  1. Johnson: 0 runs through 5 innings. Since the beginning of June (including today's start thus far): 79.2 innings, 10 ER (1.13 ERA), 53 hits, 19 walks, 79 Ks (0.90 WHIP). But sure, let's keep throwing out Danks every fifth day.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) It means nothing. AAA numbers, especially for a guy that spent so many years at the major league level, are worthless. Haha, ya. 79 at-bats in Charlotte this year is irrelevant when we saw 1675 at-bats in the Majors.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) To be fair, 2013 was Arenado's age 22 season. He is just now blossoming offensively. I do understand Quintana's value, but I assume the asking price on Arenado will be very high. Quintana is a terrific #2 pitcher, signed for five more years at a total of $40 million. His value is sky high, too.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) I think you're undervaluing Arenado. IMO he's a top five player in baseball on a very good contract. Arenado WAR: 2.5 in 2013, 2.9 in 2014 and 3.8 so far in 2015. Quintana WAR: 3.5 in 2013, 5.1 in 2014 and 3.5 so far in 2015. Quintana is two years older. And you think we should trade Quintana + three of our top six prospects for him? To me, Q for Arenado straight up would be a fair trade.
  5. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) Haven't heard if Johnson is off the DL yet. With consecutive seasons where he's had leg issues, to me, his "star" is falling. Can't count on a guy who can't stay healthy can you? Mark But when he is healthy, he has proven he can be a dynamic offensive player. That is why in theory you have good reserves who can cover for him. At some point, you need solid players on cheap contracts. We've been burned pretty much every time we try and sign a veteran free agent. Although he struggled somewhat in his major league debut offensively (defensively he was bad), his .631 OPS is better than Alexei's .617 for 2015. He definitely did not look overmatched at the plate, just looked like he needed experience. Might as well just DH him since LaRoche is OPSing .642.
  6. I agree that the Sox will need to make a move for a legit hitter, but right now, we have six weeks or so left in the season and our young players need to play every day. Saladino needs to play 3B everyday. Sanchez needs to play SS/2B every day. Micah Johnson needs to be promoted and play 2B/DH almost every day. Trayce Thompson needs to play one of the outfield positions or DH nearly every day. These are our four youngsters who could contribute next year in starting roles. If you don't let them play the next six weeks, you entertain the off season with more questions because you don't know how they will handle starting. Give them these six weeks, and you just answering the questions. I am fairly certain both Saladino and Thompson will be bench players, but you'll only know for sure if you let them play.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) What does Santos have anything to do with Matt Davidson? Santos was traded for Molina, whom Fathom referenced.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) He's almost under .200 now in his third year in AAA. Someone in the organization flat out blew their scouting of him. Davidson is the hitting equivalent of Nestor Molina. At least Santos and Reed have been worth a combined 0.4 career WAR since being traded from the Sox (Santos: 0.0; Reed: 0.4).
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) Zangari hits Right-handed. Ya, not sure why I thought he hit left-handed. Maybe I am trying to make him Volgelbach subconsciously.
  10. Zangari had another nice game. He seems very comparable to the Cubs' Vogelbach. Both large men (Vogelbach a little more compact though because he is shorter) and pure left-handed mashers. Both also profile as 1B/DH. Zangari's next step is to work on that BB rate.
  11. Please GO KW. You will not be missed. Too bad Dombrowski just joined the Red Sox. He would have been a nice choice to replace KW if he left.
  12. I don't understand it as well. It would behoove the Sox to figure out if he can be a part of the 2016 rotation. The more starts he gets in the Majors, the better sample size you have to make the decision. If you have to skip Danks, then that's what you do. Determining if Erik Johnson can be a cost-controlled mid-rotation piece is way more important than letting Danks continue to pitch as a starter for whatever reason the Sox give. Sadly, I think the Sox hope they can trade Danks + Cash to a team next year.
  13. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) Love Beltre and Perez. If Perez could keep this up, he could make some fringe top 100 list, he's already getting some love from around the league. And my god Ricky Mota has been awful thus far. Striking out 30% of the time for a player with .030 ISO is unheard of even for a pitcher. And errors don't mean much at that level but kid's already have 30 errors in 55 games. He definitely has work cut out for him the next few years. I think it is probably a little too early for that. Most top-100 prospect lists really do not include guys playing in the DSL for consideration.
  14. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) buddy bell was on white sox weekly with Rongey and it pretty much sounds as though the organization has all but given up on him. Next thing bell said they may try to just completely tear his swing down and start all over, essentially a Hail Mary Maybe the Sox should tear down the player development personnel and start all over, too.
  15. This is just terrible. For a raw receiver, he needs reps, reps and reps. His first year will be a complete wash. Not that the Bears were going to be better than 7-9 anyway, but now one of the few players I was excited to watch is out.
  16. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) I assume there were more people at the house than just the two women. Kane must have had some friends with, too. I believe he had his own friends over, too.
  17. Amazing for a 12-year-old. She should definitely keep pursuing the art thing, if at the very least a hobby.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) Obviously, there is nothing stopping Kane from hiring a co-counsel that is an expert in the defense of sexual assault/rape cases. No doubt. My point more so was that just because the attorney is from the DA's Office, that does not mean the attorney isn't very good.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) yes you do have a point on different states. which i do not know if NY is one of them. second, in the examination and cross examination when evidence in introduce and can be question, it might be there where it may come to lite and or intro. leaving the rest to question that line. this is going to be the best lawyers the defense can pay vs the district attorney. New York's Rape Shield Law § 60.42 Rules of evidence; admissibility of evidence of victim's sexual conduct in sex offense cases. Evidence of a victim's sexual conduct shall not be admissible in a prosecution for an offense or an attempt to commit an offense defined in article one hundred thirty of the penal law unless such evidence: 1. proves or tends to prove specific instances of the victim's prior sexual conduct with the accused; or 2. proves or tends to prove that the victim has been convicted of an offense under section 230.00 of the penal law within three years prior to the sex offense which is the subject of the prosecution; or 3. rebuts evidence introduced by the people of the victim's failure to engage in sexual intercourse, deviate sexual intercourse or sexual contact during a given period of time; or 4. rebuts evidence introduced by the people which proves or tends to prove that the accused is the cause of pregnancy or disease of the victim, or the source of semen found in the victim; or 5. is determined by the court after an offer of proof by the accused outside the hearing of the jury, or such hearing as the court may require, and a statement by the court of its findings of fact essential to its determination, to be relevant and admissible in the interests of justice. Also the district attorney who is in charge of the case so far is from the Special Victim's Unit and routinely prosecutes the county's hardest sex cases. I would bet that Kane's defense attorney has at most tried five sex cases, if any, whereas this assistant district attorney on the case has done maybe 100s. There is no doubt in my mind that the county has the more qualified attorney for this specific case.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) Her on video being drunk and most likely no signs of a real attack are going to get it thrown out or settled regardless of what really happened. However, her being drunk could also demonstrate she could not have given a valid consent. Also, being settled only is relevant to the civil side, although she could technically refuse not to cooperate after settling on some monetary figure.
  21. Pretty damning and telling, if true. Really bolsters her credibility. But also this: Looks like it's going to be your classic, he-said, she-said.
  22. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) Anybody else really excited about this guy? I know he is 25, but it means little in this case IMO. He has so little baseball experience, yet he is an unbelievable hitter so far. The guy gets on base like none other. Do the sox have a special player here? I wouldn't call him special because defensively he remains a huge work in progress. He definitely has skills that cannot be taught: speed and patience at the plate. Hopefully, he finishes up strong in High-A and plays in the AFL. He is way more advanced than anyone could have imagined after taking significant time off. His season is extremely encouraging, but as always, the more he produces against better competition, the more excited I will get. He definitely has gone from a organizational player to legit prospect though.
  23. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) Taking a step back, this is an absolutely dreadful offseason for the Blackhawks. Even if he is "cleared", it is a huge problem that Patrick Kane keeps putting himself in these situations If he's cleared though, what "situation" has he put himself in? Going out with friends? Sleeping with someone? I don't know if he's got a girlfriend or not (if he did, then obviously there's the cheating component), but if he's single and he's cleared of wrongdoing, he has not put himself in any "situation."
  24. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 06:10 AM) If a top draft pick had those stats, there would be wet dreams all over the place. Cooper?? In nobody's Top Anything. But if there is a trade looming, the other team will want Cooper thrown into the deal. But very few top draft picks are minor league relievers.
