Now let's see Marcus the rest of the year, please, not Leury Garcia.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) I think that would be highly unusually to promote someone straight off of a rehab assignment, especially when his old team is fighting for a playoff spot. The difficult decision I was referring to was what to do with Rondon, either keep him at SS and have Anderson replace Basto at DH, or split SS, or possibly a temporary move to 3B or 2B? I would hate to see Rondon get demoted after his success with the Dash, we will see. I was actually more talking about next season since the minor league season is almost over.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) The way I see it, we are talking about a couple weeks of ball...send Anderson to AA or maybe have him continue his rehab in low A and put him in the fall league (or have Rondon go to the AFL). Either way, its definitely a good problem to have. Exactly, we haven't had two legit ML-caliber shortstops in quite awhile. In the past, we had shortstops who projected as second basemen, but now we actually have two shortstops who profile as ML shortstops.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...r-the-playoffs/ Recap posted. Tim Anderson homered again in his rehab assignment, with the way Cleuluis Rondon is hitting, the Sox have a tough decision to make. I'd say the decision is both easy and hard. Easy in that it is clear that both need to be on different teams because both can be ML shortstops. Hard in that Anderson is probably a little ahead of Rondon in physical and offensive maturity, though not defensively. With only 300 High-A at-bats, do the Sox really think Anderson is ready for AA? His performance in the AFL will probably go a long way in determining how the Sox handle both players. If Anderson does well in the AFL, then it is probably Anderson in AA and Rondon staying in High-A. If Anderson struggles, then the it becomes more dicey.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) If Red Sox want Alexei, I'm asking for Boegarts. He's struggled this year, but they are not giving up a 21-year-old cost-controlled SS for one year of Alexei Ramirez.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) I really doubt you see him this fall. We are already opening up a 40 man roster spot for Rodon, and made one for Avi. There are plenty of players to drop for the 40 for both of them. Nestor Molina, Paulino, Frank De Los Santos, Taylor Thompson all can be dropped.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) I've said this before and I'll say it again- who specifically do you all want when you ask for a lefty bat to replace Dunn? There just aren't many LH power hitters on the market. That is why it is imperative to see what you have in Wilkins. He may suck and I would argue that is more likely than feeling confident to place him as your DH next year, but you gotta see what you have.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) Again, for Noesi this really doesn't express what he's actually done this season. He's on the verge of being a >1 WAR pitcher with the White Sox and a -0.3 WAR pitcher with the Rangers/Mariners this season, and that's as a pitcher who still has room to grow in this league. I wouldn't pay him $13.5 million for that performance and I wouldn't pencil him into my number 2 slot in the rotation, but if Noesi is a 1 WAR pitcher and James Shields or Justin Masterson is a 3 WAR pitcher, then we're talking about paying maybe 5/$100 to a guy who will add ~$10 million in value to the rotation. That's a very different question. Danks, yes, he remains a problem and I'm disappointed we didn't do something to deal with that problem at the trading deadline when maybe you could have gotten a team to pay a premium "win-now" price in terms of how much of that contract they'd pick up. I added in my original post that Noesi has been better with the Sox. He still is a complete unknown though. As your fifth starter, I think he would be fine. But when you also have Danks and an unproven third starter, it exacerbates the problem.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) I think Rick is going to spend a bit of money in the offseason to make the Sox a legit 2015 contender. There's definitely some holes on the roster right now but there's a lot of talent here too. The main problem with our team is the lack of pitching, in the rotation and the bullpen. Obviously, we have 1-2 in the rotation set. But 3-4-5 is a complete mystery. Offensively, we are 7th in the AL in runs scored, right in the middle of the pack. The offensive is probably fine with hopefully full seasons from Eaton and Garcia. Then add that Semien will probably outperform Beckham. You don't need to spend that much for a LF in order to replace ADA. And Flowers is what he is, a mediocre catcher that will be hard to upgrade due to the lack of quality catching options. But we are going to have to spend to fix the rotation. I hope Rodon can handle a rotation spot, but Danks and Noesi are complete wildcards. Frankly, Rodon is, too, and he can't be counted on for 35 starts. Of the 43 qualifying pitchers for WAR in the AL, Noesi and Danks are 41 and 43, respectively (though Noesi has been better with the Sox). IMO, the rotation is the biggest need, followed by the bullpen. Either Rick is going to have to spend big on pitching (which he is probably averse to) or we are going to have to pray that we find the next Jake Arrieta and not Felipe Paulino.

Rodon Watch 1-2-3 in the first (2Ks)

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) Good point. At a time when I absolutely despised the Cubs I was still a fan of Prior's. Man, that Big 3 they had in 2003 of Big Z, Prior and Wood was something. Loved Zambrano the most. As much as a headcase as he was, I loved his energy, watching him bat and go absolutely nuts running the bases with no regard for his body.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Seriously. I mean, Andy Wilkins didn't get a lot of love from us at FutureSox because he's 26, but we understand that he can hit. But Ravelo? This is a guy who is 22 years old hitting .318/.397/.491 at AA and showing ever increasing power. I don't want to go all crazy talk, and I'm not outright making this comparison, but at similar ages, Ravelo and Votto were putting up similar numbers. Votto walked and struck out more (so more good and bad), but they do have similar bodies of work at this point (including height and build). Like I said, I don't want people to think that I'm saying Ravelo is the next Votto, but there's a lot of reason for optimism. Ravelo has 36 2Bs. As he gains power, those will turn into HRs. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibilities that he eventually develops 20-HR power in his prime (like a season or two around 20 HRs). Sure guys like Ravelo aren't sexy hitters because they don't have huge power, but he just has a knack for hitting. The biggest question mark about Ravelo is his position. He has four errors in 100 games at first base in AA and since he was originally a third baseman, you have to imagine he can be at least above average defensively there. But you also don't want to move Abreu to DH where many hitters have said it hurt their offensive performance being only a DH. We have a gaping hole in LF and it would be perfect if Ravelo could handle LF, but who knows and if could, the Sox would have probably moved him by now (or at least tried him out there).

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) It didn't feel dirty at all. If I believe losing was the best thing for the franchise, why should I feel dirty about that? You just gotta use the euphemism that you want to see the youngsters playing every day in September.

Very good article on difficulty of being a AAA player
maggsmaggs replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
Terrific article. Loved this quote: I had a little league coach who was a first-round pick of the Cubs in the 70s out of high school, blew out his knee a couple seasons into his career and never recovered. Played for a few more seasons, but never made the Big Leagues. I have always wondered what's worse: Being in his spot, never making it to the Big Leagues or being a guy who gets a taste of it here and there, but can't stick. -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) 3 up 3 down for Danish including a SO of Bubba Starling.......Speaking of that dude, I feel like his name was brought up years ago as a future star and dude is still in A ball? I think it is more likely he goes the route of Brandon Weeden than makes it as an MLB player.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) Mac is so good and so bad for a station. He is fun to listen to, but his absence is so bad for a show Also, Abbattacola not announced as his replacement is very telling Thank god. I cannot stand him. The show becomes just a running joke the entire four hours when he is on. I was surprised that I liked Mark Grote a lot with Spiegel when he was on. My guess is that Rozner will take over. I think LoHo is probably in the running, but I don't know if he likes being co-host, I think he likes doing his own thing.

Avisail Garcia reportedly to join Sox next Tues (8/19)
maggsmaggs replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Man, I was so wrong about his rehab. Didn't think there was anyway he would be back for this year, let alone before September. Insane recovery. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) When Anderson gets back, who they going to send down because as of right now its C Navarez 1B Barnum 2B Peter SS Rondon 3B Trey LF Hawkins CF Engel RF Walker (May when he is healthy) That is a good line up. It's gotta be Rondon. Anderson needs to play SS everyday and so too does Rondon.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) Am I mistaking a year, but weren't those games against the Mariners mainly during the day in the shadows where it was extremely difficult to hit? I don't recall the Mariners scoring a bunch of runs against us. I do remember losing one of the games on an infield hit or something like that and Edgar had a homer or two. Yeah that White Sox team scored 978 runs in 2000, tops in the league. They had a bad three-game stretch against Seattle. Give me the best hitters you can field regardless of handedness. Sure it would be better if you had a more balanced line-up, but great left-handed hitters are not just hitting free agency with regularity.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) In fact, I believe it's at 41 if you include Avisail. Someone needs to go in order to activate him from the 60 man within the next week and a half. Candidates? Frank De Los Santos Maikel Cleto Charlie Leesman Nestor Molina Felipe Paulino Those five guys simply do not belong on a 40-man roster. They all are pretty bad. Sox just don't need the space right now and that is the reason they still are on it. Cleto, I think they are just praying he figures it out because that arm is rare.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) The 40 man roster is also full. There's quite a bit of dead weight on the 40-man right now.

Does DSL not have fences or something?
maggsmaggs replied to QuickJones81's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) I don't pay attention to high school. Do you see the same disparity between offense and pitching there? Almost all high school leagues use metal bats whereas in the Domincan League, they use wood bats (almost positive of this). For teenagers, you would really have to get ahold of one to hit it out of a field with 300-plus foot fences. -
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) I'm tired of this bulls***. This team aint doing crap. Bring up the kids and get a good draft pick. Wilkins, Sanchez, and Semien are ready. Bring these guys up and see what we got in them. Ravelo needs to move up to AAA too. I don't care about the Paulie farewell tour. We really need to see what Wilkins can do. I definitely agree with Wilkins and Semien, Sanchez I feel could still benefit from more AAA seasoning, as he is still really young. Semien would produce equally if not better than Beckham. Wilkins would probably struggle, but you have to see if he can be an MLB bat because of how valuable his contract would be, especially with the Sox HUGE need in the rotation. I think Hahn is still holding out hope that someone will make a waiver deal for Dunn/Beckham down the stretch and he wants both of them to keep getting ABs to get a hot streak going.
