When Does Flowers Get Replaced As Everyday Catcher?
maggsmaggs replied to Feeky Magee's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When he is not the best option we have. He sucks at hitting, but he can handle a pitching staff. Meanwhile, Phegley sucks at hitting (at least at the majors), can't play defense and does not handle a pitching staff well by all accounts. Nieto is just not that good right now. He obviously wouldn't be in the Majors but for being a Rule 5 Draft Pick. Smith needs to continue to hit at AA and then repeat at AAA. Flowers is still the Sox system's tallest midget. It's pretty well known that Hahn does not like any of his options. And it is the position where he is trying to upgrade the most. He wanted Castro from Houston. And I guarantee he is looking all over. But good catchers don't grow on trees. -
This really should not be a shock. Anderson oozes potential, but his lack of defense and poor K-to-BB rate will cause him to drop in many eyes. Everyone else in our system has major flaws. Rodon no doubt would be there, if eligible.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) After seeing Lebron shut down Rose a few years back I think it's possible he could play the 2. LeBron can legit play any position on the court with the exception of center. Although he is strong enough and athletic enough where he probably could play center against an undersized center.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) That is both hysterical and awesome. ESPN's WAR is notoriously flawed. Fangraphs is much better and Petrick has a 0.4 WAR according to it. He has been solid this year, but his peripherals are not great.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) He is past that now. He is not gonna be in the league this year It amazes me that guys continue to refuse to get help and sacrifice millions upon millions of dollars. Two of the most talented WRs in recent memory (Blackmon and Gordon) and neither of them will be suiting up on Sundays this year. Who knows? Maybe never again. -
The Sox would love to get rid of Danks's contract. Decent-upside, A-ball players is all that is that would be needed. Danks is nothing more than a fourth starter with a bad contract.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) Pau was offered the MLE from the Thunder......That seems awfully low. I didn't really want Pau because I thought he'd be getting ~10M. At the MLE I'd love to have him. At that price, he is definitely worth the price to be the primarily back-up to both Taj and Jo. The team would definitely be better, but still does not solve the main issue of wing scoring. Maybe McDermott can fill some of the void but you would definitely need another piece.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) Melo talked to Gasol about coming to NY (per WOJ). Melo + Pau is not good enough even in the East. Not even close. Gasol is not the same Gasol he was a couple years back. Melo can continue to enjoy early playoff exits. Bulls without Rose could probably beat them.

White Sox sign 4 on July 2 signing day

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) Picture of Nunez, if you are curious. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...346708667936769 Man, even though you know these kids sign young, you forget that most of them would just be finishing their freshman year of high school in the states. -
I think JR Smith would do fine here. Either he plays defense and we reap the rewards of his shooting 10-15 minutes per game or he does not play defense and he sits on the bench. We got productive seasons out of similarly inept defensive players (Nate, Marco) and JR probably has more skill than any of those guys.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) I don't really have a problem with LeBron. He's a douche but by athlete standards he is pretty harmless. I actually like LeBron. Even through "The Decision" which was admitted not the greatest way to announce his choice, he raised like $3 million for the Boys & Girls Club.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB 2h Favorites for top prospects: NYY (11), HOU (3) BOS (2), COL (2) CWS (2), SEA, TOR, TB, MIL, PHI, DET, MIN, KC, SD,NYM http://atmlb.com/1irBBzQ I would assume he is referring to Jhoandro Alfaro and Amado Nunez?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) The guy that is usually pretty accurate (although often late to the party) is KC Johnson. He tends to be careful what he leaks and it seems to be only well confirmed stuff. The fact that he mentioned Rose will be involved in the pitch today, should be weighed pretty heavily and is likely true. That means you have Rose, Noah, and Taj all there. He is the only guy who I trust. Granted, even KC can be used by teams for various purposes, but like you said, he is usually very careful what he puts out there. Friedell, I couldn't give two s***s what that idiot says.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) According to the NY Post, Melo thinks losing Taj in a sign and trade would be defeating the purpose. That I suppose is a solid sign that it is more than just money this go-around for Melo.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) Bolland just got 5 x 5.5 in Florida. Dear lord, that is a terrible deal. He isn't even worth that kind of money if he stayed healthy every year. But considering his major health issues, that is one of the worst contracts I have ever seen. Kane/Toews must love huge money being thrown out to mediocre players. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:10 AM) Cowley is reporting that barring a S&T, the Bulls pitch to Carmelo will be to take $15 million so that they can keep Taj. I have been pretty supportive of GarPax this offseason. They should be fired if keeping Taj Gibson impedes them landing Anthony. Why do we overrate players so bad? It's f***ing Taj Gibson. Who cares. Get Melo his $20 million and do whatever it takes. Figure out the rest later. I personally think Taj is underrated. He never received consistent minutes with Boozer here, but when Boozer was out and Taj started, he was nearly a 20/10 guy (granted he played a ton of minutes those games). Add that output to his elite defensive abilities and if starting, he is definitely a very valuable player. If I am the Bulls, I am trying everything in my power to add Melo while keeping Taj. If you add Melo, Taj's defensive versatility can really help compensate Melo's lack of defense.

Generally, I like Mulligan, but despite this being super picky, I cannot stand the way he asked questions. Instead of asking questions, he adds his commentary for about a minute and then ends with an infliction. It just is so annoying.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) Feder says that Boers is the highest paid Score on-air personality. Chew on that for a minute. That's clearly a legacy payment than current merit.
-
The Score is un-listenable with Rozner on the air. I really enjoy the Mac/Speigel show, unfortunately, the show is never on the air for enough consistent stretches. Chicago is seriously lacking in good sports radio. Boers is terrible. Jurko kills ESPN. And on and on.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) I don't see that as making much sense for either the Bulls or New York. Mirotic ought to be a guy you want to contribute right away and he's only going to sign for probably 3 years...if New York is doing something like circling Love or Durant on their FA calendar, they'd be eating Mirotic's useful, cheap years when they wouldn't be very good and they'd be hurting their cap room next offseason and the year after. They should be wanting draft picks. Mirotic >> Draft picks in the 20s.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Except for the fact that you can't look at minor league stats in a vacuum. It is a league and place you go to develop and often times that means you put certain statistical feats to the side to work on other things. I have no insight to what the Sox plans are and what they are working on but he might be working on other pitches in "strikeout" counts, etc. I'd be more focused on ground ball ratio, WHIP, OPP BAA. Oh and of course his stuff, which is pretty darn good. I just have a hard time buying that his stuff is pretty darn good when you look up at see more hits than innings pitched and less than 5 Ks/9 inning. I sincerely hope is just working on stuff because there is no hope for him becoming anything but a No. 4 or 5 if he can't miss bats.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) This answer is not acceptable and something must be determined right now! It's pretty clear, there is no right answer to this one. You could say Abreu and have legitimate reasons. You could say Rizzo and have legitimate reasons. It's not like we are debating who is better Sale or Samardzjia where it is clear Sale is better. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) It's great to watch, but bittersweet with the offense around him. I had Abreu with 26 homers in 140 games this year. He has 25 homers in 66 starts. He will definitely cool down the second half of the season. You have no reason to pitch to Jose with the bats behind him. If Dunn, Alexei or Viciedo get traded, it will be even worse.

Kane and Toews and their salary demands are gonna determine this franchise's future. If they ask for the moon, we simply won't be able to surround them with enough talent. -
QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) ....argument to be made that Anthony Rizzo is now the best first baseman in baseball. Seriously? http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/06/27/a...-other-bullets/ He's tied with Miguel Cabrera for the top WAR among first basemen. Considering he is not yet 25, there is a legit argument to be made for him. Now, he has to continue on this path and remain consistent, but he is young and terrific all-around. Now I think most people would still take Cabrera for this season and perhaps the next couple, but there is definitely an argument to be made.

The Bulls can scout and draft, that the front office's best attribute. I can't criticize a pick when they know a hell lot more about scouting than I do and have a great track record.
