QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 31, 2015 -> 07:16 AM) Whether you show up or not, there are seats somewhere in the park that you have paid for. Just the same as anybody else who buys tickets but doesn't show up. The description on the Sox website says: So if you do not accept, I do not think you count in the same way as a regular season ticket holder who just chooses not to attend a game.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 31, 2015 -> 07:04 AM) Brilliant marketing idea. Even if you only go to five games, you've still paid less than $10/ticket, but the Sox get to count you as paid attendance for all 21 games, which bumps up the attendance figures. Didn't even think of that angle. But that is an interesting point. Would it really work that way? Don't you have to "accept" tickets for the game with this app? So if you don't "accept," I am not sure you count as attending. But I really have no idea.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/115524806/ha...-things-to-come That kid's stuff is nasty. As I was watching, I kept thinking "why is he throwing so many breaking balls, he is going to need a change-up" and wham, he threw a sick change-up to a lefty. He has one of those rare, 12-to-6 overhand curve balls. Really impressive to see. But hopefully he starts throwing more change-ups because I saw that breaking pitch about 75% of the time as his go-to pitch.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) Sanchez is young enough with enough upside that he needs to be playing everyday in order to develop. If he doesn't earn the starting 2B job with the Sox then he needs to be starting at SS/2B at Charlotte. Beckham is as good or better than what most teams have as their utility infielder. We just have a hard time seeing it that way because he underperformed so much as a starter. See, that is where I disagree about Sanchez and his future. I think he will max out as a solid utility player, nothing more. But if you believe he can be more than that, then you are definitely right he should be playing every day in the minors. I just don't see much from Sanchez. He is not a great SS, passable, but not great. Has no power whatsoever. He's not particularly fast. He has a decent eye at the plate and his best position is 2B.
-
I'd rather see Carlos Sanchez on the roster than Gordon Beckham. I seriously just don't understand why he is here? He cannot hit. His defense is greatly overrated at second base. He hasn't played 3B or SS consistently since college/rookie year. In fact, he looked bad at those positions last year with the Angels. Let Sanchez make the roster as a second utility infielder over the guy who has proven year after year, he is not a good baseball player.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Coming off of TJ surgery, that is impossible to know with Aiken. You can hope he is the best player, but you can't know for sure how he will take after the surgery. Exactly. While some pitchers are better after TJ, some aren't. If Brady Aiken has a smaller UCL, maybe that makes complications from TJ more realistic, or all the more likely that he has to get it again. His injury risk is definitely part of the equation when deciding to take him.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) I've liked everything I've seen from Rodon, however, I think when he goes to the minors he needs to really focus on throwing his fastball, change and cutter and go a handful of games without throwing more than X sliders (or even throwing the slider at all). It is the development of those other pitches (in addition to the obvious things like health) which will be the driver in whether he can reach his ceiling or not (and that ceiling is very high). Prior to yesterday's start, everyone seemed to think he needed to be in Charlotte for at least a couple months to work on his command and change-up. I don't see how one start, albeit a terrific one against the Royals A-Team, should change that. He had his slider working and that is why he was successful. He still needs to work on that change-up and overall command. The media got a little too crazy with one great start which was just four innings.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) No bears out here (Denver). Elk are probably the most dangerous animal I'll run into unless I push much deeper into the mountains. But I've been hiking forever, so that other stuff is standard practice (I've never carried bear spray and been pretty close - like within 30 feet - to grizzlies backpacking in Montana). No music when I run outside (99% of the time). I was asking more along the lines of gear - picking trail shoes, hydration systems, that kind of thing. In terms of shoes, go get specifically measured and fitted at a local running store. Then you can either buy them there (if you want to support local businesses) or buy them online cheaper (at Amazon.com, RunningWarehouse.com, SierraTradingPost.com, etc.) I go the cheaper route, well because I am cheap. Hydration packs depend on your goals. If you want it primarily for hiking, then you get a bigger one with more compartments. If you want it primarily for running, get a lighter one that will not be as cumbersome when running the trails. Gear is kind of overrated, but the most important piece of gears for trail running are: shoes, socks and depending on when you are going to be running, lights/reflectors.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) For someone who gets on his soap box about racism, and sexual discrimination, and the like... he's a much more sexist than you'd think. That's my biggest gripe with it all. Bernstein acts that he is holier than thou without sin. And here he is objectifying women.

Germanwings (Lufthansa) plane crashes into Alps

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 07:01 AM) Press conference going on right now, it looks like the co-pilot purposely crashed the plane, some scary stuff. (from breakingnews.com) I was watching part of the press conference and a lot of journalists were trying to get the religion of the co-pilot, obviously wanting to see if he was Muslim. As if only Muslims people are capable of being deranged... -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Illinois ace Junior LHP Kevin Duchene is having a great season so far. 2-1, 20IP, 0.90 ERA, 14 H, 2ER, 1BB, 24Ks, .189 opponent average. I want the Sox to grab him so bad. And yet, most scouts (at least based on various rankings I have seen) seem to think Tyler Jay is the best prospect on that team, though he pitches in relief, which I dont quite understand. Regardless, their top four starters all have ERAs under 2.00. That staff is just terrific.

What's nice about condos is oftentimes you can force a reluctant owner to sell his or her condo if you have a majority of owners on your side.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) It's a non curable STD. I feel bad for her. We all take a risks with sex in this promiscuous ass world. I'm going home next week and if I run into this guy he's pretty much done for. Well, if that is the case, it is a much more serious issue in which you would be wise to speak to a personal injury attorney. Most consultations are free and most you pay nothing unless they win the case, which is generally 33% of the judgment/settlement. The financial situation of the guy is also a key factor in determining whether or not someone will take the case. But this goes without saying, don't stoop to this guy's level and get yourself into trouble for criminal battery/assault or worse.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) I'm just asking but are you a lawyer? No I'm not asking for myself, I'm asking for my sister. I might need a criminal defense lawyer at some point myself. I am an attorney, but do corporate/real estate, not litigation. Another problem is whether the lawsuit is worth the time and energy. Obviously, litigation is expensive and if the STD is curable then the damages might not be big enough to even warrant a lawsuit. It would be tough to convince a good attorney to take a case in which he or she might spend a good chunk of time only to have a judgment or settlement of say $1000. His or her cut would generally be about 33% of that, so only $333. There are just a lot of variables with the situation presented.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 02:39 AM) If you have consensual sex with someone and they do not disclose they have an STD, do you have grounds for civil negligence? Maybe. Was the person wearing protection? If the person with the STD took steps to not spread the disease, then maybe not, because they wouldn't be negligent. If no protection was involved, then there probably is a cause for negligence. Some states also have statutes on point. There's also damages issues. If you do not get the STD, you may not have true damages, although you might have mental pain/suffering, thinking you did have an STD. I hope you are asking for a friend...

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 01:32 AM) Don't forget Schwarber is #19. Baseball America is slurping Cubbie Kool-aid HEAVY. I'd get the Scwarber love if were going to stick at catcher, but there is no way he is going to be a long-term catcher. Now that more and more services are coming out with prospect rankings, I would be curious to see who has been the most accurate among KLaw, Baseball Prospectus, MLB.com, Baseball America, etc.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 14, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Very interesting list. Disagree with a lot of it but they work really hard at Baseball America. They also listed Catcher Brett Austin at #31 and don't mention Nolan Sanburn in the book at all. Which is weird. White Sox listed as the #20 farm system in baseball. All I know about farm system rankings is too disregard them. I am still waiting for the Sox to get more than four good years' combined from that No. 1-ranked system in 2001.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) 24 teams didn't think Mike Trout was worth a first round pick. The Yankees gave up their first round pick, the one that turned into Trout, for Teixeira. How do you pick out the next Mike Trout with certainty? That's not true. 24 teams though the players they selected were more worthy of a first-round pick than Trout. But that's not to say those teams did not value him as a first-round pick altogether.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 07:36 AM) Because Tom Ricketts has accomplished nothing during his brief ownership of Cubs. On top of that, attendance has decreased significantly since he acquired the team. Why is he talking s*** exactly? Until the Cubs become competitive, he should avoid taking cheap shots at other teams. I think there is a difference between "talking s***" and making a spontaneous, innocuous joke, which is the case here. He did not go on and on about the White Sox. He made one little joke.
-
My question is why are Sox fans offended? Ricketts was talking at Cubs Convention with Cubs fans and made a joke. First of all, the attendance problem is real and true. Second, it's an innocuous joke. Sox fans would get a similar kick out of a joke told by KW at the Cubs expense if the circumstances were similar.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) Make some room J4L I'm jumping on "the Warriors are the best team in basketball" bandwagon. And look at the age of their five leading scorers: Curry (26), Thompson (24), Green (24), Speights (27) and Barnes (22). They are gonna be good for a LONG time.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
maggsmaggs replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
