Ballpark Etiquette
I'm definitely on the don't make me get up in the middle of an inning--I like sitting on the end but HATE having to get up and missing pitches. Also, don't stand right at the railing while waiting to get to your seats. I asked one girl to move Saturday because I couldn't see Big Frank batting and she yelled at ME because she was just deciding where to sit. :headshake I'm also not a big fan of irritating drunks at the ball park--but I understand it's a part of the game. I just prefer to watch the game.... And finally: watch your dang kids! I saw so many kids running around this weekend and at other games it was scary. There's the obvious stranger danger stuff--but also kids don't know to watch for balls so keep them with you and near you...

Just got home from Twins Series
I was really shocked by the mass exodus of fans on Friday and especially Sunday. Seriously da Dome on Sunday at least 2/3 of people left by the end of the 8th...I almost (almost) felt bad for the Twins players. My favorite moment was when the Twinkies were down 11 yesterday and they were all doing hte wave (?). After a while Carlos does this weird like dance thing making fun of the fans that were doing the wave after they had been taunting him. It was so funny me and my friends almost peed our pants laughing.

Mad about Gas Price
Another reason to hate SUV (from todays' Trib): Fueling debate What’s to blame for high gas prices? Look in your driveway KRT Published May 24, 2004 DETROIT -- Sorry folks: We're at least partly to blame for the ongoing pain at the gas pump. Like it or not, we're burning more gas than ever before. Consumption has jumped nearly 24 percent since 1990. And the government says we're on track to burn another 48 percent by 2025. Sure, there are more vehicles on the road. Between 1990 and 2001, the number of registered vehicles grew about 22 percent, according to the federal government. And the miles those vehicles traveled jumped 29 percent. But the biggest reason consumption has risen so sharply is parked in many of our driveways: The number of light trucks, especially SUVs, has spiked in the past several years, growing about 74 percent between 1990 and 2001. And since these vehicles consume more gas than passenger cars, they're likely responsible for the record level of fuel use, experts say. The period between 1980 and 1990 showed only a 5 percent increase in fuel consumption compared with a 23.5 percent increase between 1990 and 2003. In 1990, light trucks made up about a quarter of the nation's fleet, compared with 37 percent in 2001, the last year for which government figures are available. Since these vehicles get fewer miles to the gallon than cars, they're driving up the amount of fuel we use. That use is straining already tight gas supplies. Experts say prices ultimately will move higher if things don't change. "People enjoy bigger cars and SUVs and then scream bloody murder when there are higher gas prices,'' said Fadel Gheit, an oil analyst with Oppenheimer & Co. "Ultimately we will pay the price.'' Gas inventories are about 6 percent below what they were a year ago. Fuel consumption is so high that the oil refineries are barely keeping up with demand, experts say. On a more positive note Sunday, cnn.com reported that Saudi Arabia has agreed to increase its oil output starting next month by 28 percent and is "prepared" to increase output to its capacity of 10.5 million barrels per day, U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said Sunday after meeting with the Saudi oil minister. That likely won't cut the price of gas by more than a dime a gallon, some experts say, and we're burning gas at a record pace largely because we're dumping cars for trucks. More consumers have opted for SUVs and light trucks because they're big, they hold a lot of stuff and they can carry more people. The rub is that many of them don't go far on a gallon of gasoline. The Ford Explorer, the nation's most popular SUV, barely gets 20 miles per gallon on the highway, compared with 30 m.p.g. for a Ford Focus, a small passenger car. Some experts aren't convinced that light trucks are moving prices higher. Ron Planting, an economist with the American Petroleum Institute, said worldwide demand for crude oil, especially in Asia, is influencing prices a lot more than SUVs. Experts predict gas prices will continue to be high. "People are going to want more oil, and inventories are going to be stressed to the limits," AAA Michigan spokesman Jim Rink said. "This isn't going to go away any time soon."

Thoughts on the Minnesota series as a whole.
Witesoxfan, where were you sitting? I agree--I was way happy with the series. But the defense left a lot to be a desired. Hopefully they can step that up. That was the most painful thing of the games I went to--when Jon wasn't pitching well I just wanted the defense to help him out... But I feel sooooooo much better about our team after seeing them play (and I think I saw just about everyone). White Sox

5/23/04 - Sox @ Minnesota Game Thread
Best game ever. And after the 4th inning no one was harressing me or fellow Soxites. I got to see 2 batting practices today... Although, the fielding was disappointing (said nicely)--but wow, what a game! Even my roommate who abhors baseball was really excited and into it...Go go you white sox!

Politte
The ugliest thing about this game for me was not The Moose and Morneau's homers--it was Cliff Politte. It looked to me like he gave up long before the inning was over...

The Official Send Cotts Back to AAA Thread
This thread is dumb. I was at the game and yes, I was really sad for Cotts--but I would say put him back in the bullpen--he's a damn fine pitcher. And it looks like he just got some nerves or something this time. He'll be fine he just needs a little while in the pen. Some people. :headshake

More heated than even SLAP
That's me. Let me just say (and I know this is in the wrong board) that I am so excited to see the boys this weekend! Tonight great seats too: 19 rows up right at 3rd base. HURRAY! HURRAY! HURRAY! I don't know if I've ever had nice seats like that for a Sox game. Here's hoping Gload plays tonight. Okay, I'm done. GO SOX!

Republican National Convention Agenda
I understand your point--discussion is key on these issues and shutting down dialogue will help no one. But I have to ask, why are feminists nazis, I must have skipped over that part in my WWII class....

Stupid radical feminists wanting equal pay for equal work, health care, paternity time off after a birth. They'll be the downfall of our country for sure.

A Good Death
The situation they offered included a 1 month stay in an ICU--that's not a high quality of life. If it was me out enjoying life no. But if it was me stuck in an ICU with my fam coming everday to cry yes. No need to make people grieve twice.

Listening to Q101 yesterday
Or if you condemn gay marriage because of the bible you should follow everything eles the bible commands. It's a double edged sword. And I would also argue that when the Bible was written there as no sense of sexual orientation--most of the acts described (especially in Paul) pertain to acts that were ritualistic for other "heathen" religions. Essentially, sexual orientation is a new concept that is only recently accepted--before there were only homosexual acts. And if you look at the OT most of those "gay acts" were committed by straight men with the intention of shaming others--or denying hospitality. So, if you ignore the cultural context and go simply by the words of the bible we need to follow ALL of it. If we follow the Old Testament then we need to stop where poly-cotton blends, marry rape victims to their perps, not masturbate (males only), kill little boys that taunt elders (preferably with bear maulling), offer female goats as our repentence offering. And if I was systematically denied 1,038 rights simply for who I am, you can bet I would protest, whine, complain, etc. Let's promote stability, monogomy and loving marriage to ALL of God's creation.
