Spank.. and be banned.
I believe the phrase my parents like to use for that is, "picking your teeth off the floor." I can't imagine doing a tenth of some of the stuff kids do and get away with now...

Personality Type...
Your Personality Type You are a 'mover' who likes to focus on the 'here and now' rather than the past or future. You appreciate the present moment. You are a good listener and people notice that. Your Motto "Just do it!" You prefer 'doing' rather than thinking and analyzing. How You Work best You learn fastest when you can pick up items and actually see and touch them, rather than just read about them. When working on a computer it would be best for you to print out your work and hold it in your hands. Your brain becomes active when your hands are in motion. Interesting....

parents go on strike
The article says the daughter started doing her own laundry--so that sounds like it's being marginally effective at least....

Travel Tips
Cutting it close--especially in the winter weather.....Plus, are you looking at leaving time or boarding time? If it leaves at 7 you aren't allowing yourself much time to cross the huge detroit airport if it's running late....

Wrath of the Jocks
Ah, the joy of high school jocks. If it's any consolation to you--most of them will end up not playing in college or becoming the worst of all college existance: the D3 athelete who thinks he's D1. They're easier to avoid/ignore/make fun of in college. And hey, with brains the brain that kid appears to have just think of his *amazing* potential in life....Oh wait.....

Left handers... mensa schizophreniacs..??
We talked about some of this in a neuropsych class I took. It was kind of cool--I'm right handed, but not purely right handed because I do some things with my left. If you want to find your Handedness on a scale it's kind of fun--I'm a 68.7. Edinburgh Handedness Inventory

Interesting twist on stem cells...
IMO the reason this wasn't all over the news is because of two things they had mentioned previously: 1.) No replication 2.) No peer review. If it goes through those two rigorous processes then it should be covered. Until then it is antedotal evidence....

Hi People...
No complaints--presenting the data and analysis I conducted this term tomorrow. Yikes. Although, I must add, the data is gorgeous and the stats almost made me weep with joy. No master's thesis yet, but hopefully I'll have it together before Christmas--then I can get jumping on that running next january.

What do you do when....
That would really confuse my mom--for the past four years all she's heard me talk about is how much I dislike Bush!

What do you do when....
So, I just got off the phone with my parents who are madly attempting to find new and creative ways to make me embarressed or put in humiliating situations. The latest one I'm not entirely sure how to deal with. I broke up with my looong term boyfriend this past Spring--and I'm enjoying being single now and adjusting to a new part of the country. After 3.5 years of dating it was nice. Sadly, my parents are being odd and weird about setting me up now (keep in mind I'm 22). So, for the one week of the year when I'll be home uninterrupted my parents have been in cahoots with some friends of theirs to try and set up up with a kid I knew growing up. Obviously this is humiliating because 1.) I am not that pathetic 2.) I really like being single 3.) I am not that pathetic. So, what's the best way to deal with their meddling? I wouldn't mind seeing this guy again (partially for very shallow reasons, partially because he was a nice guy)--but I'm really not feeling up to a blind date arranged by my parents. I've told them not to do it, but I have a feeling they've already made the call judging by their compulsive calling to ask if anyone's called me. Advice?

Smarty Pants Kids Cool stuff, but seriously, where does a high school or a student come up with the $$$$ to do this kind of research? Calif. Teen Wins H.S. Science Competition WASHINGTON - A 17-year-old California boy won a premier high school science competition Monday for inventing a device that converts ocean wave energy into electricity. Aaron Goldin, a senior at San Dieguito High School Academy in Encinitas, Calif., won a $100,000 college scholarship, the top individual prize in the Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science and Technology. Goldin, who created a gyroscope that extracts power from ocean waves, began by developing prototypes using a tape recorder, an answering machine and household appliances as parts. "He has taken an innovative application of gyroscopic principles and turned it into a reality, demonstrating great independence and originality," said judge Richard Miles, a professor at Princeton University's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Lucie Guo and Xianlin Li, both 17-year-old seniors at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, shared the $100,000 top prize in the team category. They identified biomarkers that could help earlier detection and treatment of breast cancer. The Siemens Foundation, founded in 1998, aims to increase access to higher education among gifted students studying math, science and technology. The foundation distributes more than $1 million annually in scholarships, grants and awards. Eighteen students competed in the national finals — six individuals and six teams. All won scholarships ranging from $50,000 to $10,000. Team members share awards. ___ On the Net: Siemens Foundation: http://www.siemens-foundation.org
