QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:08 AM) It is all the discussions regarding contracts and player values. It seems as if Sox fans would rather the team keep within some pre-defined spending limit than over spend for a player who would help the team. And it isn't always within the context of a team's budget. A typical response will be "I'd take him for $6 mil but not $7". So if your team makes a million less next season that would bother you? i to my amazement agree with what qwerty had to write and i see where you are going with this. so let me ask you this. would you be like georgie of the yanks and overspend to get players who you think can help???

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) But it is. Sports can be a huge part of a person's life, and they bleed their favorite team's colors their entire lives. It also seems, atleast to me, that baseball specifically has this as well. Maybe that's because baseball is this way to me, maybe it just truly is this way, and maybe it is every sport in general...I'm not sure. The fact that he witnessed something huge, something monumental in White Sox history, something that hasn't happened since 1917 can help put closure to one's life. If he was a true, diehard Sox fan, then he witnessed something incredible, and it was a hell of an end. Sorry for your loss...many condolences go out. I wish you the best through these times, and it will get easier to cope with the loss as time goes on. Be happy and thankful he did witness a world championship before he passed, and that he was a happy man in resting for the final time. i think you are very correct in what you said, as i am a huge sports fan. bears, bull, hawks and sox. i was a season ticket holder when i was living in chi for the bulls, hawks and sox. i saw 3 bulls championships, a hockey all star game, a hockey stanley cup, even tho the hawks lost(pitt). i am said i wasn't able to see in person the series game but was glad we won. so i would want something with me when it is my time.

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:08 AM) We are still trying to trade Juan Pierre, and the ChiSawx were one of the potential suitors. I have heard good things about both of these guys, and would love to have either of them. What are the chances that we could pry one of them away? before the thome trade a very good chance, now i don't see that happening

the growth of arow as a player is what i was glad to see. you can always tell that he was a pro team player and a happy go lucky person in the clubhouse (from what i heard). i am sad to see him go and wish him the best always. peace

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) If somehow we lost PK, I really dont' see us having a good backup plan. I would quite literally expect us to see Ross Gload get a chance at 1b...maybe Dye also with another of the young guys (Young?) getting a shot in the OF. I can't imagine KW would sign another outfielder as a response to PK leaving...Ozzie would probably give Dye a chance to prove himself there in a few games and try to throw some youth in the OF. Personally...I just can't see Thome staying healhty the full year if he has to play the field 120 games, given that he's already working with a surgically repaired elbow that he hurt while fielding. don't forget that thome has a bad back as well. only if the young prospects are major league ready. band and young can make it bareable.

I mention during the season that i wish that frank would retire. i know i got flame for that statement. i will say this again, frank has a wonderful career, shorten by injuries and i hope he will retire as a sox. this reminds me of the carlton fisk deliema where fisk would not realize his career ran its course.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) It makes sense I guess. I just can't believe while she is baby sitting you, she lets you on the computer unsupervised though. LOL

let discuss the idea of what should the sox do if paulie doesn't sign? i really do hope that he does sign.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) While I agree with all that, what if someone wish a smooth move for the White Sox to Vegas, if that was indeed a possibilty. I know I wouldn't appreciate it in any way, shape or form. you are right and kman agreed and i believe that most agree with you on your orginal statement. marlinfan welcome and good luck with the marlins

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Have you noticed the detail kenny goes into now to 'check out' a guy's clubhouse demeanor before he acquires him? Pierzynski basically had to talk Kenny into signing him by convincing him the 'clubhouse cancer' label tagged on him was hogwash. That Clayton trade may have been what laid the foundation for Kenny putting so much emphasis on 'quality' people in the clubhouse. Once bitten, twice shy. a really good point, one of which i never thought of. that being said, i always love the idea of aj in a sox uni. i love how he gets on people nerves.

QUOTE(Palehose13 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 01:36 AM) What is laughable is that only one person (I believe) realizes that the $22 million coming from Philadelphia is to pay Jim Thome. i know.

did you do the db??? great job

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) Do you really miss Aaron Myette and Brian Schmack? i really don't care about that. it was the idea of royce being a cancer and was so disruptive. he went against alot of people advice and traded for him.

would boy george or elton john count

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) They do seem to be more concerned about Crede's back than we were led to believe. We are just going to see how this one plays out. 100% agreement. look how stable, granted we never won a series, the team look with fisk behind the plate

QUOTE(soxhawks @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) miami cant even sell out dolphins games, so how can they sell out baseball, the problem with this is i dont know where they would move to. vegas

i really can't believe i am agreeing with kalapse on this one. granted the attendance was brutal, but us die hard fans kept the pressure and kept on demanding more from the owners. finally when we won the series and it looks as the turn around is about to happen, it prove what we kept on saying. put the winner on the field and things will be different. they won 2 series in a short time and still no attendance??? i only hope for a second series in 6 yrs and yes you will see my fat ass doing cartwheels.

QUOTE(kramer99 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) I think sometimes u guys may forget that we werent the only team actively after thome...so Phillie did have some leveridge to pry good prospects from the sox. Im sure the rest of you guys would rather keep the two lefties who have not proven anything and allowed the Indians to pick up a great veteran who can hit 40 homeruns and lead them to a 2006 AL centrak division Championship... Oh and theres no guarentee we will sign Konerko...so without thome our middle of the lineip would be rowand- AJ- DYE...not much of a threat if u ask me! all too true, was cle really in the running for thome?

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) Most teams that stay put actually get worse because other teams around them get better (KC is the exception). Also, even the best teams in the league have weaknesses or areas they can improve on. The Sox won a ton of games by 2 runs or less, but I am sure for Ozzie's sake that KW wants to make some of those 3-4 run wins compared to the 1 run nail bitters of 2005. while looking at the trade and i will say this again, i can see the reasoning of it, it is my opinion that gio's talents if fully reach will come back and bite us. lets hope thome and co can put us in the playoff again.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) we have won trades, we won the marte trade, we won the Uribe trade, IMO we won the Garcia trade, we definately won the Contreras trade...KW has won a lot of his trades, he's only made 1 abominable one (Ritchie), one bad one (Wells, though due to sirotka being injured and we really lost no one, gained no one...wash i say), and add another one to the win column for Bartolo Colon. The rest were pretty fair (lee, thome, Blum) did you forget the royce clayton trade?
-
QUOTE(timotime @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) you are questioning all KW's moves, and we just won a world series. thats why he is the GM and you are a fan. and it is my right to continue to question his moves whether you like it not.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) You have to take it on a case by case basis. If the deal makes sense, I have no problem with dealing prospects. To me, the Thome deal is a good gamble. Thome's injury seems to be healed, from all reports, and he's very productive when healthy. A lefty power bat was needed for balance in the lineup, and paying him 7.5 mil per is less than you'd have to pay Brian Giles. Remember: Prospects Are Like Suspects - Line 5 Of Them Up and One MIGHT Be "The Guy". good post, however, a gamble as you said, is risky in giving up the prospects without getting more in return. i guess it is in what people see is the value of what we gave up. is thome healthy and is he fully recovered, how long can we expect to see him play and still be productive, these are my concerns.

QUOTE(AirScott @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) my case is that it's still a good trade, Anderson has speed, which you spoke of. just explain to me how UPGRADING at DH goes against KW and Ozzie's philosphy. don't put words in my mouth. i never mention that i was against the thome trade. in fact i went out of my way to say that i like the idea of trade for thome. what i said over and over is that we over paid. \ so tell me where i mention i was not for upgrading????
