QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Bruce knows his stuff about the two teams in the city, and has good sources. It's when he tries and reports things outside of Chicago is when he gets sketchy. So basically we are approaching 50 minutes of the recent round of sour news coming out and nothing official. That's a sign to me that it's not officially dead. I think the second it's dead KW gets it out.

QUOTE (Sockin @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Bob Nightengale of USA Today says Peavy has been informed that he has been traded and it's up to him. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...res-peavy_N.htm It's odd that he doesn't acknlowedge the AL fear thing
-
Levine on ESPN 1000 in 10 minutes. Say what you want about him, atleast he's at the park, so he's in prime position to give a good report
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Agreed, unless he's traded to the Cubs in 2 months and acts like he's the happiest person in the world. yeah, but i've seen 3-4 sources in the last 5 minutes that it's because he's afraid of the big bad AL, so the Sox hands were really tied if that's true, but bad move by the Pads to shop him to the AL without getting some better assurances from him. They signed him to the NTC, you have to dance with him if you're the Pads and have him involved early on in trade discussions
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) What the Cubs offered was trash though right, so they're not willing to just dump him for a salary dump and to please him. They've shown they will keep paying him until something works out for them player wise
-
QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) Score has Padres announcer on, and he doesn't think anything is imminent. Again he's citing the AL problem. well if multiple sources are saying the AL thing, to me, it's a real issue for him. I think the one glimmer of hope is that the Pads, Sox or Peavy's agent haven't come out and flat out said it's a dead deal.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Not to mention now teams are going to come in and low ball the Padres. If I'm San Diego, and Peavy really axed this deal (whatever it was), I don't trade him again to any team unless they get the same value, regardless of what Peavy tells them. They've kind of done that already, because if they were just willing to take average for him and dump his salary he would be on the Cubs already
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) This could get really ugly. If Peavy thinks another team from the NL is going to jump in and steal Peavy, he has another thing coming. This could get ugly, and the Sox can't do anything about it. The Pads are a great example of how NTC can hurt you, it seems Peavy is flexing his and Giles already flexed his. This is a team that has two contracts they wanted out of town and they're on their roster
-
again, it could be negotiating tactics on his agents behalf, basically, pick up the option or he won't OK it... however, even if the Sox say no, I could see a possability that his agent goes to Peavy and tells him it's still a good position and if you're waiting on another team, it may never happen
-
ESPN radio still not putting the SD newspaper report in their update and just saying they're waiting on Peavy
-
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Huh? Soriano signed after the 2006 season. The Sox would've ended up with two draft picks. Who knows what would've happened if they had him in left for the rest of the 2006 season. I'm way late, but can anyone confirm that Peavy's framed jersey was taken down at Petco? Ah, OK, I wasn't sure of the Soriano timeline
-
They have Ozzie quotes saying he's asking his family, so at this point if it doesn't happen, to me, it's just spin
-
QUOTE (DABearSoX @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) so is the deal officially dead? or is it b/c that SD newspaper article It's not "official" but nothing has been official. There's the article and Peavy's agent kind of downplaying it, but there's no real firm time on when the agents comments came out
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) I disagree, i think jake killed it and to save his face in the media and so the Pad's can continue to field serious offers, they are saying it never got to him. Makes alot of sense actually. probably right, the last thing the Pads need is in July teams not entering serious negotiations with them about Peavy because of fear of him flinching and them losing out. Well, hopefully it was a full AL thing and not just the Sox... It's good to see the org is still being very active though, that bodes well for July and the offseason
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) It could be that they just don't want it out there they had a deal and Peavy killed it. This is a Groundhog Day version of the Soriano to the White Sox talk in 2006 where it went from immiment to never really that close. wow, luckily I completely missed that talk, I would have gone ape if they got him and had to have that ridiculously bad contract. that contract was bad when the economy was good
-
his agent expressed doubt that he's ready to sign-off on the deal and he has a strong preferance to stay in the NL... unfortunately all signs are pointing to no
-
it's odd that ESPN 1000 haven't changed their updates and in the one 2 minutes ago didn't include the SD paper report that it's not going down and just said everyone is still waiting on Peavy
-
QUOTE (chiguy79 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) If Peavy was speaking to Linebrink last night this deal has to be imminent and it doesn't make any sense for the Sox to keep the offer on the table after he pitches tomorrow. I expect a yes/no by the end of the day. MLB teams have leaks all over the place, it could be someone approached him informally and gave him a heads up and he contacted Linebrink.
-
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) f*** PEAVY lol, well, the report makes it seem like it never got to the point he was approached to waive
-
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Get Cutler on the phone with him... Cutler can do anything. well, newest stuff seems like this is all a moot point and there's no deal. It seems that the teams never agreed to anything and Peavy was never formally approached
-
Update on ESPN 1000 says Peavy will likely start for the Pads tomorrow against the Cubs, not because he has rejected the deal, but because it hasn't gotten that far between the Sox and Pads and the Pads haven't formally asked Peavy to waive it yet... didn't catch the name, but said it's the guy who broke the story last night
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) 4 pitchers? That's madness, it'd wipe out our supply of pitching spects in one fell swoop. As long as Beckham and Flowers aren't involved (they wouldn't want Allen anyway) I'm good with this. If that happens, you would probably see 3 or all 4 of the Sox good picks be pitchers in the draft.
-
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) I want this done now....but I understand how he's taking some time to think about it. He's considering where he's going to live (and work) for the next several years. I just relocated at the beginning of the year and it took me nearly two weeks to make the decision and accept the offer. Lets hope it doesn't take that long....but if he really looks at all the good benefits of being a White Sox, I think he'll make the right decision in a day or two. also, it's only 9:30 on the WC, so if it was agreed to late last night and Peavy wants to check with a few people, it's not quite as late in the day
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) Do we know anything more about the package or is still Poreda and Richard + 2 PTBNL? I'm stuck here at work missing all the fun, it's driving me insane. That's what's being reported pretty much everywhere, haven't heard one guess at either of the PTBNL. OK, to sum up Linebrink on ESPN 1000... nothing much new... basically said Peavy told him he isn't afraid to pitch in the NL, from their conversation he doesn't think Ozzie is any issue at all, basically asked the type of questions a FA asks when shopping a team, and Peavy is a hunter who would fit in very well in the clubhouse. Said the 50/50 comment was based on not being able to get a read on him, not any reservations he got
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Wow, so this is for real? What's the latest update? Waiting on Peavy...
