  1. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) Im pretty sure that either way they pass through waivers.. If that is the case, it is a little surprising (perhaps a little alarming) that Meriweather wasn't claimed by anyone. . . . hmmm.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) That would mean the bears never had a shot, right? Assuming the waiver wire still follows 2010 W/L record, I would guess so. I guess the difference between Butler and Meriweather was that one was "waived" while the other was "cut?" Placing one on the waiver wire while granting the other Free Agency?
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) I'm not sure I would put Hester in our top pairing, maybe not even top 3 at WR. I just wish he would return kicks and punts and stand in the slot like he is supposed to. The best WR on this team right now is Earl Bennett, followed by Knox, Williams and Hester. In that order. Things could change, however, that's how it looks to me as of the start of the season.
  4. Pats just cut Darius Butler. Bears need to be all other that ASAP. We need the depth at CB.
  5. Glad to see Phil pitching well today. Hope he makes some paper next year from someone. He's pitched well for the great majority of the year.
  6. Can we petition the MLB to give some of Rios' money to De Aza. Dude has been playing great since his call-up.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) It wasn't talent or ability that got Brandon Meriweather cut. Solid move there. Meriweather and Harris is the best starting Safety combo we've had since Mike Brown and Harris in the 06 season. I really hope they do right by Chris Harris and sign him to a new deal. He's one of the leaders on this team and deserves new paper. He's also a good follow on twitter.
  8. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) Brandon Meriweather Hello Special Teams for Major Wright?
  9. This argument has been brewing all week. Props to Speigel for having the cojones to stand up to this douche. It's seems so blatantly obvious that Cowley has whored himself out to Ozzie and his family. The man has no objectivity left and shouldn't cover the team. He's an embarrassment to the suntimes and reporting as a whole.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 08:21 AM) I'd assume this will go something like the last one...Briggs and Co will go out seeking a trade if given permission and discover that they've massively overestimated his value and no one will offer him the kind of new deal he wants. I can't imagine Rosenhaus things Briggs has any leverage. He's a smart guy and the writing is on the wall: Briggs turns 31 in November and any team that trades for him will be essentially promising him a substantial amount of guaranteed money. What could the Bears get for him in return? A 4th-5th round pick? The Bears don't have a lot of incentive to trade him and if he chooses to underperform, his value this upcoming offseason will take a bigger hit. Instead, I think this was a pretty desperate attempt by Drew and Lance (sound like 2/4 of a boy band) to scare the Bears into allowing Briggs to flip-flop the money promised to him in the last year of his deal with this year's salary (6.5 vs 3.9). Rosenhaus knows the Bears are $19 million under the cap and must spend that money by the end of the year. I don't think his client is going to get it. Lance is the perfect LB for this defense and I have loved watching him play, however, this act has gotten old.
  11. Love the hustle by Rios to get to that ball in short center, really chugging out there.
  12. Royals take a 1-0 lead in the 7th. Rios had a great pitch to hit and popped it right up. He sucks.
  13. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) Wait till Ozzie brings Greg Walker to Florida and Mike Stanton only hits 14 home runs next year. And Hanley Ramirez starts swining at pitches high and outside the strike zone.
  14. Listening to the Cowley interview now. I really don't understand how Cowley has a job. He should be fired from his performance today alone. Cannot comprehend a writer so vehemently investing in one side of the story. He's going to bash KW until the end because of personal feelings. Unreal.
  15. At this point I think both need to go. I don't trust Ozzie to keep his personal gripes separate from his managing and I don't trust Kenny to select another manager or develop a farm system, or trade for players that don't suck. We should probably clean house, or let Hahn take over and hire his own manager.
  16. One of the graphic wizzes on this board needs to make a "Dark Knights" banner for the stretch run. Batman motif. Do it.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) Flowers, to me, is still below average defensively and that K-rate is still way too high for him to sustain any kinda offensive consistency. Really? I've felt that Flowers looks better behind the plate than he has in previous call-ups. Besides a few balls that have gotten away, he's caught our pitching staff well, and has thrown out a somewhat respectable amount of runners. I think there is room for improvement, but I think his game has matured behind the plate as well.
  18. Gordon just lookin. . . at three very hittable pitches.
  19. According to @skjensen of the suntimes. Chances of Bears getting a draft pick in return before this news broke = Slim Now = None
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) I understand why people would want that. I will also note that the objection, which I at least quasi-endorse, is that the line has been playing together with this roster pretty much all of training camp. Adding in another guy who would be wanting to start at the end of camp would be a disruption of a group that at least for now is doing its job. It's a tough decision to make, do you sign ANOTHER center, who might provide you with the best line possible (Webb-Williams-Gurode-Garza-Carimi), or do you go with what you have because they have been playing together for the past 4-5 weeks and haven't played overly bad. Since the bears already spent 3 million on Spencer, I don't see them bringing in Gurode. I also don't see Mike Tice supporting a move that would disrupt the group he has been touting all preseason long.
