QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) If they miss out on Cespedes, I think they go in with the team they have. Sometimes the best move is no move. if they do that, imo i think it will be the wrong move. the fans will really protest......

24/7 Wall Street: Sox 5th largest declining fanbase in sports

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:05 PM) How did the 05-06 Sox attendance compare to the 05-06 Cubs? I dont really know the best source for that type of data. i would include the 2 yrs 2005-06 and the 2006-07 the following yr should be affected by the WS win as well. just my opinion. -
The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2016

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) For the record, among the 7 writers who contributed to the list by voting and discussing, the final count was 4-3 in favor of Anderson for #1. Divided court, as close as can be. I went Anderson. I have concerns about Fulmer's delivery, but more importantly, I was really impressed with what Anderson did this year. His defense improving a lot to where he's likely a future shortstop is big. His hitting at that level and age is also big. this is me, i too would think anderson as #1 by a lot. Fulmer is potential i would rather see a full season or so on how he does. maybe 1/2 into the next season. -
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) I would have spent the money on Upton but that's about it. I'm about the only one who is willing to give Garcia another year and think he will improve. He's only 24 and he's coming off his first full year. He should be 100% healthy and I'm willing to give him a chance rather than spend $80-100 mill on Cespedes, who has also put up pedestrian numbers earlier in his career. At this point, if I was the Sox, I would sign Austin Jackson to the 4th OF role and also Pedro Alvarez to be the LH DH. LaRoche is a sunk cost and can be a pinch hitter and give Abreu the occasional day off. even thou the sox thought of trading him, laroche, at this time, he is a sox until spring training or later. i can live with jackson and let avi platoon with laroche in hitting. what will it hurt. even thou i mention Alvarez yesterday, he carries some huge baggage and his rep???? i just don't know about that.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) There's plenty that's attractive about Jackson, but most of all I agree with those who've emphasized that he doesn't have the pick attached. Desmond, nah. I'd rather just roll with Saladino. He's a league minimum guy we're reasonably sure can provide plus defense in a lineup painfully short on guys like that. We can live with his bat, though less so than if we add Jackson to the outfield than Cespedes. the main thing i see in many post is the fans are not wanting the club to spend money foolishly but to be smart and finish what they started. would it be nice for cespy..... yeah but i think a backup plan or player like jackson will do fine.. and have money to spare for other final tweaks.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) No he's never played the OF. It was mentioned on the intranet a month or so ago, and a couple of people ran with it, but if he isn't worth the contract he is going to get as a SS, I have no idea why he would be worth it as an OF. He would have to be a SS. It would make no sense to bring him in as a OF. If you want to work with him when you get him to see if he is truly capable of that, and to make room for Anderson or Saladino at SS, that makes sense. But to bring him in as anything but a SS initially would be hard to understand the logic. good counter. i will also add, looking at the update of the sox prospect list, that has been posted, i really would hate to loose that comp pick. the sox needs all their picks.

QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) At first I was very optimistic about one of the big 3. Yo being who I was most optimistic about with all the reports. Upton getting 6 years 130+ diminishes all optimism for Yo. That said I would be cool with going A Jackson and someone like Latos on a prove it deal. I'm not a fan of giving up a pick for Fowler who I've been a fan of his tools since his days in Colorado. People suggesting Desmond for stop gap SS then OF next year. Has he ever played the OF? I don't follow the Nats but he never blew me away when I would occasionally watch the game so I'm not the best to judge him but for the price difference I guess him paired with Jackson and Latos would be OK. excellent post. i am in total agreement.

The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2016

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) It's here! Here is our list of the Top 30 White Sox Prospects going into the 2016 season. This is the result of work from nearly the entire FS writing staff, and we're quite proud of it, though of course it is subjective and everyone will have different opinions. There is also in there a list of players who were discussed but just missed. What do you think of the list? What would you have done differently? Also, if you like it, please do share it around social media or with your friends! excellent ... excellent... excellent. as a fan of the sox minor league, i am excited to see the fruits of the hard work the sox FO has done lately. i am excited and i can see ..... dang the prospects are really young. it will be a while before they can bang on the door. now for the work yous guys have done...... Bravo. this is the best....... -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/padr...des-market.html Padres monitoring the Cespedes market now. wow, that is very surprising ..... earlier in the off season there was a little snippet of the org will try to unload Kemp.... b/c of the salary and how much stronger that NL West has gotten stronger. a rhetorical question is.... why will they be interested????

24/7 Wall Street: Sox 5th largest declining fanbase in sports

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) Same old angry and bitter commentary on the fan base... Meanwhile, the article is focused on an eroding fan base, which should be alarming to the powers that-be over at 35th and Shields. this bold is the key to any discussion. eroding, wasting away, deteriorating away..... that is point. can't anyone see that, esp the owners... fix the product. now the key word for an opposite meaning is rebuilding........ -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) They're not going to give Anderson the starting job even if he hits .350 and Saladino hits .150. If they could get Desmond for $40-45 million over three years, i'd do that in a heartbeat because he gives you a starting SS as well as insurance at 2b, DH and in the outfield. He could have taken 7 years and $107 million last year but turned it down. That was basically $15.3 million guaranteed through 2021 would he have accepted the deal. Much more likely to earn that money than Cespedes at $25 million per season for five years. Even two years, although three would be close to ideal because we don't have anyone penciled in for the 2018 lineup other than Eaton, Abreu and hopefully Tim Anderson. ok i will accept what you are saying... i don't necessary agree with it. but that is kool. however i think the priority is the OF.... when the dust settles, i can discuss other improvements.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) The Royals added Cueto and Zobrist and ended last year at $152 million...while we played the fiddle as the Shark Tank burned. and i can bet kc thought that the extra money spent was the best investment they did. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) This was the Blackhawks in some polls until they turned it around so obviously the White Sox are on the verge of a dynasty. good post, the hawks turned it around when $$$ Bill passed away and they brought in a whole new FO. now the sox can turn it around, if and i mean if they can finish what they started.... yeah it started last yr and it was not all perfect .... esp in the coaching dept, but it is a start. now get that final piece in the OF and maybe another sp. they, the owners and the fans will be the major winners b/c of this improvements. book it. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) I would much rather sign Austin Jackson than Dexter Fowler. Jackson lets you keep you the comp pick and gives you another good defender. It could move Eaton to an OF corner. It also allows you to sit LaRoche vs LHP if they also keep Avi. Sox have had weirdly constructed teams before. a voice of reasoning.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 06:26 AM) It would make some sense out of his defensive numbers. He has good range with a strong and somewhat accurate arm, yet his 27 errors are puzzling. I'm thinking some of those errors he made are on plays that are usually base hits, deep in the hole kind of plays. Hard to say without seeing him play every day. Hopefully someone on here can give some more insight to this. yeah i like his offensive side of his game, but i really hate the idea of loosing a draft pick. i really want the sox to keep all their picks. as someone mention yesterday, if the sox does indeed fix the outfield, then 1 yr with a player that is on the team now, as a stop gap for anderson, i can deal with that. who knows, maybe anderson will surprise many in spring training.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 07:00 AM) http://nypost.com/2016/01/19/dont-be-foole...-not-shrinking/ Good grief the Mets are really becoming a pain in the ass. With their outfield it doesn't make sense for them to be in on Cespedes unless they trade one of their current outfielders. Not sure what to think or how serious to take the Mets/Cespedes rumors anymore. with you mentioning the Mets, i thought since the Mets are being talked about, i can add this. yesterday i started to read more on the Mets and the Madoff fiasco. in one article the writer mention that maybe 1 more yr and then the Mets will be able to be somewhat normal..... that is if they really keep a tight reins on their finance. so it this is true, i can see the Mets be in the running, however if the article was wrong, then i can see the Mets just driving the price up.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 06:10 AM) Ouch, that is a bad start. Was just looking him up at Fangraphs and he's rated above average in range, had just 9 throwing errors with 18 fielding errors. Is it possible some of his fielding errors came from his good range enabling him to get to balls many wouldn't normally get to and therefore being a tougher play than normal? That's what it sounds like to me. if some SS who has a great range, yes, they will have some extra fielding errors. nice catch.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 04:25 AM) I have always liked Corey, but have not liked his contract, because I think the money is better spent on defensemen, but with Corey playing like a Vezina candidate and Keith being a cyborg, the Hawks are really making off well with only two D pairings on winging the rest. He has just been on fire. But seeing how Pekka Rinne is suddenly average at best, there is still that worry about how long Corey can keep it up. and here i was thinking of trading him for prospects and salary savings..... that would have been a huge mistake.... now i am thinking of who will step in when CC is done as a hawk.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 01:12 AM) Exactly. Too many fans bought into the media hype, especially the local media. All do respect to Chuck Garfien ( I kinda like the guy) but this thread was started due to a tweet from him. but i am actually wondering how many were from cespy group. enuf for hou to come out and say those rumors were wrong, or something like that.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 01:07 AM) You are wise. I use Facebook only for keeping up with bands on new releases and tour dates but I do get feeds from the Sox as well. Otherwise, I have one friend and that's my wife. ok i lied to you, i only use twitter .... you know... for my ahhhh deliveries.. get my meaning. america been very good to me.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 01:04 AM) I remember there were a few SoxTalk members that really wanted Kang. I honestly don't remember how I felt at the time but I think I was kind of 50/50 about Kang but not really sure. I'd have to go back and take a look at the thread. Anyhoot, I hope the Sox take a serious look at Hernandez. Don't get me wrong, not trying to sound like he's going to be the next great sensation in baseball, just want to see the Sox take some more risks in the international market. Kang turned into a bargain and I think Kim will too. exactly just continue to sign the players and hope at the end of the day, the sox will have prospects to help the freaking team. damn how hard is that to understand.... and yet the sox FO is doing things like snail mail.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 12:54 AM) To be honest, if Cooper really did say that ( I have my doubts) then some Sox fans need to grow a thicker skin and stop being such pretentious whiners. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Have you seen some of the ignoramous comments left by fans on the Sox site or on Facebook? Whiny toddlers looking for something to rip the FO about but if the FO has anything to say in return the fans instantly turn into the role of playing the victim. From what a few SoxTalk members have said, the same stuff happens on twitter as well and especially lately. I won't register on the Sox site because of the moronic comments left by fans on literally every article. I will admit that some of the comments are pathetically funny to read. i do not do facebook nor twitter. but you do make a very compelling point.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 12:57 AM) Who? Because I don't agree with that. The sox have been long rumored for Cespedes. It'll be a letdown if we don't get him and sign someone like Fowler. let down yeah i agree. but what if he is still insisting on a 6 yr contract and at 25 mil a yr....
