  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) Let us know your thoughts and observations. Is Tampa considering a replacement for that stadium do you know? I would wonder since Miami is building a new one to keep the Marlins. The Hawk usually talks about it when they're down there, I guess they have a good design and location in a better place, but still looking for funding... Cryptvill, that's about right?
  2. I imagine the Sox had interest in him when he was a FA a few years back and they passed due to the contract, I can't imagine them willing to take that on in the new market. The Sox have put themselves in GREAT position payroll wise, even if the market goes back up some and won't mind them taking on a bigger contract later this season as long as it's a very good player, and to me, even with the void at CF, Rowand doesn't fit that description.
  3. he's certainly become a character the last handful of years, but at one time he was a good analyst. However, at this point it's probably best that he retires.
  4. http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=eventDetai...rd&eid=1921 97 on Saturday. To me the main event is Chuck vs. Shogun because it's a HUGE fight for both those guys career. Silva fight is mildly interesting because if it goes to the ground Leites has a legit shot of upsetting. On paper I'm more interested in some of the fights that are not scheduled to air, but the UFC has got many of those on air in the last few PPVs and often fights that might not hold a lot of interest end up being barn burners. It will be interesting to see what happens if Chuck loses. I just can't see the UFC cutting him and letting him walk over to Strikeforce or Affliction and give either of them a HUGE draw for a card or two. However, even the casual fan will become less interested in him as a top of the card PPV draw. So other than cutting him they can use him as a big draw in a UFN main event, let him fight some lighter HWs at HW and promote his move to HW or if they get a HBO or Network deal have him headline a card on that. I also think I will see how it will playout because I see Shogun beating him
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Chicago is apparently in 3rd right now, based on what I have heard. I think they'll use Obama as a last minute push
  6. QUOTE (JustWin @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) What a weird day for Harden...8K's but 4 ER in 3 innings. If he manages to stay healthy most of the year, do the Cubs re-sign him? it may be an extreme example, but many of Harden's outings follow a similar path. He throws a ton of pitches and is out early in the game.
  7. QUOTE (The Critic @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:52 AM) I know if you go to radio station websites such as Q101 or the Loop they have deals on discount coupons where, for example, you pay 25 bucks and you get 50 bucks worth of gift certificates to certain restaurants. The deals and restaurants change frequently, so you have to check regularly to see what's offered that day. my friend searches those and have found some awesome ones... also if anyone is going to Las Vegas most of the restaurants there have real good deals advertised right out front.
  8. The MLB Network said all players and uniformed employees are "encouraged" to wear 42 today, so it's like someone posted above, with the union I don't think they can make it mandatory
  9. This is awesome and to me the complete right thing to do. I hope it survives the lawsuits.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) they have real problems...Lee is not a true #1 and has a history of being erratic....carmona is the same....then that 3-4-5 is really, really bad....combine that with what looks like a PED-based decline of Hafner, and a pretty poor defensive team and you certainly dont have a recipe for a division title..... Now don't get me wrong, I love sabrmetrics and truly believe in the value they provide to the game, but I honestly think ESPN takes those franchises that utilize it more than others and automatically picks them to win their divisions...i mean, every year people pick the A's and indians, and every year the Angels and Whitesox/Twins are atop the division (2007 notwithstanding) I follow sabrmetrics a little, just not familiar with some of the nitty gritty of it. The one big question I have is does it allow for unknown factors such as career years for players or how young players with very little to no stats will factor in? I'm talking about the win projections we see before the year. Like the '08 season the White Sox were projected for about 77 wins with one stat model, but they won in the high 80's, 89 I believe. Now to me the Sox had a huge unknown of Danks and Floyd in their rotation, so once those guys ended up legit starters, there's your +10 in wins. Not to mention Quentin coming out of nowhere. I would imagine when projecting wins they would have to add some unknown or chaos into a formula. (thank goodness for the edit button, looks like the grammar side of my brain didn't want to wake up this morning)
  11. it always amazes me when MLB teams see a guy have a career year and then just expect him to do it again. Eventually I expect Lee to have good numbers this year, but to bank on him being a cy young contender again this year is a stretch. For some reason the Indians are always an over hyped team, especially on ESPN. The same thing happened this year, people were just handing them the AL Central on that network by just positively answering all their "ifs" why discounting every other teams "ifs". They were slobbering all over the Wood signing, and yes, in his 2 or 3 appearances he's been good, except they don't have the starters or deep pen to get to him. I'm a firm believer that you can't win a division in April, but you can certainly lose it. The one silver lining of hope for the Tribe is I think the central is going to be a complete crap shoot so if they can go on like a 5 out of 6 streak they'll be right back in it.
  12. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) I believe Danks was pushed back as he can control the Days running game a bit better than Contreras. That is what I heard on the Score last night, the Count today and Danks tomorrow.
  13. I mean, I assume we all know that the Hawk would just put Carlos Gomez at the #1 CF of all time, right?
  14. i never thought I'd be OK with a move like this, but with the current state of CF I'm fine with it, hopefully they can catch lightning in a bottle
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) Lillibridge 2b Fields 3b Quentin lf Thome dh Dye rf Konerko 1b Pierzynski c Ramirez ss Anderson cf Is Lillibridge starting again because of the elbow bruise for Getz?
  16. I've absolutely loved how it has worked out. I think the new combos are working out very well
  17. early word on Wise is separated shoulder, this from Farmer and DJ
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Give it time... well he obviously won't keep up this crazy pace, but if he puts up his career numbers he will be an above average hitter.
  19. it's excellent and I am glad they didn't fall into the east coast bias crap. ESPN's baseball coverage is unwatchable to me now. I gave BBTN a try this year because there's a handful of people on the network I like, but it's a trainwreck. They're trying a new thing where they toss it to their analysts in like back rooms so it looks like they're spending their time breaking down tape, it's flat out terrible. The MLB Network is so well done, I'm very pleased.
  20. Good show last night, nothing great, but entertaining. It's hard to judge Diaz off last nights performance because it looked like Frank had very little left, although I saw enough to say if Diaz fights Le next Diaz should mop the floor with him. Brett Rogers was very unimpressive to me last night, he's huge, but I think there's a lot of heavyweights out there who would have little trouble with him, he looked a little sloppy and the multiple hair pulling in the 1st round was a joke. The Cyborg fight was a disgrace and I can't believe the commission let it happen. By fight time Cyborg outweighed the woman she was fighting by probably 20lbs if not more. It wasn't competitive and it was extremely dangerous, harkened back to the early days of MMA in the U.S. which, IMO, is not a good thing. I like Melendez and he did what he had to do yesterday against an opponent on 4 days notice, looking forward to the fight with Thompson.
  21. the Royals pitchers pitched well, but the Sox should have generated more than 1 run the last two games.
  22. Swisher hit well for the NYY in limited play, where's the tread for him?
  23. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) So can we all get on Ozzie on Twitter or something and ask him what's the beef with BA....I mean seriously he had to have done something, he has been in the doghouse for 3 years now The only thing I've ever heard about it was on here and it has something to do with BA getting one of his sons into a fight when they were out one night.... I have ZERO idea if any of that is true, it is just what I've seen here.
  24. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) yeah....no Wise will work his way out of the lineup. Its been 2 games, and Wise is already out of the leadoff role, his defense(or lack thereof) in CF will force Ozzie to move BA there as well. In no way do I want BA to be gone, I think his defense can add alot to this team, especially with the current CF situation in such poor shape, but I have seen nothing to indicate Ozzie will ever give him a shot
