  1. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) is it possible that podsednik isnt as horrible as we thought.... edit: check that. that's 3 times in the last few times he's been picked, just lucky that the first 2 times the 1b couldn't cut the angle down
  2. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) could we pick up the option but restructure the way it is paid out? I think the union has to sign off
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) There it is. End of the day it's all about the mean green. makes a ton of sense, if the AL/Cell was the real problem it would be a flat out denial right away. It will be interesting, but I don't the Sox will do it unless Pads throw in like 5 million to offset the bump in salary
  4. come on Colon, as Hawk would say, this is one of those big batters in a game
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) Hawk and Stoney both don't think it gets done. did they say because of the AL thing?
  6. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) If I was Peavy and/or his agent, I'd certainly give it a shot. Why not? Anyone know, is it an all-or-nothing sort of deal on the option? Could the two sides compromise, and say, just agree to guarantee more of the money for that year or raise the buyout? I imagine the AL concerns are at least a bit of a negotiating tactic. The union watches stuff like that like a hawk, so even if they can, I would think there would have to be a window for the union to approve it
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) The way we usually do things, wouldn't be surprised if it is announced at the game during the 7th inning stretch or even post game that he accepted the deal. Who knows. the last thing that happened involved in a game I can remember was Canseco's signing
  8. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) But but Wrigley has history...and Ivy... lol! Well, I posted it earlier, but this thing is getting so much action it doesn't hurt to repost. Levine said that until the Cubs are sold they won't be adding any payroll, he said "not one dime". So, the Cubs aren't a realistic possability until they're sold, and then they need the prospects and it's a question of what type of financial position the team will be in once the deal is done. Don't forget, the Cubs have alot of backloaded contracts for the next few years.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Why would Peavy be leery of USCF but love to pitch in Wrigley? It makes zero sense. I think he's leery of the AL period, which gives me concerns. Levine was talking about how basically last year he said only a trade to Houston, Cubs and one other NL team that slips my mind, and basically said no to Angels, Red Sox and NYY. As much as I would like to have him, if he says no because of the AL or Cell issue, then I wouldn't want him.
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I guess the one thing that boggles my mind is that even if he doesnt except the deal the Sox are "Buyers" and not sellers. well, he's 27 and signed until 2012 with the big 2013 option. With the roster and the contracts as they are, the Sox were going to go through an overhaul soon anyway and have money to play with. This move wouldn't be done just for this year.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) I just saw it on ESPN Sportscenter. They satrted their program out with the "developing story" and interviewed Tim and talked about Jerry Crasnick's take on things. Supposedly Crasnick had just talked with Jake P's agent again, the fact that it isn't officially dead means that there's still a chance. It doesn't do anyone any good for this to hang out there. Seems Peavy is unsure of the AL and he hasn't decided yet
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) The best is that DeRosa is going to get the Indians a better return than he got the Cubs. The Brewers and the Mets could use him badly, so between those two teams vying for him they can get alot, and other teams will likely be in on it too... Levine did add that even with DeRosa the Cubs can't do anything. Their payroll is frozen until the sale is done, and even then it probably won't be floodgates of payroll
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) ESPN Tim Kurkian (sp?) says he thinks this trade will happen and someone else says it won't happen and someone else says maybe. I am all confused was that on national radio or on the website?
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) What? Scott was on earlier and made no indication of that. Indicated it was 50/50. He was on ESPN 1000 and Linebrink specifically said that Peavy told him he doesn't care about the AL... now Peavy may just be BS'ing Linebrink, but I heard it too
  15. Levine has said the Cubs have "not a dime" in flexability until the deal is signed, sealed and delivered, so if Peavy is expecting the Cubs to make it happen, it can't for a little. DeRosa is going to get moved
  16. QUOTE (shipps @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) On the Score Holmes said we would know by this afternoon if Jake accepted the deal, does he have some sort of deadline or what? that's the first I heard an outlet report it, but one needs to come because Richards and Peavy are scheduled to pitch Saturday and Friday.
  17. nothing new, basically Peavy isn't ready to decide now and he expects a deadline to come soon
  18. says it's an odd situation because Richard is sitting in the clubhouse
  19. Levine on first comment is (wait they have to play his annoying theme song) he's hearing the agent saying that Peavy isn't ready to make the decision right now, but it could change later on today or tomorrow and that Peavy to the Cell is one of his worst scenarios for his career
  20. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) Ken Griffey Jr had the same deal last year, we waited on him to waive his NTC The Garcia trade was discussed at an insane level too, not a NTC, but a trade that was discussed and went through
  21. QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) I think his agent wants him to pitch in the NL more than Peavy. lol, true, but smart GMs know the AL/NL difference.
  22. I will update as quickly as I can Levine's report from the Cell starting any minute
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) I'll miss the heck out of Poreda if this happens. He's a really down to earth guy. gut feeling from me, you won't have to miss him... atleast in a Peavy deal.
  24. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) Scott Linebrink talked to Peavy last night and told The Score that Jake is not against pitching in the AL. This seems to sound like Writers sick of silence in the news cycle and are rehashing old stories as to why there is silence. Well his agent said he has a preferance to pitch in the NL... I just can't find out when he said that. Someone earlier posted that the comment was made when he hadn't talked to him since last night... the about an hour since the bad news hit seems to me it's not officially dead, like I posted earlier, KW and the Sox will get the news out there quickly if it is dead officially, they don't want it out there one second longer than it has to be.;
