  1. have to love Len Kasper and Brenley spinning Samardjza (sp?). Kasper ignoring his bad September last year in talking about his progress as a pitcher. I mean, if you want you can say he had pitched more than he ever had and he might of been tired, but to ignore it and basically say he's never really struggled in pro ball is silly. Then Brenley saying the Reds got a lucky hit to score two runs when it was hit nicely up the middle AFTER the Reds were robbed of a run by the vine rule.
  2. even with a loss still an OK trip, but a win would make it great
  3. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) The Pistons with Vinnie Johnson coming off the bench as instant offense "the microwave". exact role that Gordon would be perfect for, however I don't think he seems himself as that, or at least wants significant money to fill that role
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) The Yankees/A's game has been stuck on 7's for quite some time now. CC went 6.2 innings, 7 runs, 6 earned. Somewhat inconsistent from him so far, his ERA's sitting on 4.81. That's about his career ERA in April
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) we have to take the short term hit (next season) for the long term good... landing Lebron, DWade, or Bosh. Keeping Gordon long term (which I assume he wants) huts us. We will never win a title with a Rose/Gordon tandem. I think the most realistic on that list is Bosh. Maybe something this offseason then an extension
  6. Ben can contribute much to a team, but as many people have already pointed out the Bulls have tried to resign him for good money and he has turned it down. He is banking on having a crazy playoff run and some team signing him to a huge deal, which I just can't see happening.
  7. A huge problem with Jose in starts this year and Colon in his last start is Ozzie is not treating them like 4th and 5th starters. He is acting like they are in their prime. I still think both can contribute, Ozzie just needs a quicker hook with them. Jose gave them 5 good innings yesterday, maybe in his career that is what you're going to get, Ozzie can't just leave them in there
  8. I agree with Ozzie when he said Q isn't even locked in yet! You can tell by some of the swings he's taking at the plate. He is tremendous, hopefully he gets his AL MVP this year. I can't stop laughing everytime I see Eric Byrnes
  9. I'm sure he'll be picked up by someone else due to his talent, but unless his head takes a complete 180 it will be another team that he teases
  10. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 04:15 AM) Youre saying that all these scheduled fights for 101 and 102 have more star power than Coleman/Bonnar? UFC 101 Lightweight Championship bout: B.J. Penn vs. Kenny Florian Light Heavyweight bout: Forrest Griffin vs. Thiago Silva Welterweight bout: Amir Sadollah vs. Johny Hendricks Middleweight bout: Ricardo Almeida vs. Kendall Grove Lightweight bout: Josh Neer vs. Kurt Pellegrino UFC 102 Heavyweight bout: Randy Couture vs. Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera Middleweight bout:Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt Heavyweight bout: Junior dos Santos vs. Justin McCully Chael Sonnen vs. Wilson Gouveia Each of those cards has atleast 2 fights that shouldnt see anything about an UFN event. they're also in August, so a fight or two can be added. (I do find it odd that they have 2 PPVs in August, it happens everynow and then, but still odd). I haven't heard any rumors, but Rampage, Anderson Silva, GSP, Shogun could all be easily added to one of those cards given the last time they fought. We'll see, those could end up being the fights that are on the main card, but like it or not, TUF has sold this sport and those guys bring fans in. If Coleman and Leben walked down the street or into a bar in the U.S. I think more UFC fans would know Leben, it sucks, but that's the likely outcome. Bonnar is obviously very popular since he was in arguably one of the most important fights in U.S. MMA history, but he got destroyed in his last fight against Jones. I'm glad to see Kang won on the undercard, he might not be a top guy, but his style can be exciting and make for some good matches. (EDIT- I have no idea why I put GSP as a possability to be added to 101 or 102 since he's fighting Alves!)
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) I was following that a bit on gameday and his movement and velocity on his sinker scared the s*** out of me. 92-94 on with good sink? s***. His control was on and maybe he won't be that consistent this year, but I picked him up in both of my fantasy leagues just in case. He has already given up 3 HR in 12 innings as compared to 7 in 125 IP in high-A last year though. Something to watch. I haven't heard anything from the Tigers, but I imagine even if he's completely lights out this year they will monitor his innings pitched.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) What the heck?! Boston and Baltimore are playing right now and it's the 3rd inning? Did this game start at 9am? It started at 10 central... it's a tradition in Boston for the Red Sox to play an early game on this day, some holiday I believe that is also lined up with the Boston Marathon (Edit- It's Patriots' Day in Boston, I believe it's a holiday that area only celebrates, kind of like Kazmir Polaski day in this area)
  13. Meltzer said that at the press con Dana mentioned that he and Chuck had a deal that if he didn't KO Shogun he would retire, so we shall see... I still say he takes awhile off and comes back and fights lighter HWs in the HW division. Meltzer also said that Dana was furious at Silva about not pushing the fight last night. At this point I think they should go ahead with GSP/Silva at 185
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 01:13 AM) I should of put money down tonight. Overall, just a decent night of fights. Rua retired Chuck, at least in the UFC. Chuck's out of his league now, there's no way you give him a serious fight at this point. Silva/Leites was a complete bore. Probably the worst title fight I remember watching. Leites shouldn't of been in there in the 1st place. Even worse was Rogan's slurping of the match. It's not a 5 round rout if the guys don't wanna fight. Silva's not on the top of my p4p list after this. He could of put Leites & all of the fans out of our misery by finishing it, but he just didn't seem to care. That was the problem with the match-up between the two, as good as Silva is on the ground Leites is better and Silva didn't want to risk being submitted. It's funny that Rogan mentioned his last loss in '04 to Chonan because a few times Leites was going for the same or similar leg sweep when Silva was close. It wasn't a very good event, sometimes those happen when you run so many cards. Chuck is flat out done. I thought it would be a bad business decision to let him go because Affliction or Strikeforce would nab him, but after last night I think he lost a lot of cache with the casual fan. It will be interesting to see Shogun against a top guy in his next fight.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 08:53 AM) What annoys me is that stuff like that happens just as often at Wrigley, if not more (remember the guy that got stopped just before he got to the pitcher's mound) but Sox fans are the ones with that reputation. The Dodgers bullpen thing was crazy too and that's just glossed over all the time
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) I thought that was kind of a contrived story about the racism. It implied heavily that everybody knows Wrigley crowds are racist. I find it hard to believe in this day and age fans at Wrigley would laugh and condone racist jokes by people sitting in their section. I would think if the paper wanted a story on racism they probably should have spent a lot more time on it and polled players on many teams about playing in Wrigley and the Cell and asking them if they had any problems. And also go in the stands and talk to some fans in both ballparks and get some off the record comments if fans didn't want to go on the record. I am not a Cub fan, but I find it hard to believe that park is as racist as the article implied. I think it was probably overdone a little, but last year the whole "Holy Cow" Fukudome shirt and headband thing was a little uncomfortable for me, especially once attention was brought to it and many of the fans just kind of thumbed their noses.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Carpenter has an oblique tear, rehab time 4-8 weeks. well, they have to tread water until he gets back. If he comes back and pitches the rest of the year they can give the Cubs a run
  18. http://deadspin.com/5215460/the-end-of-the-stephen-a-era ESPN just got slightly better... addition by subtraction!
  19. wow, that was as nervous as I've gotten for an April game. Longoria out of that lineup is HUGE. Bobby needs to throw the curve everynow and then
  20. I have a Kelly Wunsch game worn I got at the garage sale that I still wear to games.
  21. QUOTE (tommy @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) Gary Sizemore just hit a grand slam at the new Yankees stadium, it is now 8-1 Indians. Slam was off D. Marte. I was watching on MLB Network and Harold Reynolds asked the 3rd guy in the booth, haven't caught who it is, if the NYY bullpen woes are do to it being early in the season. The 3rd guy actually gave an honest answer and said no, that's what ST is for... I can only imagine if one of ESPN guys was asked that question.
  22. hopefully with the extra picks they take a flyer on a huge upside or hard sign guy
  23. good read, thanks for posting. I'm looking forward to neutral reports on our guys once they get more ABs
  24. OK, just tell them if they do the U.S. doesn't give them an ounce of military help if a Mexican drug cartel or the Mexican government itself decides to attack. Seriously though, Rolling Stone did a great series of article on the drug violence in Mexico going on right now, its worth checking out.
  25. I swear alot but due to being in court everyday for 2 years have an excellent filter
