  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 07:51 AM) He might be the real deal. He had a tough start, something like 1 for his first 10. Hope he plays every game from here on. The most impressive thing so far is his power. .176 ISO power. For a 17-year-old, that is incredibly impressive. The power is most definitely real with the kid.
  2. Haven't listened to ESPN for ages. Liked Waddle/Silvy, but enjoyed B&B better. Not B&B is bad, so might have to go back. I love Spiegel, but I can't stand the new co-host every day thing. Just stop negotiating with Mac, he does not deserve to be back on the air with all of his shenanigans over the years. But Spiegel needs a solid co-host. Rozner drives me nuts (I know some people like him), Abattacola is bad, Grote was surprising solid when I heard him the other day. Carmen/Jurko is probably the worst thing on radio. And any time I have to hear Nick Fridell, my ears melt. Haven't even wanted to give the Game a try.
  3. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) Do people still think Leury Garcia is worthy of a roster spot for next year? .182/.216/.236. You just can't carry that from someone who's not a pitcher. I think he has been rushed through the Minors. He is a valuable asset as a versatile defender and runner, but he seriously can't hit a lick. On a good team, I think he has value. On a bad team where he has to play more often, his inability to hit really shows.
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) Hell, give it up. Just accept the salary as a sunk cost and start getting these youngsters some MLB playing time. The upside is you save a couple million but it's not even worth it imo. It could conceivably save money in the future, too. Let's say Wilkins hits for an .800 OPS in the Majors this year in a decent number of at-bats, you could envision a scenario where the Sox feel comfortable having him as their 2015 DH for $500,000 over someone slightly better at $7-8 million.
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) if they were put through waivers we should have heard from now I'm guessing they were put through already and not claimed. If they were somehow claimed, you would hear something. If they just passed through unclaimed, I doubt it would be news.
  6. We seriously need to see Avi in RF, Semien at 2B and Wilkins at DH. Likely Wilkins will struggle, but you gotta at least see if he can be an ML bat. I'd rather he get 150 at-bats down the stretch than Dunn. Let's face it, our pitching is not good enough to win the second Wild Card. Rather let the youngster play and see if we can count on them in the future (obviously not including Garcia in the see if we can count on them players).
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) I know, you still can't do that. You can't make trades after July 31st without a player passing through waivers. Duh. Major brain fart on my part. Yeah, you gotta go through waivers. haha.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) Not after July 31st. I think he means in the 10-day window in which he is designated for assignment, reaching a deal with the Marlins to acquire him instead of risking that he make it to the Sox via waivers.
  9. It's nice to at least see that we have four legit mid-rotation or better starting pitcher prospects in our system now (Rodon, Danish, Montas, Adams). If Johnson gets his act together and Beck improves, you have two more back-end arms.
  10. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) I'd be surprised if he ranks that highly. He may sneak into the back of some top 100's but I wouldn't expect more than that. I agree. The lack of elite stuff and sure-fire starter frame/mechanics/etc. will keep him outside the 100. He is having a terrific year. I mean as a 19-year-old in High A, the only negative for his statistics are the hits, but that is partially a product of a minor-league defense.
  11. If Adam Engel ever figures it out...that kid could be a monster.
  12. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) When does Kevan Smith get moved up? he must suck behind the plate still. It has more to do with Phegley blocking him than his defense behind the plate probably. The Sox would rather let both players get regular ABs than split time in Charlotte.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) thank for the info. the 1 million buyout clause means that the club could buy him out or does that mean both the club or the player can use the buyout? this the what I am confuse about. Gordon, and DV. I will wait till the sox brass does something about them. I will keep them listed until then. It simply means that if KC doesn't exercise the team option for 2015, they have to pay him the $1 million buy-out provision.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) there is a lot of assumptions on your lineup. my main opinion on your line up is ss-ramirez and conor. I think they need to bat 2 and 3 in front of Abreu. I guess you are hoping DV, and Gordo are traded. Butler is one of the players I would like to see however he has an option. with that, I will admit I do not know how the option works on the FA's. I think Gordon is all but gone. They can't pay him $5 million for the same performance they can get for $500,000 with Semien or Johnson. So he is gone. Viciedo I think will be traded in the off-season. Butler has a team option for $12.5 million. I can't see KC exercising that option with his past couple years, so he is likely going to hit free agency. If you could sign him to a two-year, $16-million deal with maybe a third-year player option based on incentives, he could be a solid bargain (assuming he starts hitting again).
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 08:08 AM) They need another hitter in the middle of the line-up or it's not going to be a competitive offense. There's certainly no guarantee that Gillaspie will repeat, and Abreu might lose some of his plate discipline if he starts to press too much again if they keep pitching around him constantly. That's where Hahn is going to have to get creative. There aren't any elite bats in free agency this year and we probably don't have the prospects (unless we want to give up Rodon) to get one via trade.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 08:01 AM) Gillaspie definitely has a place in the lineup, but not 4th. Need at least a 20+ HR guy batting behind Abreu. Ideally, it is Avisail, but right now, I think Gillaspie is the second-best overall hitter on the Sox.
  17. CF - Eaton 2B - Semien 1B - Abreu 3B - Gillaspie RF - Garcia SS - Ramirez LF - FA/Trade DH - FA/Trade C - FA/Trade/Flowers (who will still likely be the best option we have) I would try a buy-low with Billy Butler for DH. And for LF, I may just try Micah Johnson out there. We would likely have enough money to go out and try to get a high-end starter.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) So that means he should win MVP every damn year? Why not just give him 10 MVPS right now. Well he has been the best player in baseball the last two years and doesn't have any MVPs to show for it...
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) What a day for Danks to pitch like a clown. It's very unlikely that today's performance really changed opinions teams have of Danks. He is a back-end rotation arm making $15 million. Today will not change that.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) I love me some Jose Abreu but Trout is just a better player having a better overall year. He's your MVP. Trout is the best player in baseball and will be so for the next 10 years. Nothing against Jose, but Trout is a once-in-a-generation player.
  21. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) If you do not dump the salary of Beckham, Danks, or Dunn, you really failed the organization. And I'm your biggest fan. Sincerely, AtC Seriously? Beckham and Danks are both bad players. Why would someone pay Beckham when they can bring up a minor leaguer making much less and producing just as much? Danks is a back-end rotation arm and makes $15 million per year, no one wants that. And Dunn can only play one position, DH. They are not good players and no one wants them.
  22. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) Bruce Levine Multiple scouts still taking in John Danks start in Detroit today . https://twitter.com/MLBBruceLevine/status/494881049302671361 QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) There will be life for another month. He'll definitely be in play on waivers.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) I scrub with brush, rinse with aid of a rag and running water. Mine, too.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) Depends what you're looking for really. Definitely. You really enjoy the Lake? Then Uptown-Lincoln Park, etc. You like the "hipster" scene: Bucktown and Wicker Park. Wanna be close to the Loop but not in the Loop? West Loop. South Loop.
  25. I'm relatively certain he will come up the Majors and perform poorly, but I'd rather have him try and fail than Dunn do the same who has no future with this organization. And in the off chance Wilkins hits well in the Majors, Hahn might be able to check one need off the list. But If Wilkins is going to be given a shot, it needs to be done now, not one start a week in September. But Wilkins is strictly going to be a 1B/DH type. I don't think there is a realistic chance he could play the OF.
