  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) Borchard was not the 5th pick overall. The Sox haven't had a top ten pick since ... who? Thomas? Fernandez? ok, I just remember hearing Sox got excellent value when they picked him because no one expected him to sign to play baseball since he was also a possible 1st round football pick the next year. So maybe he was like 15th, but people were saying he was top ten value...
  2. As much as I would like to see Tejada added, I don't see it happening. I know the O's want to smooth over the Tejada stuff, at least in the public eye, so they don't lose leverage on a trade, but I think they will try and make it work for awhile. They signed MT looking to build their franchise around him for at least six years, these rumblings from him just started, I would believe they would want to try and smooth things out. Also, his trade value won't drop before the trade deadline, so they can at least try and work things out until then. Also, according the the Trib I believe, other than the Ramirez offer, there were never any players discussed with the O's from any team, even the Cubs, there were just initial phone calls.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Hype? Im comparing players, and so was the guy in the BA chat, he is an educated baseball man, bringing hype into the discussion is pointless for arguments sake. Wasn't Borchard the 5th pick overall? I believe he was one of the highest power rated hitters coming out of the draft since McGwire. Maybe Borchard totally fizzled, but he was rated high, even by baseball america early in is career. Maybe a better comparisson could possibly be a Cory Patterson type player, who was rated high by everybody, Cubs would never include him in deals, now they can't get rid of him. I am not saying Young will fail and not be an excellent player, I mean the Cubs did trade Dontrelle Willis and JG, and Red Sox traded Bagwell and on and on, but I want the Sox to win the World Series again in 2006, and IMO this trade helps that, either by standing pat or spinning it into a bigger move.
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Don't matter to me. I'm not paying it. All I'm supposed to do is go to the ballpark and enjoy the game and I've done my part. i agree. This argument was brought up a lot when the Cubs didn't sign Furcal, and it makes sense to me
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) We all have to remember that Garland's impending trip to free agency after 2006 shoots down his trade value a great deal, especially when teams throw 5-year, $50+ million contracts at him. to some teams, but I think to some contending teams it would still be pretty high, if a team has a hole in their rotation and one good pitcher can make a difference next year, his value would still be high
  6. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) good point...i think the cards wouldnt give up much major league talent though, and i dont think the sox are gonna want anythign but major league talent for garland yeah, I was just using them as an example of a team that would kill for another solid starting pitcher. This is a GREAT problem to have, and I imagine the Sox are the only major league team with this issue.
  7. The more I think about this trade the move I like it. There are teams that are supposed to be competative teams that are scrambling for solid 4th or 5th starters. Now KW has 6 solid starters. He can either stay where he is or hold all the cards in a potential deal. Look at the Cardinals, they made the NLCS last year, and they lost Matt Morris, how do you think their fans feel right now? They would likely give up a ton to get JG.
  8. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) I still think Garland stays. Sox near deal for D-Backs' Vazquez right, like I posted earlier, KW hates the World Baseball Classic, and I think he's OK with sticking B-Mac in the minors for another year and using him in spot starts if needed.
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) Is there any way that Kenny is looking to deal Garland and Uribe for Tejada? I doubt it. It seems O's and Tejada have patched things up for now. Also, I think it would take more than that to get Tejada, and I mean ML talent.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) How about Garland for Kotsay? 0_o lol, s***, I forgot about that name, that's another one that was on the Cubs last year until it turned out all the reports were wrong.
  11. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) I am sorry but I think we could get a better player in return than an old injury plagued Griffey. I imagine if KW put Garland on the trade market, even if he limited to NL only, he could get a ton.
  12. the funny thing is I really believed KW when he said last week he was done with major moves. He had to go into super secret double probation uber stealth mood on this one.
  13. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) I trust KW. Even if he screws up (eventually he will), his aggressiveness is why the Sox are World Champions. he already has, he even poked fun at himself about how bad the Todd Ritchie trade was on the Score last week. But guess what, he won a World Series last year.
  14. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Creepy story about that home run. I was sitting in the RF stands for the all-star game with my buddy. And Blalock comes to the plate, works the count to 2-1. This 35 year old guy next to me turns to me and goes "2-1 home run count." Puts on his glove (which I thought was hilarious that a 35 year old guy was bringing to the game) and stands up. On that pitch Blalock hits a home run and where does go, none other than straight into the guys glove who was standing up next to me. I will never forget that play. It was just the oddest sequence of events I have ever been around at a baseball game. was your buddy James Earl Jones, and did "Moonlight Graham" appear on the board?
  15. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) Do you think Garland is a #1 starter ? I'd say he could be a #2, but more likely a #3. I do undertand what you're saying though - on Philadelphia, he probably would be at the top of the roation. yeah, I don't think JG is a 1, but he has that nasty sinker, and in that ball park his value may be more than other pitchers rated higher who are flyball pitchers... but with that said, if Phil wanted Zam or Prior from the Cubs for Abreu, it would take more than just JG
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Maybe someone should try to find a picture of Ozzie and Abreu golfing together last week? lol, there was a picture of Ozzie and JV dropping off some charity goods
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) What? Patterson's fast, can play center field, and bats lefty. Sounds like a perfect fit to me. AND IF ANYONE'S TAKING ME SERIOUS, SHAME ON THEM! yeah, there's no shade of green that would do that justice
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) I know you're just throwing that out there but then again Scotty in center. lol, that's what runs through my mind everytime I think of another corner outfielder coming in. OK, my pipedream trade that comes out of this that would NEVER happen, Seattle backs off on their no trading Ichiro policy
  19. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) Someone explain to me why Tampa Bay would want Jon Garland, who is a FA after this year excellent point, that's why maybe the Rangers, they would seem to be a team who would pay a lot of money to a pitcher (cough Chan Ho cough) so they may do it thinking they can resign him
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) Another pitcher? WTF? the early reports said a minor league reliever is possibly included
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) So how many times over the next couple of days will we hear the names Carl Crawford, Hank Blalock, and might I add, Adam Dunn? s***, if they could get Adam Dunn, that would be crazy, but then Pods would have to patrol CF and Dunn LF, that may be a bumpy defense
  22. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) What is the problem from RotoWorld's point of view ? That the White Sox have traded a young prospect, took on a big contract ? ?????? They have their favorite teams and tend to bash whatever the Sox do.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) I just don't get the deal. The rotation was set, even if just for 2006. I think it would have been better to stay put but more pitching is more pitching. I have faith in deals that KW makes and I have faith in Ozzie/Coop. I agree with posters who have said Garland could be dealt still, I think it may be KW's fear of injury due to all the innings last year and the World Baseball thing for FG and MB. Now he has a solid backup plan with B-Mac in AAA.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) Duque/Young for Vazquez.....I kinda like it. Better than Garland for Vazquez IMO. Pretty much a done deal.... I like it. I know Young is a prospect, but Sox still have Sweeney, Anderson and Owens. That's 3 good prospects for the OF.
  25. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) You can about finalized this deal--MLB is reporting it on their main page. Which version (sorry my connection sucks and MLB loads like crap)
