  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2015 -> 05:14 AM) Tim Beckham went first overall and Gordon Beckham's 2009 is better than anything Tim Beckham has done during his career. Beckham is still a top five player in WAR from that draft class. I think people hate Beckham mostly because we saw that 2009 and saw what he could have been. But yea, Tim Beckham is one of the bigger busts in recent draft history; Gordon Beckham has at least been a Major League player for six years. Looked it up, he is tied with Hosmer at a career 6.6 WAR. Now, I am sure in a few years, Beckham will drop on that list, but still he did not "bust" like most draft picks, simply did not live up to his potential. He still have carved out a decent ML career.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) None of the front office has been in their positions for 10 years. KW and Hahn have been the top two in the organization since 2001, the titles have changed, but the members have not. Not trying to be snarky, but simply stating the facts. I am a Hahn supporter, but think his hands are tied with JR and KW still having input. I honestly do not know who has final say over things in the organization.
  3. Looked like a good strike too.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Noesi deserves more of a chance than Danks. Noesi hasn't exactly been helped by Rodon. And Rodon hasn't been helped by Ventura.
  5. Also when was the last time Coop fixed somebody?
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 3, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Worst part is Sox brass think nothing is wrong at all. Hahn is smarter than anyone on this board. He knows the Sox problems. He probably can't get rid of RV without JR's approval.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) Stone doesn't believe him. He is the realistic half of the broadcast tandem.
  8. Love Hawk with the "We are a very good team playing very ball baseball." Until they prove me otherwise, we are an average team playing bad baseball.
  9. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 3, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) Everyone needs to stay away from games during this next homestand. If the gate is small enough, maybe the organization will recognize the how pissed off the fan base is and fire Robin while we still have a chance to correct this mess. Let's bring back Ozzie before its too late. With Bulls/Hawks playoffs every night, I have a feeling attendance with be dismal based on that alone.
  10. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 3, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) Most of us are on the same page with RV. He is NOT an MLB manager. JR loves him as a person so they took a chance on him. The fact that we are 4 years in and he is still this bad says something. JR is too loyal. He will not fire RV in the middle of the season (which is a mistake IMO). Gardy is available, Ron Washington is available. Hell, Ozzie Guillen is available. All three are waaaayy better than Robin!!! And therein lies a major problem, IMO, with this organization. It seems that JR has a lot of input/influence on some of these decisions. While it is certainly his prerogative as the owner to have final say/influence/whatever on those decisions, it hurts the franchise and is contrary to having a GM who oversees the operations of the baseball franchise. Let JR do whatever he wants on the business side, because frankly that is his expertise. But he should have zero input on any baseball decisions, which is why he presumably hired a GM, to run and make the baseball decisions.
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 3, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) Makes me wonder what Sox could get for Alexi, or has that ship sailed? Still signed for a reasonable $10 million for next year (team option), so if he could get back on track, he definitely would have some value. Probably could get a borderline top 100 prospect for him and maybe a couple low-level pieces, too. But of course this presupposes, he hasn't just lost it. But if he were playing at the rate he did last year, there is definitely some value in 3-WAR shortstop.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 2, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) It's not saying much with our s***ty team but Johnson has been one of the few bright spots, IMO. I love the way he plays the game. If Sanchez can play 3B at least as well as Gillaspie I would look at that I agree, Micah has to continue to play. Now, Sanchez is certainly tearing up AAA, again, it's AAA. His huge numbers are being aided by Charlotte's ballpark (1.334 OPS at home versus .587 on road). Not trying to take away from Sanchez, but he still does not walk a lot and his power, to me, looks like AAA power not ML power. He certainly can be a solid ML 2B, an above-average guy who you can put in the line-up every day. Micah, while the floor is certainly lower, can be one of the best 2B in the game. He just needs to be allowed to struggle and get consistent at-bats.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ May 3, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) something just dawned on me, this morning i posted the college players stats who are interesting me for this upcoming draft. Paul DeJong, he is listed as a catcher, but they, his school have been playing him at 1b, 2b, alot of 3b now last nite rf???? why?? to improve his draft standing??? Who knows. But moving him around probably won't help his stock. He has 12 errors on the year, so it may be Ill. State trying to find a position he can play decently defensively so that his bat can remain in the line-up. I really know nothing about the guy except the statistics I saw and he is a high-power, high-strikeout guy who doesn't have a defined position. Probably doesn't bode well for his future.
  14. Ventura shouldn't have been hired in the first place. He came into the Sox managing job without any credentials to be a manger. He was fricking coaching a high school baseball team and doing college baseball color commentary. He was a really good major league player, but that is not a credential to being a successful manager. Never coached college ball, minor league ball or was a coach at the Major League level. The Sox just hired him for god knows why. To this day, I have absolutely no idea why the hell he was offered the White Sox job. He needs to go, plain and simple. We have a team that plays such horses*** fundamentals, bad defense, terrible at-bats. At some point, the manager has to shoulder the blame. Success is never solely because of a manager and ditto for failure, but he deserves a significant part of the blame.
  15. I wanted Ozzie to go after 2011, but I would so much rather see him managing this club right now.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) The problem is his delivery. He makes Sale look smooth. Are there no quality college bats available at this pick that wouldn't be a reach? I don't see anything that terrible in his delivery. It definitely has some effort to it, but it doesn't seem overwhelming. But again, with pitchers, it seems everything is a crap shoot with injuries and success. Rumors have mentioned the White Sox (and Red Sox) interested in Fulmer, and we are known as arguably the best organization when it comes to pitcher's injuries. So if the White Sox do not view him delivery as a problem, I am on board.
  17. The guy I would like is Carson Fulmer, and it will definitely be close if he makes it to the Sox's pick. None of the hitters really wow me at all - as far as college hitters. And I have ZERO faith in the Sox taking a high school bat and developing him into an MLB bat, so to me it becomes take the BPA between a college arm and a high school arm. And I think it Fulmer is the BPA. He is having a terrific year in the SEC and has electric stuff. Many worry about his size and durability, but I have still yet to see any study (maybe there is one, I honestly have no idea) that finds any correlation or causation between a pitcher's size and his ability to stay healthy. There just seems to be an assumption that if you are not 6'3" and 220, you are destined for the bullpen because you aren't built like the prototypical pitcher. So he is the guy I would take. I really like Tucker, but like I said, I have no faith in the Sox being able to take a high school bat and help him become an MLB player.
  18. QUOTE (glangon @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) Having learned that they are appealing the Wild Aces suspension, Johnson won't be called up, it will be pen arm probably Webb. When Sale and Shark are suspended it wouldn't surprise me to see Johnson up to cover a start He's pitching terribly in AAA, so I doubt he would get called up.
  19. Well we better score in the first six innings, because the last three will be very hard. Royals pen has given up three runs ALL YEAR. 0.58 ERA for relievers.
  20. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) Sorry, just saw this video How is that possible?! Isn't there a net/screen behind home plate?? She was probably leaning to close to the screen.
  21. Sanchez has a high average, but that will come screaming down. His BABIP is .615. He has a 7 to 1 K to BB ratio. He has gotten off to a strong start, but it is most because he is getting lucky. The organization is in better shape if Micah Johnson is the guy because of his much higher ceiling. You have got to give Johnson time. It's been barely 10 games for him, not even close to being enough time to make an educated decision.
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 11:01 PM) Nah, I never had high hopes, but he's certainly looking done. Can't be this bad and expect that big of a turnaround. As for Jordan Guerrero, in my mind he showed enough to not go back to Low-A. Maybe I'm early in jumping on the promote someone bandwagon, but I'd like to see him moved to Winston-Salem before June. The way the Sox generally promote in aggressive fashion with their real prospects, you would have to imagine he would be if he keeps rolling.
  23. Quote that really caught my eye from the article: Just seems ridiculous. You would think some teams could easily buy 20 apartment units around the facilities for the players to stay in rent free. Sort of related, I am very interested to see how the litigation of minor league players alleging violation of minimum wage laws, etc. impacts minor league baseball. But it just seems patently unfair to ask guys to commit to baseball for a team, pay them peanuts, but also ask them to pay for housing and utilities.
  24. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Which underscores how much we still need some impact bats. Feel pretty good on the pitching front. What new? Ya, the offensive talent is so scarce in this system. Anderson is obviously a great looking prospect, but still has so much boom/bust potential. Hawkins, similar to Anderson, has the tools, but again way too much boom/bust. Pitching is terrific, but we have no bats and I still have a hard a lot of uncertainty about this organization developing bats. Trey Michalczewski is so far away from impact and he just has terrible contact issues. Ditto with Barnum. I can't get excited about Jacob May. He's a fourth outfielder at best. There is just a lack of development in this organization of offensive players. Everyone who has contact issues never seems to rectify those issues.
