QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Timo made $1M last year, and would stand to make more this year. I really think that's too much for a backup outfielder who didn't perform all that well. Any of Anderson, Owens and Borchard would be roughly $300k each. As I've been saying for a few weeks, let Owens and Anderson duke it out for CF. I also really like the idea people have mentioned here of sending the loser of that battle to AAA to get lots of at-bats, and putting Borch in as the 4th OF. Anderson/Owens won't be hurt by a year in AAA, whereas Borchard is out of options. Release Timo. Ozuna becomes your 5th option in OF. your thought of anderson and owen battle it out is a good idea. the idea of having joey b as your 4th i do not. 2 yrs ago, i like timo, last yr i am disappointed in his performace. that said, we need an experience of'er who can deal with coming off the bench. they should have a better makeup to handle that.

QUOTE(AirScott @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) helps my case. and what is your case, losing gio or you take on the anderson. \\ my discussion was gio and overpaying, and the sox not being a murderous row of a team, which ozzie and kw wanted.
-
QUOTE(AirScott @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) yes, I know, and he has pitched great, but he hasn't proven anything yet. and we know what Thome is capable of when healthy. we don't know what Gio's capable of. and we need another bat in the lineup, we weren't exactly a murderer's row this past season. our team was not meant to be a murderous row. our team was meant to be for speed. ozzie love speed. mark b and bmac are not power pitcher

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) i think dye and others were exactly what we had in mind...Lee was a salary dump...which is why we didn't get as much in return...I don't need kenny to get the best of any deal, just that every deal he makes works out for us the way its supposed to...if it works out for us than i don't care what the other guy does. I don't care what lee did last year because Pods was so integral for our success this year.. i agree with what you said on the pods lee trade. but cmon, lets win a trade. it is much easier to deal with the overpayment in the trade, b/c we won the world series.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) We won't be able to afford both Konerko and Furcal. That would be around $23 million of salary added to our payroll per year. what would it be worth if the sox do manage to go to the playoff, just money spent at the right position and the right players.

QUOTE(AirScott @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) maybe they'll be laughing IF Gio turns out to be an all-star every year. remember, no prospect is can't-miss, and Gio's never even been described as can't-miss. the Sox need a power left-handed bat (Thome), and there are a few promising centerfielders waiting in the wings. I wish it could have been Anderson instead of Rowand, but I'm still comfortable having Anderson take over. gio has been mention as the steal of the draft for the sox and has been highly touted by alot of exec in the baseball world.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) not every trade has to be a steal...there is such a thing as a "fair trade" where it works out for both sides. The podsednik lee trade was one of em. You forget the all important point...podsednik, vizcaino, and PAYROLL flexibility that lead to a plethera of talent. You could not have gotten the most coveted young pitcher on the market at that time for just miguel olivo and mike morse...you have to realize that proven talent has more value than unproven talent... you mention about a trade that is even for both, i would like to see kw get the best of any deal. granted that in the last several yrs has worked out, he still overpaid for them. you can't tell me kw had dye and others in mind when he was making trades. we got lucky. that being said, i will always say that i understood the trade and like the player we got in return with ref to scott and freddy and even thome, but i still think, at the time of the trade, we over paid for it.

ok let sign paulie and rafael, all it will take is money spent at key fa's and we will be back.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) It is hard to question KW's move after what he has done over the last few years. There are obviously things we do not know. He is the master at getting undervalued players for overvalued players. I remember the Pods deal was also largely questioned and look how that turned out. The Freddy Garcia deal was another one - the Sox gave up Olivo, Morse, and Reed, and look how that turned out for both sides. Also, don't forget the Phillies are paying $22 Million over the next 3 years. That is not chump change by no means. Granted, right off the bat it is hard to see why the Sox are giving up their starting CF, and 2 LH pitching prospects for a player the Phils deemed expendable with the emergence of Howard. You have to also look at the residual effects of this trade. This trade with the buyouts of Frank and Carl frees up cash to resign Paulie. The Rowand move allows the Sox OF prospects to get some big league time. Just take your pick there, the Sox are loaded at OF in the minors with Brian Anderson getting the first crack. So the only questionable move are the 2 prospects, and right now thats all they are. The Sox have actually done a better job of picking up other teams pitching talent compared to grooming their own thru the farm system. Even by losing the Haigwood and Gio, the Sox still have Liotta, Haeger, and Broadway, so the system in not completely depleted of pitching prospects. ok i will go back to my old argument, kw overpay in trade. granted freddy was a good pickup and i like it, but i thought he over paid with reed. in scott trade, i thought we didn't get enuf of a return, i know that scott was a huge part of our success, but look at the numbers that lee put up. i like the reasoning of getting thome, but did we have to give that much? kw get fixated in players he wants and will sweeten any deal to pull it off.

if the sox are really concern with joe's back (boras is the agent and arbitration), then why not go and sign rafael furcal. earlier his agent said that rafael would not mind playing ss, 2b 3b or even of. he wants to play for a good team.

i too was never that much of a fan of rowand, or i should say that i was a willing person to trade him. i will say this, he has grown so much as player these last 2 yrs, that i will follow him and his career and hope for the best for him. that said, i am thinking that we might have given up too much with out a decent return. i know what everyone opinions are on thome, but in mind, his health is a concern for me. even tho i know he is rehabbing ahead of schedule. i would have love to see the sox hold onto gio. now lets get paulie sign and that will be a great way for me to forget about losing gio. Best of Luck to Rowand

i am one of the older sox fan. i thought i had yansy beat, but i know i don't have you beat in ref to age. but welcome and btw, the minor league section in one of the best and we have a group of knowledgeable poster there. enjoy

in all honesty, i believe that jr would do whatever it takes and cost to keep a winning team here, as he did with the bulls. as long as he won the first one, which he did. i know i have gotten flamed in the past defending jr and i will do so, b/c i believe he wants to win.

sometime this past season, there was an piece where someone wrote on the difference of being and watching a sox game and that of the sCrubs game. i am going on the local espn sport radio tonite and i am going to talk about the white sox and being a fan in a houston astro fan base. note i do not live in tx by close by. plus i am going to defend my sox against these bozo's esp on their announcers. i love and i hope to make chi proud. also any stats on hitting and pitching and esp interlegue play this yr. please. i am at work and i have limited time to do this.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) I haven't heard a sinlge soxtalk member say they will be there yet. Curious to see if they are. i tried but was unable to get tickets. they had a lottery like systems for those who wanted tickets. i have been hoping that some tickets will be avail via ticketmaster or such,

give a reason on who you pick.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) AJ Burnett wouldn't even be able to make our starting rotation next year. lets see who are your sp's and we will discuss this more in detail.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) So you want us to have 7 starters and than possibly sign a guy that clearly crumbles under pressure in Farnsworth. And why trade Cliff or Cotts who we both have next year and been 2 of the better RP's this season for us. name your 7 sp's. i would like to see them listed. farnsworth - you may be right about that. i got carried away. bj is the man i want, no if and or buts about that. you can never have too many rp's. my suggestion was and still is, i wouldn't be too sad to see any of those players gone. but in ref to cotts and cliff, i would be happy if they are still here. however packaging them for a nice trade wouldn't be a bad idea, if one is there.

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) Someone complete this sentence for me. Brandon Wood is the best hitting middle infield prospect since _________. (a) BJ Upton (B) A-Rod © Dude, he looks better than A-Rod hell i should throw in my 2 cents worth. resign pk sign - fucral young ss, make uribe trade bait. sign - b j ryan (you could never have enuf pitching esp from rp. if bj doesn't sign go after farnsworth. sign aj burnett if the price is right. ok, i am not too sure on of'ers on if we really need one. trade or bye bye viz, marte, cotts, adkins, timo, and/or cliff. i am really not too sure what to do with big frank

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 05:56 PM) Curry dominated in high school at a heavy weight. When he entered the NBA, the Bulls had some of the worst personel working for them. Floyd didn't know what he was doing. Cartwright had the right idea, but lost the team. No one ever told Eddy, you're too fat and you need to lose weight. No one ever gave him s*** for his defense until Skiles arrived. That's when Curry decided he would dedicate himself even more. it didn't hurt that he was in a contract yr as well.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) You did say they are built to play hard, which, implies that they should be hard hitting. Hard hitting and physical isnt the Hawks makeup. They dont have a proven power forward, like a Bertuzzi, theyre going to win games by out hustling and playing better defense than other teams. The new rules are supposed to help these guys with lower talent score goals. Ruutu, Bell, and Barnaby are the heavy hitting forwards, none of which are imposing. Vandermeer is the big defensive threat. None of which would classify this team as a tough physical team. They're young and have the potential to be very talented. Sure, theyre scrappy, but most 20 something North American forwards are. Theres no lack of heart, but they dont scare anyone by there physical play, especially without an enforcer. you really don't need an enforcer like player to play a brand of game that the hawks are tryint ot do and again i never mention that that hawks are trying to scare any team by their play. all i said is that the hawks are built and it was mention in the summer before the draft a team that will take the body and be physical. hence the draft of big talented players. are you saying that the hawks are not built to be a hard hitting team, a team to put a body on the other team, to disrupt their game. out hustling and playing good defence is the basic plan for all teams and that is the recipe to win. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) Playing hard and hitting DONT go hand in hand. Some players and teams are not the hard hitting type and they still play hard. One of my favorite players to watch, Nikolai Zherdev, is decent sized, works his ass off and is a goal scoring forward, he probably will throw one check per game. You dont have to punish the other team to be successful. first of all i never made mention of playing hard when i was making my assessment. next what is the make up of the hawks? are they a finesse type of team or not? what was the the topic > hawks not playing their game which is???? (hard hitting and physical type of play) i never mention that on every hit the players do, it has to be a punishing hit, and the philosphy of the hawks game plan has most often been put a body on them, let them know you are there and distrupt thier game plan or flow.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) You mean there are still people dumb enough to hand Dollar Bill that much money for season tickets?! Holy WASTE OF MONEY Batman!!!!!!!!!! hitting and being physical goes hand and hand. the discussion was the hawks lack of, whatever you want to call it, hitting or being physical. they are built to play hard and sometime they don't do it.

what ever what????

wow, i know there is no way he will be able to keep this up, but it is nice to see a goals scorer on the team.
