QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Ok then... well. um. *awkward pause* so ummm. how about that local sports team? And that weather... ummm... weathery enough for you? Okay, looked a little further into it, and I'll be damned. Some of that made ME blush, and well, yeah. . . Weather, yep, it sure is, uh, um, I think I left my iron on, I gotta go. . .

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) Again, I'd like to direct you to the wonderful world of the internet... not that I would know or anything... but I'd disagree - at least those that seem to have a current interest in the matter. Again not that I would know or anything.... I just briefly looked at the first couple sites and they seemed more female orientated.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) Not to cheapen the debate or anything.... Ummm Tex, search chastity belts on google and see what happens. There are chastity belts. Not that I've been to these sites or have entirely too much time on my hands lately to surf the internet or anything.... I think the point he was making more was, they could be a Ralph de Bricassart and unless they totally flaunted it, they probably couldn't be caught. And, to continue my gender based b****ing, why are female chastity belts so much more common? Men seem to be the ones with more problems keeping it in the pants, so why make ladies where the uncomfortable garments more?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) It's nearly impossible for a Christian lay person to abstain from sex before marriage. It's foolish to believe free condoms is going to help the situation. Increasing the appetite, increases the obsession. Increasing the obsession increases the desire of wanting to live dangerously. This is true for any drug of pleasure. Sex is no different. On your first point, I disagree. If you want to be celibate it's very easy to remain so. The real question here is: how many Christian lay people WANT to be celibate? On your second point, I'm just flat out confused. Could you elaborate a little there please. I'm not sure exactly what you're point is.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) correct, pedophiles and homosexuals are not the same...I still say that something is wrong with celibacy....and that individuals that are attracted to kids or people who feel their own homosexuality is bad, have turned to priesthood as a solution to suppressing their feelings. There are too many examples of this happening among priests. I have never seen any significant (and reliably done) work on the this. If you have any actual statistic basis for your statement, I would love to see it. Because I highly doubt that is the reason people join the priesthood. I'm sure there are the minute numbers that actually join for those reason, but I doubt that happens any more than with teachers, counselors, etc. . . But, I will change my tune if you can provide me with facts instead of antedotal comments and observations.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) I think there is something inherently wrong with wanting to be a priest. Suppressing the sexual side of one-self is not normal. I think a lot of these guys grew up feeling homosexual urges, and then went into the church feeling they would just become celibate. And then all this s*** happens. Obviously some of these offenses are against women, but it seems like a majority are against young boys. I disagree entirely. First, pedophiles and homosexuals are NOT the same thing. Gay men are NOT attracted to children, they're attracted to other gay men. They're no more attracted to little boys than you probably are to little girls. Second, some people feel the call to priesthood and want to make a sacrifice to God and their gift and sacrifice is celibacy. I don't agree with a celibate priesthood, but I believe that to most priests it is a joyful sacrifice to the Lord.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) how about double tolls is you dont have one? If thats not a reason, then I dont know what is. I live in NY. I can deal with the double tolls the twice a year I go back to Chicago.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) We should also balance the 50 year history with societies handling of sex crimes. Rape victims were routinely discredited, their clothes, their mannerisms, suggestions that they "wanted it". Churches weren't the only institutions that swept these things under the rug. I believe we have to address the full range of the problem, not just think we can dump it all on one doorstep. Amen. s***, go back to the biblical rules of dealing with a rape. This stuff has been happening for way more than 50 years, it's just that in the last 50 years people have started to listen and believe.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) I'm not certain what I would do if faced with that choice. Take a pile of cash and deal with it, or forgo the cash, take time off of work, face testifying about something that would be very embarrasing, be challenged about my statements, etc. I wouldn't be able to testify, no way at least not in an open court room. Sexual assault is humiliating enough, but I can't imagine how horrible that must be--to testify against a "man of God." But they don't need the victim's permission to go ahead with it. Once a case has been opened or filed, it's no longer about the victim--it's the State vs, which has its upsides and downsides. Fortunately, I would get dismissed from a jury on this case pretty damn quick. I don't think I could take the cash either. You can't buy what assholes like that take away. The only way anyone wins in these cases is that the perp is taken away from that parish (and hopefully all other's) children.

Today is the most beautiful fall day. It's so lovely. It makes me feel all happy.

Cool! When Indiana and Ohio get in on the action I'll totally get one. Otherwise I don't see the point.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) Way I look at it is you can curse under your breath or, if you have the means, you can take advantage of the situation and profit from it. If you have disposible income, yep you sure can. For the rest of us, it's a really nice f*** off.

Okay this was also funny. And she used math--so it must be true!!!!! I had recently suggested that the Sucking Force operating on the b**** Sox was greater than the one operating on us. That is not true. Math has never been Batgirl's strong suit. I think I've got it worked out into a simple equation. Will may need to help me out here, but I think I'm correct: If "x" is the Twins Sucking Force and "y" is the b**** Sox Sucking Force and "K" is a Johan Santana start, then you get: x+K

Bat-girl today was also hilarious. I would love to hang out with her, I think we'd get along. . . And bonus for quoting my favorite Yeats poem yesterday!!!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) I'm just listening to Jones' version wishing someone special to me was here. Come on now Tex, who needs someone special when you can dance around and sing loudly and off key in your underwear?
