  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) If Lexi keeps hitting like this I could see someone biting on him and maybe sending us a couple good prospects. I seem to devalue our current team more than many of you. I think we are going to be buried pretty darn soon. So that would mean trying to rob a team and WIN THE TRADE big time for Lexi. Maybe acquire a GOOD infield prospect and two lower level pitchers for Lexi. If he keeps hitting like this, he has value to a contender as he's a good enough fielder. With Hahn success in most of his dealings in trades, I think most teams will be disinclined to deal. That being said i see Dunn being traded to a contender at some point. Decent value in return for Lindstrom, I would love to trade Beckman to stl, bos or even yanks for some of their prospects, if not them then a general trade. De Aza, forget it I doubt if any would trade for him. Most importantly is trading flowers, I know we may not have a good replacement, but his good hitting is getting me to wonder if he is on the PED. 2 wildcard in players being traded, imo, is hoping to trade dank brothers as a pkg and trading Viciedo.

  11. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) I still really like the idea of taking Chavis and sticking him at catcher to see if he can handle it. From Law on 4/13 • Sprayberry High School shortstop Michael Chavis has had some first-round buzz after a very strong spring season at the plate, showing strong hit and power tools after a modest showing last summer. Chavis is maxed out physically, 5-foot-10 or 5-11 and already very strong, so there's less projection than there is on your typical high school prospect. He has a quiet approach with strong hands and wrists, so the contact he makes tends to be hard, with plenty of loft in his finish. He showed better running speed than I expected, above average to plus down the line, although I think he'll settle in as a 55-rated runner in a year or two. He has the arm to play anywhere on the field, but his footwork isn't right for shortstop; he could move to third, or even right field, but he has a catcher's build and the intensity for that position, assuming he has the interest. I know a few teams have discussed having him catch at their pre-draft workouts; his bat might be too advanced to take that risk, but you've got a potential superstar if he takes to the position quickly. man I am in total agreement with you here. I have been on his bandwagon for a while..... but where he was expected to get drafted, low 1st, I never said anything b/c I really didn't want to get flame .... however, since I am committing myself here, another fav of mine is Braxton Davidson, Sean Newcomb and my fav is Max Pentecost. When Jeff Hoffman went down with injury, I did not like the idea of drafting Rodon, and the unlikely hood of not drafting Kolek, I just look and look at players profiles.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 6, 2014 -> 06:04 PM) He still makes 15 million dollars to play a major sport. I thought he could at least act like he ran on a treadmill a couple times this winter. Every time he got the ball it was just kind of a lackadaisical run through as if he was fielding balls in BP. oh man, that was cold ...... yet funny.
  13. QUOTE (wrenn @ May 6, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) I am sure this has been addressed here, but I couldn't find the thread. Does anybody know what was going thru Rick and Kenny's minds when they traded an effective closer for a 3rd baseman who can't seem to hit .200 in AAA. And we really don't need another 3rd baseman. Is there something here that I am not aware of....injury or drug/alcohol issues? Welcome to Soxtalk. I did it is too early to call that trade a bust. in addition who would've thought the other prospects would do so well. lets see what it looks like in July.
  14. did anyone found it interesting that Dunn was in the outfield? It is as if the sox was trying to showcase him, maybe with Dunn approval.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 6, 2014 -> 12:59 AM) Ten minutes of interview clips with Wild goalie Ilya Bryzgalov the cosmonaut. Pure comedy http://deadspin.com/compilation-video-of-i...pure-1572160271 you are correct.... it was very funny. thanks for posting it.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 5, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) This is pretty much the norm now in the draft though. The BJ's were the first to really do it when they had 5 of the top 60 selections in the 2012 draft. They went a little underslot on their first two picks in Davis and Stroman and then picked 5 guys that had signing concerns and then drafted 7 seniors in a row. I would love to see the sox draft position players after the 2 nd round who can make hard contact, not necessary a player who is all power or nothing swing. a player who has a good understanding of the strike zone, a player who can hit 2 for 1 in h / k has fewer k's to walks. this might be wishful thinking, but that is what I would like to see.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) That was a great piece. Everything you wanted to know about Rondon. He's a special defensive talent. great job, in what I think is a short time. what I hope for is an underdog like story from this point on. I hope he make it to the majors, even if it for his glove.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) No issues on my end. it happens only when I am logged in.... I tried it from 5 different site, including my friends computer at the coffee shop. it happens all the time when logged in.
  19. QUOTE (Greyone @ May 5, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) No the competition is not weak, each team has strengths and weaknesses. No, the Hawks are not guaranteed a spot in the Finals. Give me Anaheim, then Montreal though. Yep, Minnesota is a decent team, but nothing special. Do not want Boston under any scenario. The Kings have that magic feeling (everything clicking) to them right now, they really need a loss soon. good post ....... one thing about hockey that I know is, if 1 team is going to play the team that is favorite or has a history of playing good hockey or is very talented, that one team will rise to the occasion to play great hockey. playoff hockey is like any sport where a team can get hot. don't count on any team being out of the race, until it is over.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2014 -> 04:21 AM) Baseball has become more wildly profitable in the last 20 years, but not necessarily more popular. Part of it is simply the fact that live sports t.v. programming/content is much more lucrative than ever before, compared to the costs of producing a television series, unless it's a reality show with a much lower cost basis. I think the split is something like 46% currently have their favorite as the NFL, 32% for MLB. In Chicago, it's even more dramatic in favor of the NBA and Blackhawks over the White Sox for the moment, because of the winning teams and playoff appearances. You also have to look at the rise of other sports like MMA, golf (with Tiger Woods in his prime) and NASCAR. Then you have to look at the demographics as well, with MLB trending towards older/male fans, NBA mostly twenty-forties, and NHL/NFL attracting almost universally across families, particularly teams like the Bears or Packers. Even when teams like the Hawks play in the Stanley Cup, it's quite common that the entire family becomes emotionally-involved, whereas younger/teenagers girls are often turned off by the pace of baseball, compared to NBA/NHL (violence)/NFL. Part of it's the traditional/conservative/historic nature of the sport itself, as well. even thou it has been mention, I will do it again, prices of are just too much to go to a game. late 70's and in the 80's, prices was better suited for everybody, including the teen ager. those teens grew up and became fans and bought season tickets and of course with their family, it became an outing at the ballpark. now why go when we can catch the game at home, via/tv/cable/satellite/internet. what surprise me was the stats on the cubs.... if they are hurting.....
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 4, 2014 -> 11:27 PM) If you're going to talk like a pirate you should start your sentences with Arrrrghhh ! don't understand what you are talking about
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 4, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) Let's just trade Beckham for Samardalphabet and both sides of town will be happy if only that be true...
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) SoxNet.net ‏@SoxNet 3s The Sox have seen their starting 2B, 3B, RF, CF, #1, #2, and #4 starters, plus their top set up man already spend time on the DL this year. and your point is?? edit man I have green.... I am going back to red
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 4, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) How much are you willing to pay for Masterson this "solid" mid-rotation starter? at the end of this season, no matter where we are in the standings, there will a hand full of pitchers that can be signed. esp where we will be in the standing of the salary.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ May 4, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) If we were contending I'd be all over Beckett but I'd deal for someone young right now... my question is the f*** did we ever trade Danny Hudson for Edwin Jax, imagine if we still had Buerhle too according to mbltrade rumors, tor may be looking to trade him and several other players... question is what will they asked for in return from us.
