QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) Can someone console me on Prop A passing. It won't last forever.

Ugh. This is so incredibly disappointing. Should never ever ever be an issue that is legislated. This is government sponsored discrimination, and I am sick thinking about it.

Honest opinion: Think hard about if you want a terminal masters in Clinical/counseling Psych. My general understanding is that the market is rather flooded with those degrees and PsyD's and PhD's. I personally know a few unemployed clinicians (and this is from a program that has won national training awards repeatedly). So, think about that, and if you're considering going for that, you may want to think about going whole hog and doing a full PhD program.

Or Jewish. That actually may be my best guess.

I'm going with Asian or Latino. Doubtful it will be a woman.

After voting I got into my car and guess what was playing on the radio? Yep, "Don't stop believin'" That was when I knew Obama would win. That song will never lie to a Sox fan.

First time I got misty eyed tonight was reading excerpts from McCain's concession. Classy.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) Al Franken up by 15K votes in MN. Looks like the Republicans will keep MS. Landrieu in a tough race, only winning by 15K votes. Only vulnerable Dem in the Senate at this point. Just talked to a friend in MN and she said they were reporting Franken is up by only about 600 now.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) They should beam up Dean Stockwell for a Quantum Leap omage! God help me, but I laughed for about 5 minutes.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) My machine was on its last leg. They are scheduled to be replaced in NY state next year. When I voted last year my blue-hair said we were getting them for this election, but apparently I was misinformed. I don't care I kind of like the lever pulling contraption.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) CNN calls WV for McCain, though it looks like a closer race than you might have thought. One of my bff's is from WV, and she said WV used to be pretty democratic--lots of union support and support for the working poor. She said that the democrats just kind of gave up on her state after 2000 and that if they focused more there the state would be competitive.

Please please please no Michelle Bachman or Norm Coleman.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) Cynthia McKinney takes it. I was thisclose to voting for her. Seriously. But then I remembered she's crazy, and that I don't want to vote for a crazy person. Even if I do love me some Green Party.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) 50 minute wait. 40 year old Machine ballots. 20 minute wait, very old (probably more than 40) machine that makes a very reassuring DING! when you pull the lever. There was a very concerned older lady about if her vote might get lost. Other than that, no issue.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) There are 39 other questions. And it was kind of fun.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) 48%. Not too bad for a non - American I'd say. Definitely, still (well) above chance.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) Do you know if she meant Al-Jazeera English or Arabic? I listened to an NPR interview with the head of Al Jazeera and they compared the same reports from AJE and AJ, and they were pretty different in terms of language and framing. AJE is recruiting some good talent. English.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) I got a 73% on this quiz. 70%. I think this means I am something of a news junkie. . .

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) I was actually pretty disappointed that I only had three decisions to make. I voted GOP across the board but aside from president there were only two other contested seats. Amazingly, there were only three Dems running (two were incumbents) and probably 5 or 6 republicans unopposed. A congressman and county executive were the two I voted out. Kind of curious as to why so many offices were unopposed this election Are you in Acuari or Hinchey's district? I moved to U-E, and was surprised by how Italian my ballot was. I voted mostly Dem. Republican on a few local offices. I never vote in uncontested races.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:19 AM) I knew what I was getting into when I was linked there but I was still shocked. I frankly don't care if it's equivocated on the other side, it was still pretty awful. I'll say this for comments on news sites though, I was shocked to see how high the political discourse was on Al Jazeera English. They have stories where they bring up a topic and say "what do you think" and, I think a lot of their readers are British so it's slanted like that (Al Jazeera English recruits many of their writers from the BBC). It was interesting nonetheless. Albeit Al Jazeera English operates substantially different than the arabic language. Actually, a while ago I was talking with a woman who was working for the gov't in Afghanistan and I asked her what news agency got it the "most right." She said, you're going to laugh, but Al-Jazeera with BBC a close second.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Technically, 329 is not a blowout by historical standards. Between 1944-1996, only Carter in '76, Nixon in '68, Kennedy in '60 and Truman in '48 have won the presidency with LESS than 329 electoral votes. And, only carter in '76 finished with less than 300. So, since 1944, most elections have been significant electoral college margins. 2000 and 2004 seem to be against the historical trend. If Obama gets 329, it's a blowout. That's what he said. He said that 329 isn't a landslide.

GOP - Obama Win Could Lead To Second Holocaust

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) And I think you are probably wrong on the 'support' for GWB. Unfortunately, most people I know were once again voting for the lesser of two evils, not for the choice they really wanted. I have defended GWB on some things in the past because I was tired of seeing him constantly attacked. I didn't defend him in everything, because there is alot I didn't and don't like. I just thought Kerry would have been worse. I am not saying nobody wanted GWB, I just think most people DIDN'T want Kerry. Or Gore. I'm just saying on this website that's what it's like. I'm not going to generalize to the real world because, frankly, I don't come into tons of contact with republicans any more. But I remember tons of 4 more years!!!! threads around here. And easily as much swiftboating of Kerry as there was of negative stuff about McCain. Again, when people feel like they're going to win they get annoying fast. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) I think Obama by 4. You can sense the tightening but in the end Obama's GOTV ground game is so superior to McCain's right now it will be the difference. Homeslice, He means who he personally (PA4Life) will be voting for, not which way the state will turn. And I'm thinking he'll go McCain.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Except, most Republicans don't like GWB. Kerry was just that bad, IMO. They don't like him now. But I seem to remember him being rather popular around these parts in 2004. I also think it's interesting that this election has been a reversal of a lot of 2004. In 2004, there were a lot of Republicans posting in the democrat thread stirring stuff up. In 2008, the opposite is true. People get really annoying when they're winning, and get awful sensitive when they're not. -

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) YES! Here's the thing--I agree when SS2K5 says it--he's been good about staying above the fray in here. But you are just as bad as the Obamafanboys around here. You mock the beliefs of the more liberal posters on here who aren't Obama fanboys (or girls), so I feel for some of the more respectful Republican posters who are very respectful. But when half of your posts are baiting or over the top reactionary, please don't expect sympathy.
