  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Well, we are 2nd/3rd/4th in winning percentage over pretty much any time period from 1990 until present...trailing only Braves, Yankees and Red Sox depending on which specific time period you're looking at. So we do a few things right. And we've been okay against lefties this year, with some pretty pathetic looking line-ups. I agree, the Sox have been a well run org, but there's no denying when a new pitcher they've never seen pitches they get dominated a vast majority of the time.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) is the 2nd game also on WGN? CSN+ and it can't begin before 7
  3. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) Advanced scouting reports. I think you're right, both with hitting and pitching. Either the White Sox don't provide quality ones or the players ignore them
  4. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) How exactly do other teams handle these crappy pitchers. Someone is putting a beating on them. yeah Sox are weird about that, they actually handle some very good pitchers well, although Lillibridge (sp?) and Owens are basically automatic outs

  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) Well, someone had to bump this thread to make a point, I guess I'll do it. Mods should just rename this thread "Overreact to 4/5th starters starts here"
  7. QUOTE (SoIL @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) The first game is on WGN and the second on either Comcast or Comcast + WGN ran a promo for the first game on the midday news
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Matt Vasgersian displays a complete lack of tact: I love the MLB Network and it blows away BBTN, but the one complaint I have is with their live updates/cut-ins. They constantly have wrong names or are confused to what is going on and there's been some other bad ad-lib attempts. Now this is obviously an extreme example, but if there's one complaint that they can tighten up is their live cuts and updates.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) It's kind of like South Park to me though that show can still churn out a decent episode here and there. The first 6 seasons were simply incredible but then the show began to change, much like with the Simpsons the animation got a lot better (don't know why this is a negative with me but it is, I can often tell a good Simpsons episode from a bad one right away just based on the animation), the subject matter was more graphic (at times it seemed like they were going for shock factor alone) and nearly all the episodes became parodies or based solely on real life events often lampooning a person in the news. I know Trey and Matt would often brag about the fact that they could start and finish an episode in 3 or 4 days. A story could break on Friday and they'd run an episode lampooning it by Wednesday. The Simpsons is just a different show today, completely unrecognizable from its heyday. Watch and episode from season 12 or 15 then an episode from season 4 or 7, same characters, entirely different show. I disagree with you on South Park I think it's had a solid run throughout even changing the feel of the show, but I can definitely see how it could turn off people, it's a completely different show now. You're right about the Simpsons being a different show today than it was in its prime.
  10. Papelbon a little shaky, but gets a pop up to end the game 3-1, winning run was at the plate
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Just about every episode in season 9 was excellent IMO. Season 10 is definitely where it began to waiver, a lot more celebrity voices and the episodes were more hit and miss. Season 11 is where the show went straight to hell, from then on out it became unwatchable. It's kind of sad, for the first 9 seasons it was about as good as it gets but around half of the show's run has been crap. It started getting bad when it became too self aware and preachy. It tried to get cutesy with stuff and it just didn't work.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) Season 9-season 10 was the beginning of the slow decline, IMO. OK, I'll have to go check it out, but that sounds about right.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) Today's Red Eye had Flight of the Conchords listed as a show that might not come back. I'm gonna have to respectively disagree with you on this one Sqwert, never really liked that show. Any other notable shows mentioned?
  14. Fox has been running some of the older Simpsons lately, and man it was a such a different and way better show. I don't hate the newer episodes, but they're nowhere near as good. Anyone have any season where it started to go? I'll have to take some time and look at episode guides, but when it started getting Lisa heavy it nose dived
  15. QUOTE (The Critic @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) I wonder if this was done to spice up their reality show? http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/2116.html Earlier today, we reported that Ric Flair's son Reid was arrested again over the weekend in North Carolina. Police records have now been released, revealing new details from the incident. According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department, Reid was arrested outside of the office of his father's former business, Ric Flair Finance. He was charged with four separate violations after being pulled over for drunk driving. Charlotte police pulled him over on Sunday afternoon at 2:48 PM and charged him with Driving While Impaired (DWI), Driving with a revoked license (revoked in March after a DUI), felony possession of heroin and a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. His bonds totaled $15,000. TMZ.com has also picked up on the story and was quick to mention that aside from Reid Flair's recent string of arrests, Ric Flair's daughter Ashley was also arrested last year for fighting with Ric and a police officer. While Ric did not press charges, Ashley was still charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Not sure how NC laws work, but in IL 2 DUIs that close mean jail if you're guilty, now add the heroin to that, although in IL on your first few drug charges you can get them reduced if you can prove you can get into rehab, with Flair's money I'm sure he can arrange that, but the 2 DUIs will be tough
  16. Cliff Lee 8 strong against Boston but Wood gives up a 3 run bomb to Bay in a 0-0 game in the top of the 9th
  17. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) The Bears also signed Northwestern WR Eric Peterman. They have scheduled tryouts with Mizzou backup QB Chase Patton and NCAA all-time percentage leader for kickers, Jeff Wolfert. Patton was an Elite 11 QB out of high school and is hoping to pull a Cassel. Wolfert doesn't have a big leg, but is consistent. Most people who evaluated prospects had him rated higher than Daniels. Wasn't something like Mizzou went to the new system and Daniels had run the spread in HS so he got the early nod and never relinquished it?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Doesn't really matter...what he ought to have done, and what every MLB player ought to do, is keep 2 or 3 samples sitting around from every bottle they take (they're making at least $400k a year, call it insurance). If you're taking something that should be clean, that you're told is clean, and that you have a bottle displaying ingredients not including any banned substances, and you do test positive, you're going to lose 1/3 of your season's salary, and thus having a sample to have tested could be worth up to several million dollars for you. it matters somewhat because, while it isn't criminal and the standard is lower for civil, if it goes to a jury trial the defense will argue it. We'll see what type of evidence they may try and present. That's a good idea for athletes to use, they just have to make sure they keep a good chain of evidence logged so it would be allowed in.
  19. http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/article/ma...ls-inside-75788 Matt Hardy out with broken hand, looked like he was going to get a push as a heel on Raw. Says four to six weeks
  20. QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) On the city of Chicago website you can type in license plate and it said that the car got towed and gave address of towing company..... when I went to pick i up we found the car just parked on 40th and Union. There was no ticket and there is to no ticket on city of Chicago website. Just weird that they towed it no charge / no ticket. It was parked on 33rd right by the highway where they add the extra lane during ball game and nobody allowed to park there 2 hours before / 1 hour after. I had my car towed off a city street once because I misread a snow sign, sign basically said no parking after 2 a.m. if over 2 inches of snow or until March 31st or something. I missed the thing about the date and parked since it was like 50 and there was no snow at all. Came back it was towed. Found out where it was and only had to pay the tow fee, I was not issued a ticket.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Bradley says he needs more time off to recover from the Groin injury...and says that the media is trying to make him "Snap". This is going to end up so awesome. It's only about 3 weeks into the season and it's starting to spiral. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bradlmi01.shtml The one year he played over 126 games he was only slightly above average. Not to mention I don't think he's ever played in over 100 games in the field, and the Cubs signed him to a 3 year deal in the NL with no DH. For the same money and one less year they could of had Dunn. I know Dunn sucks in the field but he plays all the time and he could have fit nicely in the 2nd hole for this team with his OBP
  22. they're the 4/5 starters, you're going to see good outings and bad outings
  23. yeah, Oz and Herm just pulled him without really looking at him or talking to him, so hopefully since it was 6-0 they weren't taking any chances
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Jim, Whats the feeling in Minny about the new stadium forcing changes to the way the team is constructed? Those turf hits arent going to be there anymore for the little slap hitters and they will have to start either grooming power guys, or buying them IMO. It has to worry fans that they are basically spending their way out of the largest home field advantage in the league. I'm interested in what Jim has to say about the fans feeling, but Hawk said on a broadcast or two that he talked to people within the org and they said they're not going to change their philosophy and just cut the grass short like Texas. Even Hawk, who is in love with the Minny org, mentioned that probably won't work do to the weather differences.
