    War on Terror Question

Hm, that's a good question. To be wholly honest I do not feel that the current American foreign relations policy (if we have one) is conducive to helping out our allies who might be endangered from their relationship with us (or just being attacked for the sake of being attacked). When the train in Spain was bombed (albeit by national terrorists) the US didn't do much--and I don't contemplate us even thinking of sending troops. And even though Russia wasn't "with us" we didn't do much when they had that school hostage situation. I understand that those are domestic home-grown terrorists in most cases--but even we in America have seen how much damage can be done by our home-grown fanatics....But I feel like other than the "war on terror" we've pretty much taken an isolationist stance on most things. To be honest, I really don't think we would send troops. We might, however, add the country that attacked to the "axis of evil."
  2. The Incredibles: Super cute movie. Definitely worth my $5...It seemed to be a lot more action based than past Pixar offerings--but a very cool family flick. Great soundtrack, good voices, and just nice way to spend an evening.
  3. Speaking of which, I'm heading out in a few minutes to see The Incredibles--I'm super excited!
  4. I live in lovely Vestal New York (an hours south of Syracuse)--I was totally shocked by the machine too. I never would have thought a dinosaur like that would be in current use....
  5. Mine was this huge machine and you flip switches to pick who you want. It was really big and cumbersome and looked ancient.
  6. When I was a sophomore in college I was jumping into an elevator basically just being a dumbass. I fell and went to the hospital with a grapefruit sized ankle. When the doctor came in with my X-Ray he asked me when I broke my ankle last time--I said never. It turns out unbeknownst to be I once broke my ankle, walked around on it, and then it reset itself wrong--so that sucks. But it wasn't broken that time--but that is the only broken bone I know of (now at least)...
  7. And plenty of religious people would have voted against it as well.
  8. Right, I'm not saying make divorce illegal. I'm just saying that in the Bible divorce get a lot more bad press than homosexual marriage--and if this attack on gay marriage was PURELY bible based then divorce would get coverage too. I'm saying that there is something else fueling this bad precedent we set than pure biblical religion...
  9. How absolutely silly. Yes, after the election I joked about moving out of the country (joked)--but I hate that knee jerk--I don't agree so I'm leaving crap. So stupid. Even if you think bush will make America go to hell in a handbasket wouldn't it be better to stay and fight for what you value and try to help ameliorate the country? People that show their opinion by walking away and not working for change are just cowards who don't want to be the ones that have to put their ideals into action.... /end tirade.
  10. So, I was avoiding all semblance of work this morning when I stumbled on this website. I'm not totally sure I buy it, but interesting none-the-less. Sorry if it's already been posted.... Smart States
  11. I was more upset when a couple of rats from the colonies got loose a few weeks ago. I just thought a chemical spill was kind of comical--I mean 200 gallons of water, how the hell does that happen? That's wild! I just hope it doesn't smell tomorrow....

    Beer Quiz!

Beer Quiz! Oddly it matched me with my 2 favorite (cheaper) beers: Killian's Red and Yuengling. Awesome.
  13. I understand the connotations of marriage as social and legal. But I remain, in my beliefs at least, that marriage IS a religious institution--if only in its roots. As such I think that it would be far better to have a civil type of union that the government recognizes (legal) and a marriage that is more of a social/religious thing. I know this has been suggested here before and I really liked it--maybe it was SS2K??? I'm getting old, I'm afraid, and my brain is rotting.
  14. That's why I don't understand the governmental bruhaha re:gay marriage. Marriage is a religious institution, so let the churches deal with it....Honestly, this aspect of the elections disturbed me waaaaaaaaay more than anything else (other than the fact that someone other than Alan Keyes voted for Alan Keyes...). And, Jesus talk a lot about divorce and how wrong he thinks it is. So, why isn't that the focus of stuff ruining the "sanctity of marriage" on something Jesus was really vocal about? So hypocritical and fear based...
  15. So, today after our departmental meeting I returned to my lab when all of a sudden this undergraduate comes SPRINTING down the hallway and says it's raining orange water in the lab she works in. I go in to check it out and send her to get the real faculty person there who works with it. It was seriously gushing down and out of the ceiling. So, I call the chair and administrator of the department. Who in turn calls the Hazardous Waste Material people. Apparently a pipe burst in the lab above this one and about 200 gallons of water (how they figured this out I do not know) came down through the ceiling and all over this lab. Worse, the water somehow got mixed with Potassium Chloride--so the police, fire and haz mat people had to caution off the entire area and had crazy masks on and stuff.... What a friggin day....
  16. I vote with my religious conscious. I go every week to service and I wouldn't support one of these amendments. I resent the painting of Christians as evangelicals only--my family is very religious and all voted for Kerry--as did most of my friends that entered into the ministry or Lutheran or Catholic volunteer corps. I am heartbroken by these votes. I never, ever, ever thought that laws and constitutions would again be used to take away people's rights and priviliges....
  17. Mr Senator, Major respect to you. Mr President, let's make us one nation again, please.
  18. But as Wino said in another thread, the popular vote alone should have made Kerry concede. I abhor the electoral college. If Kerry would have won that but lost the popular I would have been upset as well. The people spoke and although I disagree, that's what democracy means.
  19. I also split my ticket.
  20. Feel better? But I think that the mudslinging is definitely coming from both sides. I've never felt so repulsed by the entire political election process as I have in the past few weeks. I certainly want republics to vote (as a staunch liberal) because if they don't it's not democracy. Overall, I think that this ridiculous "evil this" "evil that" crap that has been floating around this election is really pathetic.
  21. Um, I would say yes: USAF_11F4H Posted on: Nov 1 2004, 11:46 AM Replies: 81 Views: 782 We here in the military will be pulling almost uni-laterally in one direction for our Commander in Chief....
  22. I understand. Driving to the Polls I was going to vote Socialist because I like, respect, and agree with those candidates--but alas, they weren't there. So I voted for a candidate I don't feel as confident in. I think those campaigns like Voice your Choice as so unaptly named. I'm not voicing MY choice--I'm voicing a preference for one of the limited choices I had laid out for me. Not as liberating and wonderful as it should be. After this election I definitely think there should be more than 2 parties--give people more of a real choice...Yeah, this voting was defiitely a let down. It's sort of like the first time you ever have sex. You spend a long time waiting for it and thinking how great it is going to be--then poof! It's over in like 5 seconds and you think, wow, is this really all there is. Blech.

    Happy BDAY

Happy Birthday! Don't burst an eye blood vessel!
  24. I read about that today. Kind of makes you think twice about wishing for something like that (not having to feel pain)....
