  1. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) It's a marketing ploy. Not really good wine. A good year for the Beaujolais Nouveau makes it drinkable alcoholic cherry koolaid. Hmmm, maybe I should have been more accurate in my representation of how me + wine + friends goes down. Lots of cheap wine is downed and french accents are adopted and then we go to sleep. I do like good wine, but usually have a hell of a good time with the cheapies stuff. Anyway, one of my dear friends got me turned onto Bordeaux, and damn, I get a major hankering for that occassionally. I miss Europe, good wine and *cheap*. Mmmmm. And thanks Flaxx, I'm keeping my eye out for it.

    Christmas Gift Idea..

    QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Jim.. you gave me like 4 great ideas the past 2 years.. what's up slacker? Did you seen the thread about the wine? (Soxy makes "drinky-drinky" gesture and noise.)
  4. Oooooh, I've never heard of it, but I am a sucker for good wine. Yum. I'll keep an eye peeled (do NOT post the chien d'andalu or however it's spelled pick, though, please!), do you know how much it usually runs?
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Let's ALL take a step back and ask ourselves this question. Why or how is every single intelligence agency in the world is this wrong? Do you think that Iraq really had the weapons and they just got moved? Naaaaaah. Couldn't be. BUSH f***ING LIED. HANG HIS ASS. So wait, are you saying that at the time of our invasion of Iraq that they had wmd? I'm just trying to understand here.
  6. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) You have explained to them how in any future ethanol tolerance studies, those undergrad lab assistants will have unsupervised access ONLY to the storage areas with the Sani-Chips and Lab Blox, right? They must realize that those irregularities could have happened anywhere. I mean, you’ve tightened up your protocols and want to move forward, so why can’t they? I'd laugh, but one of my friends is actually writing a pre-doc grant for ethanol research. And let me say, human research is so much easier. And research that doesn't involve controlled substances. But I do know of a lab where a bunch of cocaine, oops, went missing.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) Soxy, nice screen name change. Thanks! It's been changed for, like, a week! But yeah, I like it.
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) NSF grants = teh rOxOrz the NSF grant proposal process = teh Sux duly noted and agree. Actually, doubly duly noted and agree. Usually I love the rigidity and order in the scientific process, but this stuff is just nitpicky and anal. . . Although, we're writing drafts and I would rather do an NIH one, since that's usually how we get funded. . .

    Christmas Gift Idea..

    I usually get my dad some kind of weird sports memorabilia. He loves baseball caps, and after this Christmas I'll have gotten him a hat from all of the Canadian Football league teams. Next I think I'll either try and find Rugby hats or maybe soccer. Or maybe that women's softball league. It's an interesting gift idea, he likes it, and they're generally good conversation starters.
  11. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) I can't relate to anyone being blind or deaf. But how would she know who to blame? I don't know how blind and deaf people learn either, I'm sure there's a way. Ummmm, Braille? Signing in hands? Surely you've seen/read/heard of Helen Keller and/or The Miracle Worker.
  12. The Roller dome. Horrible place to try and watch a game. Just crappy. Plus it has the swastika.
  13. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) Ants and eyeballs. Un Chien Andalou anybody? [/obscure ref] DAMMIT! Stop! That movie still gives me nightmares and it's been 3 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! f***ing piece of s*** surrealists. . .
  14. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) We all need ritalin. i know a guy. . .
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Not originally. Mercy's initial post only put Julie in the icon category, and not in the team clubhouse. Which is the same designation I would have given. But I'm not on the team, despite owning the anniversary TOSM set. I own Bette Midler albums as well. . . It's okay, I have indigo girls cds, ani difranco, tori amos. And I've seen ani in concert.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) I think that's why kyyle is calling foul... she isn't. I thought she was, not, obviously, to the Bette Midler level, but I think she still is a gay icon.
  17. About half of my female friends in college were lesbians--does that count? And, by the way, I love Julie Andrews. I think she's awesome. I am all for Julie Andrews day.
  18. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) Conservatives, especially the Christian wing, have a real problem with the fact that it seems to be ok to bash Christians. Its ok to ridicule Christians about their faith, ok to ridicule those who preach family values and most of all its ok to ridicule those who think that certain things ( kids having kids, parents killing their unborn children, music that denigrates women while promoting violence against cops AND women, drug abuse.....etc...etc ) are wrong and should not be tolerated. Don't get me wrong. I believe that those who believe in Old Testament fire and brimstone for "sinners" are an embarassment and constitute a small percentage of people of faith. However, the question that remains unanswered by the left is: Why is it that in this tolerance obsessed society we live in that there seems to be no tolerance for people who hold traditional values dear? I actually have several friends that are really conservative Christians. No pre-marital sex, no swearing, church every Sunday, volunteer, etc. And they TRULY TRULY TRULY act with love and Christian compassion to their neighbors. They rarely if ever get any guff from the "lefties." Who gets the guff? The "sinless" ones that throw the first stone. The ones would would rather tell you that you're going to hell before turning the other cheek. Also, who here has ripped on SS2k5 for his religious beliefs? Or mreye for being Catholic? I'm pretty religious and I work in academia and I am NEVER taunted or mocked for it. Why? Because I am respectful of other people's beliefs, just liek the guys I mentioned early. And they shall know we are Christians by our love. . .
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) And btw, I am not trying to defend the molestation quote, but it depending on the age of the author, would help to substantiate my point. 29. I would say at that point you should know better. On some level I find it refreshing that people have led such charmed and sheltered lives that they find these topics humorous. On another level it makes me sick. Mostly the latter level though.
  20. Can you put music from musicmatch onto an ipod? Or do you have to go through iTunes?
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) With all due respect to Steff and Soxy, there are probably more than a few guys here who are thinking at 15, sex with a willing female would have been pretty cool. Whether that is societal norms, or real differences in males vs. females, I don't know. I do know at 15 I was sexually active and really would have though an older woman was cool. Now, as an adult, I see the abuse and how it would effect a kid. I'm not sure at what point between 15 and 44 I came to realize that. I think there's something fundamentally different from what you said, and that I can kind of see the point in and the truth in and saying "Man, I never got molested when I was 15. Lucky kid." Did I have a huge crush on one of my teacher's in high school--yeah. He was hot. But, most adults are smart enough to realize you don't f*** children (and, yes, I do think of 15 year olds as children). That's why we're in a position of power--because we can make judgements that positively affect and reflect the best outcomes for children. Saying someone's "lucky" for being molested is just asinine. That statement is ignorant, sick, offensive, callous, and I can't even go on.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Short and sweet. why mince words?
