  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) I just don't see how Bryant can win his grievance. Of course he was ready to be called up 9 games earlier. Of course the Cubs used the system to their advantage, but what constitutes the guy is ready? If someone hits a certain amount of HRs or his average is at a certain level, does he have to be called up? Everyone is different. Bryant will get paid plenty if he is as good as advertised moving forward. Boras tries to extract every dollar he can. That is fine. Teams try to save every dollar they can, which is also fine. and i think that will be the crux of their defense. "who knows better when a player is ready for the mlb, the player or the org" if it is said that the player, then all players will deem themselves ready for the mlb. second bold, it is all about the money and 1 yr early for fa's, plus this give the agent an excuse he wanted to challenge the ELC
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Meh. The Dodgers have the best pitcher in baseball. They have a great shot at landing Kenta Maeda and have DeLeon and Urias coming up soon. They have bigger problems on offense than they do in the pitching department. in all this you are right, but a great pitcher and closer, esp in the playoff where the starting 3 sp can negate a solid hitter. in addition, their window of opportunity is again closing to some players getting older, and the money already invested in the salary of the current team. they really have no choice, like the gaints and the cards but to go that extra distance and acquire key players.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) Which is incredibly annoying. And the sad part is the entire media, the Cubs front office, and even Heyward himself are trying to sell this idea. At the end of the day, he got a 3/$78M deal plus a fat-ass insurance policy in the event his production goes south. Kudos to Theo for coming up with a creative deal and landing his guy, but for the love of God stop selling it as something it's not. it is all pr .... edit it is all up to poster like the one on this side who will dig out the truth. ...
  4. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) It's a pretty interesting situation, for sure. Does anyone know how player grievances are usually settled? If found culpable, does the team pay a settlement? Does it factor into the players arbitration earnings? Do they secure some kind of language that promises the issue will be addressed in the next CBA? Inquiring minds want to know. something happen like this last season with harper of wash, but the org made some kind of agreement with his agent and all. i really can't remember what the language of that agreement was. but if the player and his agent wins, i think it will have to do with him not loosing time but gain those few weeks that he missed, meaning they maybe will treat it as he was with the team from the beginning. this is going to get really messy, but if this supersede the cba, a precedent will be made and any thing that the cba governs will be deem useless. now this may in actuality affect the new cba and its teeth with ref to dealing with rules. or will they just deal with players on entry level contracts, which bRoass been wanting to challenge
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) ABC, giving you news thats not really news. they are really going to milk this as much as they can.

  7. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) He should have been up opening day 2014. The cub sucked and if Russell was ready this year Bryant was ready day 1 2014. The money saved with this move was given to Heyward in a serious overpay yeah i can see that, but i would really like to know who this grievance will play out. i mean this is a move that his agent would love to challenge mlb with ...
  8. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) I think Cincinnati made most available a while ago. Tho nationals and cincy are in talks over phillips. Also you are talking about a 34 going to be 35 year old in 2016 with 2 years left on contract at about 27 million all together i did make one mistake, i didn't see that the trade discussion was with the nat'l. my bad on that. but in ref to you question, if the cost would not have been too much in a sense of the asking price for him. yeah. 2 yrs on a contract, he will help out a lot on what will be needed in the infield including defense and yes a great hitting skills with that. however if one is only looking at the salary, i can see how the FO may think this is too much of a price, meaning his salary. btw a nice counter.
  9. i know that trading with or trying to trade with cincy is near impossible. but today on mlbt, cincy is looking or just made avail Brandon Phillips ... if the cost is not too ridiculous, he might be a nice option.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 10:58 PM) He has already filed one. He doesn't need to wait until next year. maybe i should have explained it better, his agent already filed a grievance, so we should wait until a decision is handed down to see how that decision goes, which i am sure should be answered before the new season.
  11. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:41 AM) Prince had 1 bad year. Yes his contract is really bad, but the Rangers aren't dumping him for nothing. They are trying to win now and Prince will help them do that. Trading the farm for Hamels and then dumping Prince for our trash would be questionable at best. Nor should we be looking to absorb that contract either. Edit: The Tigers are still on the hook for $30M of Fielder's contract. So that means Texas has him at 5/$90M going forward. Which sounds about market value...he might even get more than that if he was a FA right now. So yeah, he's not getting traded for LaRoche. the main question here and it is mostly a rhetorical one, is Tx looking to do a salary dump. as it was said earlier, he was being made available to other teams. now if Tx looking to maybe get some mileage out of him and thinking that teams would pay for another hitter as they other teams are being rumored to?
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) "speaking of which, i feel that in Q system, they, the goalie, dman and forwards are really needed to make a successful team in this era and it all has a domino effect to winning. " So the ... team thank you for responding with this really insightful response. it really answers everything what many would like to know. btw, the team, then how come other teams do not have similar success??? oh i forgot the team is the answer.
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:41 AM) I just watched a video on IGN that seemed to stream fine, tried YouTube and still the same issues, in fact I got the blue box under the video asking me if I was experiencing delays, ect. ect. Browsing the internet on my laptop doesn't seem to have any issues, just media streaming at the moment. Again, it's not that I can't do it, just very slow. And I am using home wifi, yes. i hope you don't mind me interjecting. but it is your internet provider. double ck with a neighbor and see it they have the same problem. second, ck to see if a neighbor who doesn't have your setup, is having the same problem. and if i understand this it is watching media on youtube via wifi, see if you can get connected to the internet via hard wire see if that is the same problem
  14. QUOTE (2Dbill @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) My bad- I meant David Robertson. I still think there is some possibilities with trading Robertson Just today one of the sports headlines in the LA Times read: "The Dodgers need Help ,fast" all too true and i would have gone a different rt. but hey that is me.
  15. QUOTE (2Dbill @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 11:20 PM) Nope I'm not hawk 50. yeah i know. but i still like that you came out with both guns blazing. that post was good.
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Anyone think the cub clubhouse may get a little tense.....heyward is getting $26m a year and Bryant had to lose two years of service time in the name of the process.....at some point in some regard I think him missing two years of service time comes back to roost. lets wait till next season on this, his agent files a grievance with the mlb .....
  17. QUOTE (2Dbill @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) Desperate times lead to desperate actions. Three teams from last year’s playoffs have or are projected to experience significant losses: Kansas City, the Cardinals and the Dodgers .the Royals and the Cardinals lost in the area where the sox also have a need-the outfield(I’m forgetting about Lackey as I think Heyward was a much bigger loss). The Dodgers lost big with Greinke . In the last few days the LA sports sites were talking about how they would have to settle for Cueto. Well that didn’t turn out too good for them either. Their fall back plan seemed to be to create a lights out relief back end with Chapman and Jansen and that fell thru .I think the Dodgers are getting desperate. I think we should see what the return would be for David Robinson. I would trade Robinson and Thompson to the Dodgers for Puig and Kiki Hernandez and one of their 1st round comp picks. I would sign Cespedes to a 5 year 1,112,000 (25/25/22/20/20) deal with an opt-out after year 2. I would sign Alexi Ramirez to a 1year 6.5million deal. I would trade Avi Garcia and Robinson Leyer to the Rockies for prospects 3rd base Ryan Mc Mahon and catcher Dom Nunez. I would trade Adam Engel to the New York Mets for 1st base prospect Dominic Smith. I would trade Mica Johnson to the Pirates for outfield prospect Harold Ramirez. I know people are going to say that the Puig trade is ridiculous- the Dodgers would never agree to it. But given the circumstances I’m not so sure. They seem to be petrified to trade any of their prospects. It seems Friedman thinks he is still in Tampa Bay. This would allow them to continue their plan of having a strong back end to their bullpen ( the only option they really have left). Robinson is also signed for three more years while Jansen is only signed for 2016. If Puig is as much of a problem as the rumors say it would solve that problem as well. There have been 3 trades so far this season which were considered significant overpays(Arizona for Miller,Boston for Smith and Huston for Giles) why can’t the dodgers be the fourth? I know I’m rubbing it in to ask for a comp pick but they may be desperate. On the sox side I think the influence of Abreu, Cespedes and Ramirez would do wonders for Puig. I am not signing Ramirez just for Puig. The more I thought about it the more I liked Ramirez in a part time role this year. The bullpen would be weaker but the daily lineup would be much improved and the starting pitching would be unaffected. In addition the sox would have 4 picks among the first 50 in next year’s draft. And by trading Robinson you free up the money for Cespedes as the efforts to unload Laroche seem to be going nowhere. Fantasy? dang, if i didn't know better, i would swear that you are hawk50 from the blackhawk site i visit. btw, some of these ideas i like.
  18. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) I'm sorry, but this is ignorant. Are there scary people out there...? Absolutely. But, I can't worry about that every second of every day that my children are at school. I pay my taxes in Oak Park (hi Rock!) and I can not only see where those dollars go, they are tangible. Whether it's the Park District, streets and san, or the schools. We moved here because of the schools. We moved here because we can walk to all three. But most importantly, we chose to forge good relationships with the day care provider/nanny/head mistress/principal/teachers of every place they've been. We still see our nanny. We still see our in-home day care provider. We still see our Montessori head mistress and teacher. We email regularly with both of my son's teachers (Boy #1 is related to his class. Boy #2 has a sensory processing disorder, so we email/talk to his teacher more often). It's just like our parents said to us when we were younger, you take out what you put in. We are in a time now when, even if we are in a good district, we as parents make more time to help with our kids education. The American Dream, at least the way I interpret it is: my kids will do better than me and I will do whatever it takes to get them there. i am sorry for what i am going to say, but you really don't know what you are talking about. yeah, maybe in your life and the life of your family you are making a conscience effort to avoid things. i grew up of 25 on calf i went to grammar school, catholic at assumption, then i was shipped out for a 1 1/2 somewhere, i came back and later i went to harrison hs .... and i will tell you life in the inner cities, the schools life is a dangerous area. so this was in the late 60-thru the 70's. in the 80 different life for me. in h.s, the social groups ran the schools. there were always fights. right there on the blvd their was a gang fight and shooting right after school. so you not going to tell me what i know and to say it is ignorant. there is a hell of lot i can continue. believe you me, it was a scary time. btw, my problems all started b/c of racial dislike. first so called dark skin in a white area.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) I want nothing to do with Jay Bruce. Absolutely nothing. He's not good. i agree 100%.
  20. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) I wouldn't shoot myself for saying that. Obviously we are all to over excited from a tweet, but let's say somehow we did get Cespedes. If the Sox could sign Alexei for $5-7mm there's no way you can tell me we aren't a better team having him out there and having Saladino as your super-sub again. If you're signing Cespedes for $22mm there's no downside to Alexei at $7mm. IF we were able to do that... the only real "hole" for offense would be 2b and C -- and probably somewhat CF with Thompson. The only real holes on defense would be C. And the only real wholes in the staff would E. Johnson and depth in case someone went down. i am being blinded here and i will acknowledge it. seeing cepedes and alexei sign and being on the team. i am look at the popularity side of it. i have faith in the sox if they indeed do this, if not, ii can do another rant. but seriously, i want to compete with that f***ing sCrubs .... oh how i hate them. ref the missing pieces. if the worst case is alexei is sign, i will be very contented on sanchez at 2b as long the dh and another sp is look at to be improve.
  21. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) I like Cespedes as an option for the Sox. I don't like how he will only play LF though. I remember a lot of the issues that led to his departure from Oakland was his unwillingness to play other positions. He would make sense on a front loaded deal with an opt out. oh what an idea a front loaded contract..... i wonder how much??
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) Meh, I see more potential in Sanchez than Saladino honestly. same here. and i will give credit to saladino for fighting away to make it.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) Where would Sanchez go in this scenario? backup with a lot of at bats and or trade ....
  24. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) I really don't see Freese as a match for them at this point. Might as well just role with Lawrie for half the price and keep Sanchez at 2B. Atleast the defense will be solid. that is an option, one way or another, if it is not now, it has to be done next yr, the sox will need to address that 3b postion.
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) I agree with this. I would love to have both Abreu and Cespedes not only in our lineup but both as spokespeople when they go to Cuba. Cespedes is a hitter and brings a plus glove to our outfield. He also doesn't cost a pick and has played and been successful in the AL. I'll take either him or Upton obviously but the more I think about it the more I like Signing Cespedes and if we had the money Murphy. Otherwise an addition of Cespedes and another IF would go a long way to making us in the conversation as competitors. i am also looking at the potential growth of the white sox as a team in the popularity side. next yr the other team is going to run over the sox if the sox doesn't do something to stop it ..... or at least slow it down.
