  4. QUOTE(redsoxjamie @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 06:04 AM) For the record, I'm not a he, I'm a she. And the "hate" here is nothing compared to some of the vitriol spewed on SoSH. welcome aboard. i will tell you this, we have very knowledgeable female posters here and this board welcomes all posters who knows baseball.
  5. he is coaching material and i bet the sox will look to him when he decides to hang them up.
  6. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) I guess my competitive was mistaken. Organized I guess would have been a better term to use. My point is punishing hits and such don't affect the game as much as Hawk fans believe. Big hits, meh, give me the stick check and a quick pass and I'm a happy camper. You dont need to knock people on their ass all the time. Yeah, drafting big defensemen works sometimes, but you dont always need size to clear out the front of the net. Positioning is a big part of it. there are some russian and finesse players when hit and i mean by a clean hard hit, will disappear for the game. so you are telling me that will not affect a game plan or team are not looking to take them out of the game plan. i am saying and so are some of these posters, good clean hits is part of the hawks game plan, and if they are not doing it, then they are failing. with ref to the d-man, yeah i can see a 5'0 - 6'0 ft d-man trying clearing the net if a mark messier or a mario lemeuix camp there. a skilled d-man will always know what to do,
  7. QUOTE(hi8is @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) great pict.? oh come on now, lets not be coy, you know what i mean.
  8. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/ml...xt=.jsp&c_id=kc "The Royals claimed Peralta, a right-hander, off the waiver wire from the Angels on Friday. The Royals also announced that Long and Field had elected to become unrestricted free agents. Peralta, a 29-year-old reliever, was 1-0 with a 3.89 ERA in 28 games as a rookie for the Angels this year. He had 30 strikeouts and 14 walks in 34 2/3 innings, holding right-handed batters to a .178 mark. He also pitched for Triple-A Salt Lake, going 4-1 with 10 saves and a 2.70 ERA in 20 innings spanning 19 appearances. In 250 Minor League outings, Peralta is 22-12. He originally signed with the Oakland A's." First, it was Derrick Turnbow. Next, it was Bobby Jenks. Now, it is Joel Peralta. beside what you wrote about him, what does anyone have to say on this guy.
  9. QUOTE(hi8is @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) but i really do like it when people smear their s*** on me thats not entertaining its a part of who i am. i will return to my isolated corner now. i love the way you alway come up with great pict. this is soooo funny and kool.
  10. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) My father was born in a Yorkshire pit village and doesn't know a slider from a swing set. He spent most of my childhood trying to get me into ferret racing and badger baiting. He cried for a week when I told him I was dating an American soldier and cried for a month when I told him I was marrying HER. I only started to follow the Sox so I would have something to talk about to my Yankie wife, oh and I liked the logo and uniform colours. Is that me driving the bandwagon? If so we've come a long way in the last 3 years. man, if we are telling life stories here and btw nice history. i am first generation sox fan, my father who is a sCrub fan came from the indian reservation (Apache) and was a iron worker. in spite of a sCrub fan family, who my sister and 2 brothers are of the same, i was the only real fan, a Sox fan.
  11. let me change the subject here about the hawks. i am so what knowledgeable and i am not living in chi. so i am only listening to friends. some has said that rene borque (sp) looks a lot like a young steve larmer when he was a rookie. nothing flashy but at the end of the day, he got points. what is your take
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) I watched that game. Ward was incredible. And I will tell you, Crosby is THE real deal once he gets the rid of the shakes and adjusts to this level. He had flashes of BRILLIANCE in that game last night. Holy s*** can this kid see the ice for an 18 year old. so the crosby looks good. was he like a young mario or peter fosberg?
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Some of the arguments on this thread are funny, playing competetive hockey or rec league hockey or whatever. I'd suggest some of you spout things only if you know what you're talking about. However, some of you are very astute with your observations. Interesting thread, indeed. would you care to explain.
  14. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) To the first paragraph, have you played competitive hockey? To the second, I wasnt alive back then, but I'm pretty sure they wanted to know where Hull was because he could score. Yeah, he hit people, and made them think twice about carrying the puck, but I think most of the time teams were aware of his offensive presence. yes i played hockey. with ref to where hull was, he was such a punishing hitter that players didn't want to get hit that hard blindly. so you look over your shoulder. that goes to reason on why you don't like to draft small for a d-man and go for someone who can clean the front of the net and make them aware. i remember a another story where phil espostito (sp) hated as most other players hated camping in front of tony, it was b/c tony would whack the s*** out of there shins if they got too close. again making the players become more aware and not concerating on their game.
  15. who have we done better against?
  16. i am happy for all the jumpers, this will increase the fan based. i kept on saying is "if jr built the team to win, we will increase the fan base, the season ticket fans will increase, thus creating more money to keep the team there, in the forefront in chi" we are always complaining that we have lack the fan support, well here is the beginning to correct that.
  17. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) That's the one thing about hockey "fans" that I dont understand. They act like hitting means youre going to win. And hitting is going to make your team better. It's a shame that these fans think that hitting is such a big part of the game. Its a method to steal the puck, not kill someone. So if the team isnt as physical but still gets the job done, I'm ok with that. Saying not hitting enough is a reason for losing is horrible. The game was lost on bad defensive decisions and too many penalties, and poor goaltending. hitting is use to make the other team look over their shoulder, if they are constantly doing that then you disrupt the flow of their game and game plan. thereby giving you an edge. in the 60's and 70's. esp with bobby hull, player was always looking to see or keep a presence on where he was. which lead them not playing their own game. that is the reason with a hard hitting game and i mean a clean hard hitting game. this also lead to the late 70's season, when teams would be hurting after playing the hawks.
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Protecting the innocent, SOXTALK was born out of the reluctance of another community to give a little in the opinion department. As great as the CEO's ego of SOXTALK is it pales in comparison to another. If it hasn't happened ye,t one day SOXTALK will become #1. Then all of us who where either banned or fed up with the alternative will have the last laugh. then we should all default thank the other side, b/c of their rules........... haha who has the last laugh etc.....
  19. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) Immediately following the ALDS in Boston writers started speculating that Konerko could be their future 1B. They even mentioned a bidding war with the Yanks. I say it's not going to happen. Koney has done enough this year to become the most popular baseball player in Chicago. He's done enough to position himself to be the #1 sports endorsement candidate for Chicago. That's worth at least $10M/yr. Niether NYY or BOS can promise him that. It won't be there from the start. Not with the marquee players already established there. He would have to earn it all over again. In Chicago he could have a subpar year in 2006 & it will still be there. The team's success only enhances his personal success. Unlike Sosa & Ordonez, Konerko is fluent in English & his interviewing skills have really blossomed this year. There's no reason he can't become the #1 sports talking-head in Chicago. I hope Konerko realizes this. I suspect he does. The White Sox don't need to outbid the Yanks & BoSox to retain Konerko. They just need to make the total package of remaining in Chicago look much more attractive than the East coast. Sweeping BOS in the ALDS just made that a whole lot easier. i agree with both you post as i think paulie is going to give the home team a discount and i think duke coming in as a rp will help both him and the sox.
  20. i like the way damon is very modest about his worth.
  21. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) WGN stated that the team was expected between 12:30 and 1PM tomorrow at the usual area at Midway (is that on 63rd closer to Central?) and that they would acknowledge the fans. Anyone have difinitive info on when they will be arriving back in Chicago so we show our appreciation? niceeeeee car
  22. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) what's with the smilies? having some fun today
  23. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) You know what? That's true, more then you realize. YOU ALL f***ING ROCK! thanks i accept on behalf of all my fellow posters. hehehe
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Well Arrington right now isn't contributing very well for the Skins, hence why they are considering cutting him. He's not doing a good job stopping the run, and just wants to rush the passer all day. Granted Hillemeyer ain't on the level of Urlacher and then Briggs, but it's not a gaping hole that the Bears need to fill. DT I think you got a pretty good rotation in there with Harris / Johnson / Scott, better than other teams in the NFL for sure. And I really think the Bears need a Witten/Gates/Shockey at TE, it'd take their passing attack to a whole new level, and really open up the field for whoever is the QB. i remember marshall of the 85 bears and his talent at lb. put lavar on the strong side and let him go. then deal with other factors that the bears need. they have 4 million to spare now
  25. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) As one of El Duque's biggest supporters here at SOXTALK I am beaming right now with joy. What he did last night was the stuff of legends. Dream the impossible dream. Live the impossible dream. Consider the scenario: Manny hit's a HR off Garcia to bring the BoSox within 1 of tying the game. Marte loads the bases without getting a single out. One of Boston's best hitters (Varitek) at the plate with a chance to put Boston on top. El Duque retires the side with 3 very hard fought at bats in Varitek, Graff, & Damon. The kind of at bats that usually end up in walks or hits against normal pitchers. But El Duque is anything but normal. Not only did he get 3 outs without surrendering a single but he did it with pitches out of the zone. I can't think of any greater contrast in a single inning than Marte & El Duque. Marte is a thrower. El Duque's a pitcher. The difference between them can not be measured in speed, strength, matchups, or age. The difference is that one is crafty & pitches against the hitter. The other pitches against the zone. It's pretty obvious who's who. Marte like always it seems once again barely missed the zone. In his mind & in Ozzie's the umpire was squeezing him. But even Ozzie can't ignore the fact that the BoSox weren't swinging at Marte's barely missing stuff. They knew better. It seemed everyone knew better except for Marte. El Duque arrives on the mound & knows better. He knows that he needs to make pitches that the BoSox will bite on. The zone doesn't matter. He succeeds masterfully. He peppers the BoSox with rising fastballs that appear in the zone but rise out of it. He peppers them with sliders that look so compelling to hit that by the time it's obvious they will drop no hitter can lay off them. Numbers are fine for measuring greatness of skill & talent but they can't measure greatness of mind. I think El Duque even taught AJ something last night. do you think his seconding career could be that of a rp?
