This is when The State redid the outakes, it's hysterical.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) Who would have guessed that a quality hitter in the AL would excel in the NL?? Thankfully, the Cubs didn't sign Ibanez and went after the nutcase/injury plagued Bradley. Or just deal with his iffy defense and sign Dunn. Actually Abeu, Dunn and Ibanez all would have made a ton more sense for the Cubs. The fans and media who protect Hendry are saying he struck early and couldn't have predicted the way contracts would have went, which I say BS to, part of being a good GM is projecting the market, which he failed horribly at.
-
I don't blame him for taking the baseball money at all either, when he opted what was his football projection, 2nd round or I believe at least later 1st round where the guaranteed money drops after the top 10 or 15. I heard a mixed bag when the Cubs drafted him, a few outlets I remember saying it was way high too high. To me it had all the earmarks of a Cubs move, a Notre Dame name guy they can sell to their fans.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I've seen enough of Lance Broadway to last a lifetime. I certainly don't have the trained eye of a pro scout, but what the hell could anybody have seen in this guy to take him with your one and only first-round pick? It's going to take a while to undo the damage that wasting back-to-back first-round picks on him and McCulloch have done to our farm. hopefully the 4 picks this year help, especially if they take a major run at a signability guy who fell

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) Jeff Weaver starting for the Dodgers tonight. solid start, I believe it was 1 run in 5 innings.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) Ramirez and Getz struck out four times in the last three innings while Nix and Betemit sat on the bench. He did not pinch hit once for hitters that looked lost up there. right, I understand giving them an opportunity but after numerous failings you have to try something different
-
or pinch hit Betemit at some point to see if he could drive the ball to the OF

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) This is the key here. He's a stupid baseball player. Yes, but according to many people on this board it isn't the hitting coaches job to do anything. The thing that drove me insane about tonights game was Ozzie doing absolutely nothing creative when Getz and Pods were up later in the game. According to Hawk all Ozzie b****ed about was not having any options off the bench or speed. He could have done multiple things like pinch run or hit lilibridge for a bunt or have Getz or Pods try a bunt, but instead he just let them flail away at the ball.

Marshall ended up going 7 and giving up 5 ERs, thanks to a little help from the Cubs pen.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ May 5, 2009 -> 06:40 AM) That's great news. I saw that collision and it was horrible. Yeah, it's freaky how his neck kind of just stiffens a little too much instead of rolling

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 4, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) LINK I like Joel McHale so I will be interested in that show... wonder if he's leaving The Soup
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) That's why he couldn't get a job with the Royals, or a major league offer from anyone during spring training. The dude is a glorified pinch runner. We just had one of them. he's not even that with the Cubs, he just eats a roster space. This week they pinch ran Zambrano instead of him.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 2, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) Nolan Ryan is about a half step above Randy Johnson. Both excellent pitchers, but I respectively disagree and would take Randy Nolan Ryan led the league in: GS=0 CG=1 Shutouts=3 IP=1 Strikeouts=11 ERA+=2 CERA=4 OAV=12 WS=0 Randy Johnson: GS=3 CG=4 Shutouts=2 IP=2 Strikeouts=9 ERA+=6 CERA=2 OAV=5 WS=4 CERA=Component ERA
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) Yes. He had 8 years where his ERA was below the league average (ERA+ of less than 100) and only 7 where he was a very good starting pitcher (ERA+ of 120+). He was a very good starting pitcher that pitched forever, but that doesn't mean he was an absolute stud. I'd also say that Bert Blyleven was a superior pitcher to Ryan. Blyleven led the league in: GS=1 CG=1 Shutouts=3 IP=2 Strikeouts=1 ERA+=1 CERA=1 OAV=0 WS=1 Nolan Ryan led the league in: GS=0 CG=1 Shutouts=3 IP=1 Strikeouts=11 ERA+=2 CERA=4 OAV=12 WS=0 The one area Blyleven dominates in is walks allowed. So they are a little more even than I thought they would be.

Great News For Canseco Haters
SoxFan562004 replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) Jose Canseco is going to be competing in an open weight GP for Japanese mixed martial arts organization Dream on May 26. It'll be on HDNet if you'd like to see him get his ass beat severely. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...5&zoneid=13 His opponent is Korean Choi Hong-Man who is this gigantic 7 foot kickboxer who pretty much sucks as a legitimate HW fighter but is very capable of delivering a serious beatdown on Jose Canseco. Knowing it is Japan, a work cannot be out of the question, but I doubt that will be the case considering the amount of US interest this should draw. Choi actually rocked Fedor briefly so if you know who that is, you can just imagine what he's going to do to Canseco... HMC actually can hold his own in kickbox under K-1 rules, so unless Jose has vicious Jiu Jitsu, he could get hurt -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 07:24 AM) Baseball Tonight was pretty heavy on the Ryan/ Clemens comparisons. I had to shut it off. Yes, I accidently switched it on for about 30 seconds and Steve Phillips copared Joba to a prime Clemens during last nights start... yes, a prime Clemens often went 5 and a 3rd inning with 2.438 WHIP. The MLB Network has made it so much fun to be a baseball fan where we have an alternative to BBTN. Does Skynet knob Man U this much in Europe? FWIW coming into this year I would say the best pitchers in the game are Johan and Doc.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) It's not even May yet. They could have waited a day. I agree it's early, but I think he got a free pass with the Bradley deal when it happened. There should have been articles questioning it. Look at how few games he plays every year, the one time he played over 140 he was basically average and then look how few he's ever played in the field. Especially after Abreu's and Dunn's contracts it is even worse of a deal. Now the thing people will use to defend him with the Abreu and Dunn contracts are that they were so much later, but part of being a GM is seeing where the market is going, which he clearly did not do.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) If I lack fervor in this post, I apologize. I had typed out a concise response and then my computer decided to freeze. Anyway, I may not have gotten my point across about the Swisher trade and the latest talk of it. My point was that I found it confounding that there was remorsefulness out there in regards to trading Swisher when before he started tearing it up with Yankees the consensus was good riddance. I'm not terribly excited about Pods, but I think he gives us a better chance at the plate. As far as his defense, well we'll have to wait and see. oh there may have been a consensus that if was good riddance but there were PLENTY of us on here who were pissed that he got moved.

best news is it sounds like Getz will be back Friday

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) I wish they would get Peavy and a healthy Hoffman. it's a small sample, but September of last year and this year haven't been anything great. Again, it's a small sample size so it could be just a blip, but I imagine if the Pads put him on the market again scouts will scrutinize him heavily and look for red flags

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) I hated our consumer economics class because the teacher was clearly assigned to teach it and had no idea what she was talking about. I lucked out and had a good teacher and actually learned a few things in that class.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 06:45 AM) Well for one I think Forest is better than Machida and Shogun and he beat Rampage, so that pretty much puts him in the top3. Im sure if Silva beats Forrest, his next match will either be st pierre or winner of Evans/Machida or Rampage. It could also be a test for future fights for Anderson. After this Anderson will have 3 fights left on his contract and he has constantly said he's done after this contract. The UFC can make markatable matchups for him against 205ers or HWs in the last three or keep him in 185 and defend the belt. Okami is in line, they may push Akiyama pretty quickly, if Kang reels off 3-4 wins he could be a good style matchup, Bisping, Hendo rematch, etc... Now the question is is Anderson serious or did he just start renegotiation tactics very early. Also, don't expect the UFC to strip him of the MW belt anytime soon because of the "Champion's Clause" in their contract which basically says if you're a champion in the UFC and the fights on your contract lapse, your contract rolls over as long as you're still champ. They do this so a champ doesn't walk to Affliction or Strikeforce as the champion. (They got burned by it once and I think it was when Zuffa bought the UFC, I believe it was Pulver or Penn). Of course the UFC can never force anyone to fight, but they have an argument that they can prevent them fighting elsewhere. There are a few reasons I think they put him with Forrest. First, it's an extremely marketable fight due to Forrest's popularity. Forrest should engage Silva and push the fight. Forrest is a huge 205er, many people don't realize this, but he is a large dude who cuts a decent amount, so it could gauge how Anderson may matchup against lighter HW fighters or if they want to give Chuck one more fight, have him fight Anderson at HW. I like the fight. I think Forrest is extremely underrated by many people. It should make for a very entertaining fight.

J.C. Romero sues supplement manufacturer
SoxFan562004 replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Nutritional supplements are not FDA regulated. They do not have to list what is in their product. Most do as a promotional gimmick. There is alot of stuff in the supplements that is not listed. For example, one of the main ingredients in ginseng is alcohol but you won't find it listed in the ingedients. There is a list of MLB approved supplements. The players stray from it at their own risk. It's also pretty well known that those supplements were dirty, it was a risk he took. -

4/28/09 Mariners @ White Sox - Game 1, WGN

Farmer said Jenks is warming up, I'm not sure, I think I would lean towards leaving Thorton in there and hopefully only burn one BP arm in the first game of the DH
