experience with Adam that they won't keep him around another year no matter what he does the rest of this one. I think we have our 2015 DH in the making with Tank. I respectfully disagree. Dunn is a class act, his return on the money invested may not have been rewarding, but he provides more to the org..... look at what he did, by picking up the check a couple of weeks ago. sorry, but I can't remember why, but I remembered the gesture. that is but 1 example of what he has done... there are a couple more, but I am sure you got my point.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:17 PM) The Yankees don't care because they have more money than they know what to do with and they know the best way to increase franchise value is to win. Besides, the damage a bad contract can do is vastly overstated. hey I agree with the money statement and the yanks. but I do feel sorry for JR and the fans, b/c we have to constantly look at the money side, b/c we will always be 2nd fiddle to the sCrubs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2014 -> 09:49 PM) That was the lineup that Ozzie would always throw against Johan Santana. there you go ..... it a bite getting old.

I hope I will not get flamed or anything like that but >>>>> MLBTR Seeking Part-Time Writing Help with the quality of posters here esp those with great command of the king's language will do great.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 1, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) Actually, it was discussed on here a little bit. Basically, the most effective lineup is one that alternates between left and right throughout the lineup (much like the Sox). I don't know if or how much of that is affected by starting pitchers, but it wears out bullpens. there was a great talk even longer than a little while back. but I don't remember a study ever being done. baseball experts were the one who thought of it. I remember a long time ago I believe in the 90's where we were all righty except 1 hitter. the other team just threw lefty at us. do you remember when we had, what something like 3 or 4 lefties pitching.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) Of course he has been. He hasn't played in RF in >2 years. yeah.... he wasn't that good of an outfielder period. I think it was always understood he was going to be the next dh.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 1, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) I'm surprised he said that much - since he did, it makes me wonder if something funny happened with Puig's defection...maybe Abreu was to be involved, maybe Puig was supposed to be a part of Abreu's defection, something like that. make me wonder as well, with the rep that puig has, I would love to have been a fly on the wall in cuba. without reading too much into it, I see Jose attention is on baseball and family and if I remember into religion. maybe not in that order, but I am impress. I wonder if there is any major pitcher that may defect, with Jose and Alexie being our rep.... maybe we can have a inside track.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 1, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...-start/8536197/ Bob Nightengale article on Abreu. His relationship with Puig is mentioned within if someone feels the need to page Caulfield. nice article and again shows his class, when he didn't want to get into the reason him and puig are not talking.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) How much can Boras be involved with Rodon's negotiation and not kill Rodon's eligibility to pitch NCAA baseball ever again? I understand "advisor". Does that mean he can be his agent for "free" and just negotiate out of the kindness of his heart with the "hope" once said contract is signed Rodon makes him his agent? Or is it some sort of contingency where if he doesn't sign Boras doesn't get paid, but if he does Boras collects because at that point eligibility isn't an issue? I know some players have been busted for this. Personally, I don't find anything wrong with hiring an agent and if you don't sign, retaining eligibility, but obviously there are rules, and where the line is drawn on those rules, I have no idea. I always felt that falls in the realm of don't asked don't tell department. I will also admit, when Boras is involve, I can't speak nicely without ref him to some turd on the sidewalk. but this the new draft cap, I remember reading where he was or should I say the player was asking for the moon. I remember last yr draft, but I forgot the players name. maybe I am wrong with my petty dislike.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) MLB Stat of the Day @MLBStatoftheDay 41m Jose Abreu now has 71 total bases for the season. Highest ever for a rookie in months of March/April. Cuba is really a great unkwn esp for players.... I wish we can get a equal talent in a pitcher as Jose is a hitter.

Will Sox be buyers, not sellers, at the trade deadline?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2014 -> 05:16 PM) If I told Soxtalk in the pre-season that on May 1, Viciedo and Ramirez would be 1/2 in the batting average leaders, and that FLowers would have been on that list had he had enough PA's, how hard would you have laughed? I wouldn't have laugh .... but I would've asked where you getting that thing you are smoking. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) It's extremely unlikely that anyone picked in this draft will satisfy the White Sox's immediate need for a catcher. You draft guys expecting them to take 3-4 years or more to get to the big leagues except for occasionally the first or 2nd round picks. You don't know whether the White Sox will be in need of a catcher in 2018 nor do I. They could very well draft a couple catchers because every organization could use players, but you should never draft based on the needs of the MLB ballclub. By the time the guys you draft are ready to fill those needs, you will have different needs. what you are saying is very true.... however we still some young catchers in the org

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 1, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) From everything heard, Sox made a very serious offer at Tanaka. Yankees were desperate though and had a major need. Offering what the Sox offered, knowing their hesitation to go after free agent pitching, was a pretty big step and showed what the club thought off Tanaka. However, you still have to consider the downside risk, etc, and I Think that is why they couldn't quite go to where the Yankees were going and tried to come up with other options to try and entice Tanaka but with Yanks offer. Everything is well. What about you? it would've been great.... ref to me..... happily no more strokes or heart attacks.... what is it like 7 heartattacks and 2 strokes and 29 stents in 5 yrs. but the biggest thing is to fog I was in for those 5 yrs have lifted..... and all I have to say ..... damned I missed the sox world series and the 2 blackhawks Stanley cop.... s***eeee ofter waiting all these damn yrs.,...
