  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) If you're wealthy, San Diego is arguably the nicest place in the country to live. I'm not sure on his relationship status or his morals, but I've been all around this country, and to me, San Diego has the most attrative women
  2. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Does anyone know any big names who exercised their no trade clause in the past? I am preparing for a major heart break and don't want to feel alone. Brian Giles to the Red Sox last year
  3. Linebrink on the Score right now... says he couldn't get a read on which way he's leaning yesterday and asked basic questions FAs ask when picking teams
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) As soon as the Cubs trade Aramis Ramirez to the Sox for Josh Fields and Aaron Poreda, they'll have the talent to do so. true, and that's the one reason I think this is taking awhile, although it is only 9:15 in CA, so it is earlier here and Peavy might want to double check with family, but back on track, I think he's talking with the Pads to see if it's the Sox or nothing for the foreseeable future or if there's other legit possabilities to a team he's indicated he was OK with in the past. If they say, no, nobody is really offering much and the Sox offer is better than everyones right now, he comes.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) I wonder if a Peavy deal would force the Cubs hand into making a move. Similar to how the Harden trade came a day after the Sabathia one. Hendry's a very reactionary GM. That was within the division as opposed to a team they play 6 times a year. It's rare for big trades to go down this early, so I'm not sure who they would get. However, if Peavy rejects coming to the Sox, I wouldn't be suprised if the Pads call the Cubs and try to finish that deal
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) I think I'll be fine whether or not this deal goes down. I'm kind of with you on this. I think it would be a good add, if it doesn't happen it's a good sign that the org and KW will continue to be agressive to improve this team. The worst part will be temporary and it will be Cubs fans saying how much the Sox suck and nobody wants to play here.
  7. just to update opinions in the media, they just played a clip on ESPN 1000 with Olney saying he'll think he'll reject it. He's expressed a desire to stay in the NL and doesn't think that will change... of course he tempered it with saying he could agree due to of being of tired of losing. I imagine he or his agent will talk to the Pads and ask them what other possabilities are there. If the Pads say they won't just give him away and the Sox package is good and other teams aren't close he'll come. Again, I feel he rejects it, it's taking too long to agree to it.
  8. Sorry if this is already posted, but the Score is saying one of Peavy's reservations might be playing for Ozzie. Supposedly he's talked with Linebrink who said it is a good place to play. Gut feeling he rejects it
  9. QUOTE (Baines3 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) I don't believe a word of the Peavy thing. It will never happen. yeah, it's fun, but with the only source a message board, I'll temper any excitement or anger
  10. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) KW just raised the talent in the minors to adequate in the last year. I can't see him draining 3 top 10 prospects for Peavy. That would undo all the work of the past year. Richard, Poreda, and 2 lower level guys. Beckham, Viciedo, Danks,Allen, Flowers, and probably Shelby won't be included in a deal that already has Richard and Poreda in it. BUt, then again, we are talking about Jake Peavy here. Maybe Broadway gets thrown in there. he has 4 good picks in 2 weeks
  11. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) Have you seen how hard C.J. hits a ball? After seeing him for a month, I'm thoroughly convinced he will be a major leaguer for a long, long time. I agree it's important to have a solid minor league system, it's an awesome thing when it clicks like with the Red Sox, however, the White Sox are a major market team with roughly 40m coming off the books next year. IMO they don't need to hold on to all their prospects, it's more important for them to be strong on internal scouting and know when a player may be overvalued on the open market.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:50 PM) I'm fairly sure the Dodgers can turn any piece of s*** player into an important piece. The Cardinals are the best at doing that
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) I'd strongly disagree with that assessment. as a blanket statement that eating well/healthy is expensive I totally agree with you that it's not expensive. Chicken breasts can be bought in bulk and frozen for cheap... turkey from the deli and wheat bread aren't very much... fruits and vegetables are reasonable... brown rice is dirt cheap... even supplementing a good protein drink 1-2 times a day isn't very expensive.
  14. Best of luck! I am just not a runner, I can handle the elptical enough to get good cardio in or go to Hackney's for some MMA training for a few months if I really need to drop.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) The question is to me....what is more believable... 1. The Sox are in a rebuilding year. 2. Sox think they are close enough that they would add a big money pitcher and send what could possibly be a big part of the future. hmm let me think about that. well, he's under a deal for a few more years, so it's not like he's walking at the end of the year, and I think if something like this goes down, the 4 picks in the draft have a lot to do with it, help reload.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) peavytalk.com lol, no kidding! I'm having fun with it, but I'm not going to get worked up either way until I hear a major source
  17. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) Peavy is good because he 1) Pitches in the NL 2) Pitches in the NL West 3) Pitches in Petco Park Bring him here and his ERA is gonna be about a point higher. Is that worth his contract and our prospects? 12/12/07: Signed three-year, $52 million extension w/2013 club option and limited NTC. 2009: $8 million club option w/$500,000 buyout, 2010: $15 million, 2011: $16 million, 2012: $17 million, 2013: $22 million club option w/$4 million buyout, 2014: Free Agent ERA + is ballpark/league adjusted, and he's a career 120. Now, he has a 103 this year, which isn't very good, but I believe that's on the upswing. Don't forget, as long as he isn't a heavy fly ball pitcher, the opponents pitcher pitches the same game in the Cell too.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) It would but I wouldn't rule it out. Remember KW told Gio to his face (and gave him his word) he wouldn't trade him again, then look what happened. It's a buisness. Don't wanna go too far on this speculation though. I'm a big Danks2 fan, he's really improving (cut down his K rate, taking walks, hitting solid shots etc.) But other than Slayer (which I'd really hate) and Flowers (sox brass are insanely high on him; also to note I doubt SD would want Allen since they have a 1B spect) everyone else is up. I'll be sad though if they break up the Dominion boys. All in all... I highly doubt were getting Peavy. Anyone check out his home/road splits? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...=Career&t=p About a run higher on the road, but he always has a good K/9 ratio which is important. Anyone see the gb/fb ratio, that's what's really imporant if you're coming to the Cell as your home park
  19. anyone else reporting this or is it just the link from the mlb message board? I assume since traffic hasn't gone off the charts here it's just from the board. Too bad this isn't happening in the day, it's hysterical to monitor the the Score and AM 1000 when they try to beat each other to confirming it as true or false. The wording is the most circulative stuff you'll hear.
  20. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Top 5 cities where Americans are relocating: 1. Raleigh, N.C. 2. Austin, Texas 3. Charlotte, N.C. 4. Phoenix 5. Dallas What going on in NC? That's where Ric Flair is and all the women want to go down and ride Space Mountain... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
  21. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) I would also hope it wouldn't include Jordan Danks. If Poreda is involved and Slayer or Jor Danks that would be 2+ prospects when all the packages last year didn't have one in it
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) So Verlander has suddenly become 2001 Randy Johnson. His K/9 has to be something like 13 in his last 4 or 5 starts. This after never registering a K/9 over 8.17 in 2007 (not that that's bad) and average K rates in 2006 and last year. Performance enhancing drugs anyone? I don't think that's the case. But it just goes to show you the double standard there is. If a position player belts belts 10 HR's in 20 games he's automatically suspected of cheating. outside of Gagne, barely any of the doinant relievers get questions.
  23. QUOTE (tommy @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) First Maddon, now Cooper, what are these guys thinking about? So Yanks went back to back to back, but only Melky sent one really deep, the other two, well.. 71 HR in 19 games in the new stadium. That's a lot. and I've heard they're afraid when they take down the old stadium it's going to be worse! Uncle Bud is going to have to step in if this keeps up and force them to put up wind screens or whatever is necessary, it's not in the best interest of baseball to have this going on
  24. I don't think this will happen, but if it does Poreda alone is better than any of the packages the Cubs were offering and Richards in that park would be solid for them. Again, i just don't see this one going down, but I do see a big KW move coming soon, the dropping of payroll, an already improved farm system and 4 quality picks in this draft tell me KW won't sit around
  25. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) You can't trade someone who was drafted and signed less than a year ago. I believe they can be the PTBNL after that deadline hits
