QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:46 AM) Hawks havent had a pure scorer in a LONG time. They need it more than ever. Like Keith said in a very solid post, the one real bright spot for the Hawks is the core of D men they are devolving. Seabrook-Auccoin Barker-Vandy Keith-Kukk/Byfuglian/ Barinka/Wisniewski That could be a D core for 3, 4 years AT LEAST. You also have Bulin between the pipes, and while he has had a sub par year, he still has alot left in the tank(IMO) Once again, the Hawks need a player to put the puck in the net, plain and simple. I pray for the Hawks to land a Kovalchuk,Ovchkein, Hossa type someday. They need it SOO bad. question ---- is johnson better than any dman we have now or in the future. we are talking about the #1 pick.... bell has been a huge disappointment and i would mind trading him for prospects. btw for those outside us followers of hockey, this yr draft in a really weak draft.
-
i don't know, if the hawks has a chance to either draft johnson or kessell, i just don't know. Johnson is the real deal on "d" and been rated almost since late last summer to be the #1 dman and pick. is he really that talented and is he better than anything we have?? ref kessell, i am not sold on him b/c of attitude problems and it is was is being mention on other boards. i would trade the pick and move down and go for either toews or tilsy who may be the best all round offensive machine in the draft. Size is the queston here. 2 europe hawks who came out of no where are tony salmelainen, petri kontiola. WOW and they still have another yr or 2 to develop. however if i was tallon, screw the developing in europe and bring them to the us and sign them. with the new CBA i am afraid of loosing them.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) I've emailed heather. Does anyone have Frank's email address by chance? The site will be up tonight. heather should and she should have his phone number as well. (methinks)
-
in the continue free falling of the hawks, a high draft is not out of the realm. so if the hawks have the possibility of getting e johnson d-man or kessel center, who would you pick???
-
excellent way to go. if you can, get a hold of heather if she is around, nuke is vey familar with hockey and the hawks. can you get a hold of hawkfan50, fullmetalninja, disgruntlehawksfan and behn wilson. those guys were great posters, i might never agreed with all they wrote, but they were hawks fan and great poster.
-
i was going to email you, the site went bye bye. there were some posters who became mods who ruin the board. the inmates ran the show and look what happen. i am sooooo happy for the way this site is being run, b/c you see what could happen. wirtzsuck is trying to reinvent the board. here is the time to get your hawks discussion site up.
-
some of the european hawks prospects are doing pretty well. i hope that = a better team, but i do see a big need for some offensive help on first line. the biggest need for the hawks is to get a different perspective on how to improve the team and for me it is not getting bangers and trying to convert them into something they are not.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 05:26 AM) That's a good point, and something I failed to mention. They did the same thing with Jon Klemm a few years back -- trying to turn a pretty good #4-5 defenseman into your top d-man. Doesn't work, fans get angry. Hell, same thing with Arny. He's a pretty good #2 center. When he's the BEST center on your team, your team probably isn't very good. I still don't think I like that trade. Your deprived of centers as it is, so you're going to trade your top center (and, one of the few guys who can put the puck in the net as well as create opportunities for others) for another winger and a draft pick? i don't know where i read that the sen's are not not happy with arny. it was said that the coach was mentioning how he needs to find a different way to motivate arny.

I know this might be early, but this is the only chance i might get, to wish everyone and your family a merry xmas. Having survived a 16 hour exodus to get out and coming back to my small community only to find that 35,000 families have lost everything, yet I was blessed with only minor roof damage. You might call this divine intervention, I call it being blessed. So for me, having my family with me finally, since sept, I am going to have a great xmas. I truly hope that each and every one had a blessed 05.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) what did Vizcaino do to our bullpen that made it so good. And getting rid of Marte is addition by subtraction. mlb, espn, fox sports, cbs anaylsis of trades, let alone some sports writer all mention that the trade favored the other team, but in they know why kw did the trade. i guess most are judging on 2 levels, talent vs talent and then as a side note, how it will effect the team. i don't know, that is how i am reading it.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) For those who think we keep getting the losing end of trades, I think it comes from the desire to have us rip off our trading partners. And this is an unrealistic way to operate a team in our situation. I look at most of Kenny's trades and think that the deals worked out great for both teams. Nothing wrong with that. While it would be nice to get the players we want for almost nothing, it doesn't work that easily. Most of the deals we make are for players who's contracts aren't expiring and/or for players whom the other organization involved will pay a substantial amount of his contract. Since we work with a limited payroll, this is a completely necessary strategy. And in order to get players who are indeed under multi-year contracts, or to get another team to pay for a good chunk of that contract, you'll have to give up some good talent, if not major league ready players. Now, one of the few examples where we gave up minimal talent for a top player was the Bartolo Colon trade. Colon's contract was expiring at the end of the year, and if I remember correctly, the Expos didn't pick up any of his contract. Thus, all we had to give up was Rocky Biddle and some spare parts. Its easier to be the clear cut winner of these deals, but there is still enormous risk involved. In Colon's case, we lost out thanks to his departure at the end of the year. There are plenty of examples of this. Take the Cubs for example. They totally fleeced the Pirates in the Aramis Ramirez trade, but would have had to give up a whole lot more if Ramirez was under contract past that year. Now, they have money falling out of their ears, so their chances of resigning these guys are pretty good, thus why they have no problem making trades that have this risk of an expiring contract. This is a luxury we don't necessarily have. The point is, in order to get the guys we need to win, and to do it for long-term results at an affordable cost, we have to give up more talent then preferred. You can look at almost all of KW's moves, and its obvious that all these things are taken into account. And as nice as it would be to completely fleece other teams with our deals, I think our way of doing things works out pretty nicely as well. a great point. but i would like to fleecing side a little more than getting fleece ourselves. that being said, i guess i have to serrle for us winning the series.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) Baltimore was until Raffy f'd up, their pitching went down the sh*tter and they didn't want to make the proper moves for a strong run. You're telling me if that team is any other divisions minus the AL Central or East, they don't make the playoffs? I'll beg to differ. They would've made it in any of the other ones. Toronto would've been a better team than us next year if we didn't make any moves. They get Halladay back for a full year, with Burnett, with Chacin(a year under his belt), with Ryan, and with Overbay. some teams are making moves to improve themselves, we need to do the same.
-
for the old time posters on this board, we been mentioning this for the longest of time. if kw build the team and it wins the series, keep the team in contention, we will take over. 1 yr does not make for me, but it is a great start for city domination, now for the hawks, bears and bulls to follow.

QUOTE(lightthematch @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) I wish people would stop worrying about getting a little more here and there. then what else is there to talk about????
-
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) so your fnal judgement is based on winning the series. what happen if we don't make it, how do you make a judgement call. you are justifing the trade on winning the series

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) In the day and age of baseball we live in, with players coming and going so quick, when you have a chance to capitalize on something, you take it, plain and simple. I was dissipointed to hear Young got delt. Just about as dissipointed as I was when I heard Reed was delt for Garcia. I really dont think it matters if Reed hits .300 for the next ten years. Freddy Garcia pitched an 8 inning shutout in Game four of the World Series, becoming the winning pitcher for a White Sox team that hasn't won the World Series in 88 years. We won the deal. KW right now is trying to put together a team that can be together for the next 3 years, and see what he can do with it. We basically have a 3 year window to see how much we can get out of this core, and I am all for trading away players that will help us obtain the players that will help us repeate a Series win, or win 2 of 3, or whatever. when the platform of judging the trades is that, i can't win the debate. but did we know for a fact that fg would be soooo valueable of a commondity in winning the series. no, did we hope that some day we would make it to the series, yes, and lets be honest did we have any thoughts that we would make it to the series last season????? i am excited and yes i can say that all the trades kw made, was to put this magical season together. however, are we judging the trades on whether or not we make the series or are we judging the trade based on talent potential. Zach define your defination of "stars". the players kw has traded how many of them are still on major league rosters let alone being a part of a starting role. how many haven't reach their prime yet. we can't judge all players on a yr or 2 after the trades. Reed, Gio and young are the ones i will look at, Francisco something was a contributating factor for his team. lets look at adkins, what has he done for us, or kip wells trades??? if we are going to judge trades judge them having and addressing what we might need is what kw is good at. i will give him that, i even gave him kudo for the royce clayton trade, know why he did it. all i am saying is when kw gets fixated on players, i think we over trade. this past 3 trades, are ones that help out the sox now and next yr, but did we give up too much. imho yes. i will wait to see happen develops in the coming season. i want the sox to build a dynasty, but in order to keep this good fortune going, we are going to need a farm to supplment those trades.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) Ok. we won't include this offseason. however, we will include this most recent post season. So many have panned every trade KW has made, saying we "overpaid" on each and every one of them. I see one thing ... RESULTS. That tells me so many don't have a clue. I rest my case. and i will say this, in most of all the trades that the sox's have made, most of these beat writers, who have far more access to the baseball scouts, managers, gm and owners have acknowledge that the sox overpaid at the time. hind sight is one thing to make a judgement call, but we need to look at the talent at the time.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) The thing that we don't know is will either of these guys ever pan out. Will they be Joe Borchard and John Rauch or Willie Mays and Bob Gibson? We are CURRENTLY in a position to build upon last years success and be favorites to get another WC. Strike while the iron is hot. When the time comes for us to rebuild, then prospects have greater importance. We aren't at that point right now. and with that, i totally agree with what you are saying. i have no problem trading these prospects, if they were the final piece of the puzzle to build or in this case keep the sox on top. lets not trade all of our prospects, what do have left when 3 yrs down the road. i love the trades b/c kw was agressive and address sox needs to keep us on top. all i said and asked, did we give up too much. when was the last time the sox made a trade and we were the winners of the trade. let not include this offseason.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Chris Young and Gio Gonzalez. The contributed exactly what to this World Championship team? they are prospect and can develop into something good. i am for tradning anyone as long as we get fair value in return and will help us to get to the world series. which we did, now make trades that will keep us there, which kw is. i just don't want to fleece at the same time.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) Oh I don't know, maybe to give Sox fans from around the USA and the world one place to unite and ENJOY the team? thank you and if it just an area to rant, then so be it. i believe that posting shouldn't be harshly jump on, or for that fact being called names esp from moderators or admin's we should enjoy that fact that we won the WS, kw is making trades, whether we like them or not and this place give us, the fans a place to talk baseball. healthy debates is fun. now that is my rant

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:21 AM) so we can all piss and whine and f***ing cry over every little pissant move our GM makes? damn... how soon you morons forget what we just accomplished. ENJOY what is happening... and realize that management is not sitting on their ass while everyone gets better, we are getting a LOT better. and for your moronic opinion to be posted as well. whether it is near sighted or not.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) If the shoe fits ... but in all honesty, there are numerous of other reporters who works for the sports magazines have said that alot of the trades that kw has made were in the other teams favor. that being said esp with these last 3 trades, kw went out and address holes that the sox have. sometimes it is good to over pay in trades, if the key element is what is needed. i like the final outcome of the trades, but i am wondering if he could have gotten more, or was there another option. which gets me back to what i said. when kw gets fixated on a player yadda yadda .........
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:44 AM) If it seems to you that KW overpays in every trade, then it seems to me you overvalue our players. Disclaimer: That is a general statement, not directed at any particular poster. i know it was meant for me yansy.

now with some of the major trades done and who knows of any future trade. how does it look now on the farm. re: of'ers, position players, cat's and pitchers. i guess i will come back to this as the season approaches.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:26 AM) If you don't think Boston has improved then the Yankees sure as hell haven't. Neither of those teams scare me to be honest. The A's are going to be good but they do not scare me come playoff time, to be honest the two teams that scare me the most in the AL are in our own division, Twins moreso then the Tribe. going into the season, the AL east doesn't scare me anymore. in the past i always thought bos owned us. in the west, the A's is the team, regardless of the playoff. in our own division, yeah cle and twins are the teams to watch out for. i am liking in what i see of our team next yr.
