  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) This help? http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/draftday/rules.jsp I've seen that, which I am guessing is the same that is contained in the actual rulebook. But, if at all possible, I am trying to locate the official rules as some sort of .pdf. Something that if I cite to it can be more official than just a website. Who knows, perhaps this is the best available. Appreciate the help though!
  2. Does anyone know where I can obtain the physical rulebook that includes the draft eligibility requirements? It is not in the CBA and as far as I can tell, it is located in the MLB Professional Rules which I cannot locate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) Jeff Hoffman - 6.89 K/9, 3.2 BB/9, 1.26 WHIP, 3.20 ERA am I missing something here? I don't care how talented you are, you have to pitch better than that for me to take you at 3. That K rate needs to be at 9 or better this season He was named the top prospect in the Cape Cod League last year, which of course has the best collection of talent of the summer leagues. (Sale also won this award). Sale's sophomore season at FGCU was: 7-4, 2.72 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 2.72 BB/9, and 10.48 K/9. I am not sure how the various league's compare, but beyond the Ks where Sale clearly wins, the numbers aren't too dissimilar. Actually Hoffman and Sale seem kinda similar in that, not recruited out of high school at all and then exploded in college. But you are right, right now, Hoffman's projections do not match his statistics. If he doesn't dominate this year, he will slide.
  4. https://twitter.com/dylanohernandez/status/...263278752899073 Not really a surprise if those were the final three because of the location and deep pockets. Hernandez, the Dodgers beat writer for the LA Times, also said this:
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 07:53 AM) Louis Nix, anyone? QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) Nix is a great talent, but that guy needs to get himself in better shape to make himself more valuable to teams. He has problems getting winded ^^^^ Nix is immense bust potential, perhaps more than most in the top of the draft. Already having knee issues + the body issue is a recipe for disaster. On the other hand, probably the best 3-4 DT in the draft, but it scares me to draft a guy who has injury issues already.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 09:50 PM) 16 Reasons You Should Be Rooting For The Seattle Seahawks To Win The Super Bowl…if your team didn’t make the playoffs. They also seem to have the most players suspended for banned substances.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) Marquess Wilson and Michael Bush are your guys next year. He doesn't need to be going after those two positions I think Bush gets cut. Ford probably battles a cheap veteran sign for the back-up RB position. Cutting Bush saves about $1.8 million.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) I share your pessimism. I don't believe we require the total restructuring though seeing the Saints turnaround the way they have. I think schematically Tucker does not know how to create pressure, and it exposed us in the passing game, but I think in general they aren't awful in pass protection. But it is a problem that where we need the most talent is where it costs the most money. We aren't really getting good production on a cheap contract anywhere beside Jeffrey and I'm hoping Long. So the key is obviously drafting Mizzou dlineman because they are effing NFL BEASTS. Kony Ealy would be a nice building block for the Bears D-Line.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) Fanspeak's On the Clock NFL Mock Draft Simulator I drafted for the Bears with them switching to a 3-4 Defense: Round 1: CJ Mosley, ILB, Alabama Round 2: Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU Round 3: EJ Gaines, CB, Missouri Round 4: Anthony Johnson, DT, LSU Round 5: De'Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon Round 6: Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois Round 6: Aaron Lynch, DE, South Florida That was really fun, ha. I was going all D until I saw Thomas in the 5th round still there. I think Hester goes this off-season, and Thomas can replace Hester as well as add multi-use speed burner on offense. And no way Jimmie Ward lasts until the sixth round.
  10. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) I am too. They've got their work cut out for them. As of now, I want Clinton-Dix. But if the Bears think Manziel or whoever is around at 14 can be really good two seasons from now they have to gobble him up. Clinton-Dix will probably not be good enough to will this team to the playoffs routinely, whereas a stud QB will. I still think they go defense at 14, but I won't be shocked if they draft a QB. We just gave near $50 million in guaranteed money to a QB, there ain't no way they are drafting a QB in round one.
  11. That scares me. More than the franchise tag number? Maybe 18M is not the cap hit though?
  12. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) I don't get it. They should only be talking to 3 players. Whom they think will be #1, #2 and #3. It's impossible that one of those guys won't be available, and you know, best available and whatnot. To even consider 3 other guys is a huge mistake. Best available, yada yada yada. This is part of the process in determining who is number 1, 2 and 3 on the Big Board. Besides Rondon, there really is no other consensus top three players. Various rankings have various orders.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) So in the end, the big market teams will continue to win. Good job, baseball. Yeah, I don't really see how this changes anything. Now, it's just the player that will be rewarded with an even more exorbitant contract because the posting fees will be lower.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 06:49 AM) Hudson isn't going to get just a million dollars on the open market. If Kazmir got $22 million for 2 years with his injury history, Hudson will see more, and it won't be from us. I hope you aren't talking about this year in free agency. He isn't even likely to pitch for most of 2014. No one is going to give him near Kazmir money.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 29, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) http://kdvr.com/2013/11/29/couple-fined-35...e-may-be-legal/ I highly doubt that clause would hold up in court.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) So you think like I do that they should tear this roster down and hope you get lucky in the lottery. That would be really hard to do with the way the money has to match in the NBA with trades.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:07 AM) I don't want to be that fan, btw, but at what point do you start thinking about keeping McCown next season and letting Cutler walk? I'm not about to argue that McCown is actually a better player, but we're rapidly approaching salary cap hell and Cutler is likely to be really f***ing expensive. If Trestman is going to turn any ol' asshole into a starting caliber QB, how much do you want to invest in Cutler? I have to think it has at least crossed the minds of Emery and Trestman that maybe, just maybe, it could make sense to keep McCown, draft a QB high, and invest in the defense. Either way, I'd really hesitate investing in Cutler long term. Franchise tag seems like the smartest way to keep him. It's not a terrible idea. No one is doubting that Cutler is the superior talent and probably better overall QB (I say probably because what Jay does to help you, he also can hurt you whereas McCown is simply not turning the ball over right now). The question is are the Bears better off as a team with McCown as the starter next year with a top-three-round QB as second string and that Cutler money going to fill many defensive needs? Or are the Bears better with Jay as the starting QB to the detriment of the other needs? Right now, I am not sure. All I know is that the $20 million that would go to Cutler would pay two or three really solid starters on defense.
  18. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) In a market where Ervin Santana is worth $100 million, you would think Santiago would have value. Given our holes, I would be shocked if he's back. There is that school of thought or that Santiago should be kept because of his value relative to salary.
  19. I think we just need to get used to having a lower payroll. When KW was GM, he would put almost all available money into the MLB roster at the expense of draft spending and international spending. Now with Hahn as GM, who values the farm system much more, we are going to be spending the max allotment each and every year we can on the draft pool and international free agent pool. I expect this approach will reap benefits major for our franchise. A stronger system means that you can have younger, cheaper talent on the roster. Essentially you can have the value of a $100 million payroll for $80 million.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 07:37 AM) If it is behind a paywall, he can't copy it. He can highlight it and/or summarize it. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) There's always a way to copy it. Southsider knows he CAN copy it, but that he shouldn't.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) The new DePaul arena in the south Loop, if it is built, is an Archer bus ride from Curie. I grew up by Curie high school, odd part of Chicago, BTW. Don't kid yourself if DePaul uses that location correctly it could get them better players especially from the south and west side. It hasn't worked for UIC but I do not think they really want it to work there. I am not really sure that is the best thing for those kids either. DePaul is a sleeping giant for hoops, but they need the right coach. And Oliver Purnell is definitely not it. He was a solid coach at Clemson, but DePaul needs a Chicago guy as its coach. If DePaul wants to wake up and start getting these Chicago kids to come play there, they need a Chicago guy as the head coach. Honestly, the coach could probably suck as an Xs and Os guy, but if the guy can recruit Chicago, they will be a NCAA Tournament team on talent alone. And that is what they need at the moment. A guy who can come in and bring in the Chicago talent.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 10:56 AM) Also: Taylor Rooks Sports @ImTaylorRooks Speaking with Cliff Alexander now about the "choosing between Illinois and DePaul" rumor. Says that it is "not true." @humblekid11 He also said the no unofficial visit to MSU rumor wasn't true....and then he didn't make an unofficial visit and dropped MSU from his list. After every rumors about Big Cliff, Rooks is super quick to get Cliff's reaction. It's actually hilarious at times.
  23. http://www.faketeams.com/2013/10/31/503792...ns-erik-johnson Sometimes it's nice, even if meaningless because it seems clear you can't predict anything with minor leaguers, to read some more positive news about our guys.
  24. Beckham's WAR by season: 1.8, 0.4, 1.0, 0.3 and 0.8. He is extremely replaceable. I cannot imagine someone so into advanced metrics such as Hahn would covet Beckham so much. Clearly, just saying that to not lose leverage.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gi...ox&sid=l119 D-backs should trade for Mitchell. He plays his best baseball in that state. 11 to 4 BB to K ratio in the Fall League thus far (including today's game). Small sample, but encouraging.
