Kap, even if you make make valid points cloaked in the rhetoric you use, no one will take you seriously or try to have an intelligent thought out debate with you. Do both sides do it? Yep. But if you take the tactics that you're always complaining about and calling horrible--why should anyone take you seriously? You're smarter than the rhetoric you use in here.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) Why are you surprised that people in the Democratic party are upset by the commutation? Do you have a materially better argument than, "It's always different"? Nope. Why make a reasoned argument when you can just scream hyberboles at people who disagree?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) I wish I got to enjoy it a little more. I found PA still sells Labatts Candian Ale, which is the 50-50's which are sold up there, relabled for sale in the good old USofA. I had a bunch of those before I tore into the Chimay. Luckily I do have another bottle to enjoy. I have seen Chimay in this area--Trader Joe's usually carries it. So, the next bottle doesn't have to be your last.

I was there 2 summers ago. It was very cool. The town was really nice and quaint, and the battlefield was very haunting. I only spent an afternoon there, but it was very cool.

Saw "Fracture" last night at the dollar theatre. It was average. Good acting and an interesting story--but it was sooooo predictible. But if you're looking for an interesting well plotted movie without much surprise, I would recommend it.

Tank "possibly" got a DUI in Arizona
Soxy replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) I'm not sure if it's been changed, but Washington, DC has a zero-tolerance DUI policy. That's right, if you blow a .01, you can be charged with DUI. MADD has gone from an anti-drunken driving organization to a neo-prohibitionist group. Their next step will be a .04 limit, passed in the same extortionist manner as nationwide .08 and 21 year old age limit. If a state doesn't pass it, they get no highway funds. Get a couple of taxi companies on speed dial -- you'll save lots of money. A good, and related story about the myth that you have to blow at least a .08 to get a dui. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) I've been watching all the movies for the first time this week--I still need to see the fourth. I know this is the wrong way to do it, but it's really got me into this story. After watching these movies so far, my plan was to see the fifth and then read the next two books. However, I'm tempted to start reading them all from the beginning now. They're surprisingly good. And great quick reads for the summer. I am so excited about last book. I have to take my pre-lims (aka comps/quals/worst things ever) and I actually planned my schedule for taking them around the release date of the book. So, I will be done with those on July 17th and will be able to spend the weekend curled up with the book guilt free!

QUOTE(Be Good @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:37 PM) Hey guys, I'm looking for a new or used ('04 or newer) car. I've had my '90 Grand Marquis for 4 years now and saved up for a new one. I'm looking to spend anywhere from 7-10k down, and i may be willing to do a payment. The intrest rate on a payment should be fairly well as my credit score is above average. What are your suggestions for a good looking, reliable, economical car. New or used. THANKS I bought a used Corolla (05) and it has been nothing but bliss. Very low maintenance, great gas mileage, etc. I have absolutely NO complaints about that car.

Now THAT was uncalled for. Texas crowd kills man after car hit girl By LIZ AUSTIN PETERSON, Associated Press Writer 54 minutes ago AUSTIN, Texas - An angry crowd beat a man to death after a vehicle he was riding in struck and injured a young girl, police said Wednesday. Police believe 2,000 to 3,000 people were in the area for a Juneteenth celebration when the attack occurred Tuesday night. The driver had stopped to check on the little girl at the entrance to an apartment complex when a group of men attacked him, authorities said. The passenger, David Rivas Morales, 40, got out to try to help the driver, but the crowd turned on him, said police Commander Harold Piatt. Morales was beaten to death by as many as 20 men and left lying in a parking lot, Piatt said. A preliminary autopsy listed blunt force trauma as the cause of death. The little girl, 3 or 4 years old, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver, who got away from the crowd, is cooperating with investigators, police said. Piatt did not know how many witnesses had been identified, but thousands of people had been in the area for the daylong festival. He said no guns or knives appeared to have used in the fatal attack. Juneteenth marks the day Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston in 1865 to share news of the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves two years earlier on Jan. 1, 1863.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) This girl has Barry in her CD player - so loud I am waking up singing Copacabana several times a week - and it's been there since at least mid March. You should have her brought up for violating your basic human rights. I would call Amnesty International. . .

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) The same CD for months? All day long... every day...? Yes, big bonus points for it not being BM. Months, no, but I can listen to the same cd during my commute for weeks and weeks. . .And I've been known to listen to the same classical cd (over headphones of course) for a week at work. . .

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) How in the hell does someone listen to the SAME cd day in and day out. Barry Manilow to boot. I'll do that. But NEVER to Barry Manilow--I hope I get some points for that.

Drink more, people, drink more Last call for historic Guinness brewery? Brewer may shutter place beer has been made for 250 years as sales drop in Ireland. Bloomberg News Published June 18, 2007, 8:51 AM CDT Diageo PLC, the world's biggest liquor company, may stop making Guinness at a 250-year-old Dublin site after reviewing its brewing operations in Ireland, where sales of the stout are dropping. The company is "considering a number of important investment decisions on upgrading and renewing its brewing facilities in Ireland in the coming years," according to an e- mailed statement released today. "No decisions have been made or will be made until the assessment is completed," it said. The St. James' Gate site, near the River Liffey, exports Guinness extract, the "essence" of the drink, to more than 45 countries. The site, where production began in 1759, also makes all Guinness for Ireland and the U.K. since Diageo closed its Park Royal brewery in London in 2005. The amount of Guinness sold in Europe fell 7 percent in Diageo's fiscal first half as demand waned in Ireland and the U.K. Andrew Morgan, president of the London-based company's European division, said in April that Diageo is reversing cuts in its marketing budget for the region in an effort to boost sales of the dark brew. The Sunday Independent newspaper yesterday said Diageo may move the brewery in Dublin's St. James' Gate to a new site to the north of the city and sell the existing property for as much as $4 billion. Grainne Mackin, head of corporate communications at Diageo Ireland, called the report "pure speculation." "All options are going to be looked at, but no outcome has been decided," Mackin said in a telephone interview. "Diageo Ireland is very important to Diageo as a brewing hub." The 64-acre property, which also houses a seven-story visitor center and bars, has grown 16-fold from the original property Arthur Guinness acquired on a 9,000-year lease. If sold, it would join the Irish Times newspaper headquarters and Dalymount Park football stadium among landmarks that have been bought to feed a decade-long property boom that has seen home prices and office rents in the capital quadruple. Companies including Jurys Doyle Hotel Group and Readymix Plc have also sold sites in Dublin, while property developer Liam Carroll has bought a 29.5 percent stake in food company Greencore Group Plc, which is planning to develop two sites in the Irish midlands.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) One portion of an Arrested Development episode that always gets me going... GOB is trying to swallow a key, using a ton of alcohol to get it down, choking, spitting up, having a hell of a time... then the words "Professional Magician: Do Not Attempt" flash across the screen. Another moment from season 1... Michael and GOB are trying to trick george michael into not buying pot in the future, so they set up a sting with some "hot cops" friends of GOBs (strippers dressed as cops)... then George, Sr, their father, decides to teach them not to "teach lessons" (I know)... So fake drug dealers come in, and as they get pissed bc the "cops" showed up, GOB yells... "they aren't real cops! look at how hot they are!" i love that show. omg, I love that episode. My favorite part is when Michael asks George Michael if he was down by the pier because some people saw him down there and George Michael goes, Maybe it was the other George Michael, you know, the singer song-writer. I absolutely love that kid's deadpan.. But there could be almost any moment from that series that qualifies. I love all the really dirty jokes. I don't know why but one scene that always cracks me up in from the 2nd season of Scrubs when Cox is trying to decide between Heather Locklear and a pregnant Jordan and the new radical song is playing and the two women are strutting around--Jordan in that scene slays me. And I don't know why.

Link Pole wakes from 19-year coma in democratic country Sat Jun 2, 10:50 AM ET WARSAW (Reuters) - A 65-year-old railwayman who fell into a coma following an accident in communist Poland regained consciousness 19 years later to find democracy and a market economy, Polish media reported on Saturday. ADVERTISEMENT Click Here! Wheelchair-bound Jan Grzebski, whom doctors had given only two or three years to live following his 1988 accident, credited his caring wife Gertruda with his revival. "It was Gertruda that saved me, and I'll never forget it," Grzebski told news channel TVN24. "For 19 years Mrs Grzebska did the job of an experienced intensive care team, changing her comatose husband's position every hour to prevent bed-sore infections," Super Express reported Dr Boguslaw Poniatowski as saying. "When I went into a coma there was only tea and vinegar in the shops, meat was rationed and huge petrol queues were everywhere," Grzebski told TVN24, describing his recollections of the communist system's economic collapse. "Now I see people on the streets with cell phones and there are so many goods in the shops it makes my head spin." Grzebski awoke to find his four children had all married and produced 11 grandchildren during his years in hospital. He said he vaguely recalled the family gatherings he was taken to while in a coma and his wife and children trying to communicate with him.

Here's my advice: Find someone very wealthy and marry them without a pre-nup. Done.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) Y'all should read the link. A gay bar in Australia got the right to ban straight people. That's a bar I'd never go to. That is really dumb. Are they also not allowing lesbians--because it kind of sounded like that. . . Whatever, it's their legal right, but that's freaking lame. I wouldn't even stay at the hotel.
