then why even have a msg board

ok, i am trying hard to figure this out. i am excited and disappointed at the same time. i know i have said this in the past and i got flame, but when kw gets fixated on someone, he imo over pays in trades to get him. it is a sellers market esp with pitchers. trading of marte, i like and understand why and the quality of the player we got, but was that the best we could have gotten in return? don't get me wrong, i like what we got, but i think he overpaid. the trade of thome, giving up gio, yeah he is a highly regarded prospect and some will say prospect are not a guarantee but still. i know loosing gio hurts and i am over it, as long as we get a hard hitting player that thome used to be. now with this trade, i was confuse on what we gave up. i honestly try to look at it from most poster. "in order to be a constant winner, we are on top, with a decent farm, we can trade from strenght." this was basically a young for javier trade in my book. with that i thought i was happy. there is no guarantees that orlando will be healthy. but as a package, did we give up too much. now i am saying we did. however the end results may pay off. if we make another trade with regards of jon g. i am now really concern with the farm. remember when the yanks traded most of their farm for players to take them to the playoff. now look at them. i hope we are not heading in that direction.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) BTW, I like the idea of Dotel, alot. bingo, i have been banging my brain on this, i have been looking at the stats and i am confuse. i am sure there is talent there and yet what has he shown.

QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 07:23 AM) hopefully this year, ozzie knows when to pull them when the game is out of hand one way or the other. how many games did the sox played with the outcome of the game was decided by 1 or 2 runs. there wasn't too many games that were blows outs.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 05:18 AM) "I just see absolutely no reason to be worrying about the lack of a lefthander or the health of Hermie. The outfield defense is much more suspect at this point if we're speaking about concerns, as of course the point of the offseason is too quibble about matters like this. Outfield defense, problem #1. Relief Pitching, problem #2. But neither of these are problems worth worrying about, at least not until Spring Training hits." Outfield defense? 2 of the 3 pieces remain the same, BA is projected to roughly the same of Rowand--less range, better arm. How is that a huge problem? A 24 year old closer with a history of arm trouble, a 22 year old Bmac, and legit concerns about repeat performances from Contreras, Buehrle and Garland seems much more pressing than outfield defense. I'm not saying that any of the players I've mentioned won't play well, just that outfield defense is a long way away from importance and concern compared to the performance of the pitching staff. you are putting mb there as a concern of a repeat performance. he has been without a doubt our steadiest sp. but the other 2 you have mention, i agree with you point. however, positioning a 6 sp/rp in orlando is the way to go. i hope our minor league pitchers continue to develop.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) Im not as high on Pieryznski as a lot of people here seem to be.... But hey give him a 3 year contract and by that time either Hernandez will be ready if he ever is going to be or we can resign him again depending on the situation. i agree with this, a 3 or 4 yr contract is what i was hedging at. by that time, the youngster should be ready to make the bigs. but on the other side, if aj keeps producing and being very productive, then lets see what happens then.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) well, we spent a high pick on donny lucy last year there is another, but lucy is our best defensive guy if i remember correctly and how far away is he to making the bigs??? the point is, i hope a long term contract is offered and accepted. i would like to see aj back there for a long time.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) seriously, especially with our terrible record bringing up catchers on the flip side, do we have a catcher that can take over for him and if yes, when is he projected to be up here.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Actually, this is the worst time to take out Orton. No sense throwing Rex Glassjaw in there in the snow. He wont accomplish anything except to slip and hurt his vagina again. lol that is funy

can someone please explain to me why the sox reacquired tim hummell??? don't get me wrong, i like him from day 1 when the sox drafted him and was sorry to see when he left. but i am trying to figure out why we got him back.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) What Carl Everett is at 34, Jaque Jones is at 30. i just don't know which way i would go. i can see the idea of us getting him, but it comes down to money. the money spent here, can be use for contract extension and address those needs later.

i think yansy was thinking or at least that is the way i interpreted is, as a whole package, tejada is not a major upgrade. and i agree. what we have to give up to get him is not worth it.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) The key is depth. KW has always said "you need 15 deep in pitchers to get thru a baseball season". Looking at the Barons thread in the other forum, it's obvious that some outside help needs to be brought in. In terms of ready-to-contribute pitching depth, the Sox have Bajenaru and that's it. Which means, I expect to see several minor league contracts offered in January. that has been my position in some past threads when i mention that we need more pitching. problem was i couldn't think of a way to post my thoughts. but jim you hit it on the head with the 15 pitchers esp with the uncertainity of several of out key pitchers. problem with my way of thinking is you bring in a pitcher, he is going to want that ball every 4-5 days. how do we explain what we are trying to do. anyho didn't the yanks try that 6 man rotation?
-
QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 06:31 AM) Why does everyone suggest the Sox sign a pitcher? They should use wat they got in the minors. THOUHGTS? if there are major league ready are better than what we have or can get, i don't see the sox brass holding them back.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) well, we look towards the prospects but sometimes they don't develop...i.e. durham to willie, lofton - rowand, valentin - uribe (kinda)...frankly, my mind is on fire from last night still so...help 1 thing he neglected to say and should have is this, when was the last time the sox picked higher than what, let say 10th????? all the sox picks have been in the middle where as the sCrubs been picking much higher.

QUOTE(suffering-nomore-sox fan @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Since 2002, I have been known as "Suffering Sox Fan". Now my suffering is gone with the World Series Championship! Isn't it great? hey i remember you............. how have you been. haven't seen you around in a long time. Long Distance Fan from the other boards

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) You dont think Don Cooper and the minor league manager had more to do with that than Hermanson.......... jenks have said it, while the game was on, hermie would saunter by and sat by him. he would then start peppering him with situations on how the game is going and asked him question on situation. the bottom line is hermie provided what is essence being a bench coach for jenks during the season. he also worked with the youngster when they came up. this is all documented by the press. i don't know, but to me, this is a making of a good coach.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) uhhhh, I think he's already signed for 2 more years. you want to sign him to an 8 year deal or something? lol tsk tsk, his contract is up 2007. which is 2 yrs from now

i am completely surprise in the activity that cle is making in offseason. how much ground has cle made up on the sox? i think it is going to be a tough yr next yr.
-
can someone tell me what he isn't really an option if we can't get mueller.
-
if i was the sox and kw, i would really jump on resigning mark in hopes that he is offering a home team discount. i would really not want to go longer than necessary and piss him off, losing out of signing him.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:01 AM) Hermanson is unlikely to even play next year.. any team that trades for him is just dumb. i like his makeup as a future coach. look at the way he help with jenks when hermanson wasn't pitching.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) You want to pay Damon more then Konerko? The sad part is, he might get something outrageous like that. See: Rafael Furcal. i rather offer the money as an extension for mark b and tie him up for several more yrs.
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Anyway they overpaid for him, but he should be successful for the two years and he kicks ass versus us. bor-ass must be his agent
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) I always remembered hearing that ARod was upset with the way the White Sox wanted to handle his negotiations, so they were basically ruled out from the start. i remembered it differently. i think it had to do with bor-ass and how the neg was going. now i remember something else and i am looking from a homer perspective. but didn't bor-ass not present our last offer to arod. instead he froze us out. as i said i remember something like that.
