  1. OK, sorry if this has been mentioned, but I just saw this thread and don't want to sift through 13 pages... but the line that boggles my mind is at the end where it says something to the effect of the Sox not wanting to conflict with the Bears game and the Cubs convention. Are you kidding me?!?!?!? There would be nothing more the Sox would love than to announce a trade for Miguel Tejada on the weekend of the Cubs convention, it would be one of the biggest PR coups in a long time.
  2. good signing, I'm a firm believer teams should be built from the lines on both sides of the ball. The no ACL thing really isn't a huge deal with O-Linemen, many damage them, but it's not needed for their jobs. I really like Angelo's cap management, they honestly don't expect Garza to be here 6 years, but it helps spread the cap hit. Bears have added some good players without killing their cap with huge bonuses. Like with Tait, instead of a ridiculous bonus, I'm pretty sure they gave him a huge first year salary, that way he was basically a normal cap player after year 1.
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?ne...11176>1=7538 I wonder if his hearing loss has anything to do with, Oh I dunno, playing loud as f*** in a rock and roll band for like 30 years. I love how people do stupid s*** for years and years and then suddenly get preachy. I wonder if the IPod people can sue his ass, like the beef industry sued Oprah. he also lost a significant amount of hearing on a TV show when Keith Moon and the pyro man got wasted and put in WAY too much explosives into Moon's kit and Townsend was standing right in front of it when it went off.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) LOL.. Kids She's mid 40's and smoookkkiiinnnggg hot!! I pray I look half that good at her age. one of the best SNL jokes in years was about Madonna's and Spears' kiss on some award show. Fallon said "That was hot, if you find sad desperation for attention hot" Couldn't agree more with that crack!
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Correct, which is why I suspect his trade value isn't quite what some think it is. i think it would still be high to a team that considers itself a contender. The only thing I'm basing this on is some of the reported Burnett packages before the deadline. People were willing to give up a ton for him, he basically said he was going to test FA. I know A.J. was younger, but if for only one season, it's a similar idea.
  6. Did he find a new drug to beat the steroid test?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:41 AM) Its quirky. Its one that you can't just jump into... You either had to watch it from the beginning or give it time to grow on you. The humor is different, but I love the characters. I really enjoy the show when I watch it, but it is a show that always falls through the cracks for me, and I even have TiVo. I think they've moved it around a few times, but it really is an excellent show. I think in the first season they did an episode where Colin Hay from Men at Work would appear and play an accoustic version of "Overkill" It really was one of the finest half hours of TV I've seen in the last few years.
  8. I was able to catch all of this unfold on both CNN and Fox news. It truly was gut wrenching to hear the change of facts, I couldn't even imagine what the families went through. I don't know who is to blame for the misscommunication, but I know I was absolutely sickened by the way Anderson Cooper handled it on CNN. He came off trying to spin it as not CNN's fault instead of focusing on the horrible plight of the families. In stuff like this I always tend to blame the media, it is a bias I have. CNN and Fox and all the other newsstations always are trying to "scoop" each other so when something isn't right they then try to throw whoever necessary under the bus. Do I blame them for covering the celebration? Of course not, they had cameras there. Am I being way to harsh on the media because of past incidents? Probably, but just watching it live I don't think they handled it in a professional way.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) I love the "definitely a Marquis signing" headline on Chicago Sports. The agenda of those people is something else... one of the local newscasts took a slam at it and said "Not a Marquis Signing"
  10. yeah, that troll s*** is crazy, but not as crazy as some of the ridiculous Tejada threads. Some of the posts say s*** like, "Yeah, i read that Hendry will reopen talks with Baltimore, he can probably get him without giving up Prior, Zambrano, Cedenao or Pie" they smoke some seriously strong crack
  11. QUOTE(kdhargo @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) The latest from www.mlbtraderumors.com (take w/ grain of salt) states the the Red Sox and Orioles have made an initial agreement in the Tejada sweepstakes. "The word is the Tejada-Ramirez/Clement trade has been agreed to in principle by the two teams blocked only at this time with last minute complications caused by Manny." Complications? Manny? Nawww.... yeah, suprise suprise, reportadly Manny is demanding the O's pick up his two option years on his contract to agree to the trade
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) I never read the article but what is there to say about Prior's pitching mechanics.... unlike Wood he has good mechanics... that was the original thought, but with his phantom arm problems last year there has been a lot of questions about it. The best thing I heard someone say about it (Maybe it was Stone, I can't remember) is that pitching is just a violent motion and no matter how sound a pitcher's mechanics look, there is always a lot of stress on the arm.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) Dayn Perrys wet dream More straws being grasped. My favorite line is, Five years running the Yankees have been the preseason favorite to win the World Series. This time, they'll come through. Well we should start seeing the preseason predictions coming in. I figure we will be picked anywhere from being champs to fighting it out for 4th place with the royals based on whatever mediot decides to put pen to paper. Lets see what happens on the field. I think the Yankees pitching staff is going to come up short again like last year.
  14. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 08:23 AM) Yesterday, when I was listening to Baseball 365, they said that Prior's agent stated in the newspaper that Prior was never even included in this talk for Tejada. yeah, in the Sun Times on saturday it said something like the O's came to the Cubs and asked for Prior, and the Cubs are saying they said no unless another pitcher was included (the bedard rumor) So it seems the Cubs know that it's a real possibility they won't be getting Tejada and have to spin it to soothe Prior's ego (not that I really blame them for doing what they are doing)
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) I really think that the White Sox have the advantage over the Red Sox in getting Tejada. I know that the Orioles still want to get the most value for Tejada, but trading him to a division rival? It seems I'm really overrating Prior, even over the O's. I know in Sullivan's article he said O's basically told the Cubs no Zambrano no deal. But with all these names being thrown around I would want Prior out of any of them. Trust me, by no means am I a Cubs fan, but he is younger than Jose and a lot better than Benson or Clement. I think if the Cubs do a similar deal but put Pie or Cedeno in there the Cubs would have the inside track.
  16. Just heard on ESPN radio that Kobe Bryant got into it with Lamar Odom and it got physical, with Bryant supposedly making the first move, and his personal security staff had to break it up and keep them apart during the bus ride to the airport. This follows up the Mike Miller incident where he went after Miller by giving him a forearm to the throat, supposedly for retaliation for an earlier hard foul. Kobe Bryant is crazy. He drives Shaq out of town, he takes a ridiculous amount of shots a night. IMO this is what happens when you pamper an athlete from HS and stuff starts to go wrong, the have a hard time handling it. If you read his apology to the women from Colorado after everything was settled it was sickening. He just didn't get it. Now the public isn't embracing him and he's having a hard time dealing with it, espically since his team is doing OK, but not a major force in the NBA
  17. I would think any deal for the Sox and Tejada would have to include B-mac. Not sure how I would feel about that, but it makes the most sense. If Levine is to be believed in this case, the O's rejected Prior/Hill and Patterson. IMO at this point, the Cubs offer would be better than Contreras and Uribe. So why would the O's accept that. I see the O's only being interested in MB/Freddy/JG or B-mac. It seems KW would never trade MB, Freddy would be a difficult sell to Ozzie and JG now has a 1 year no-trade clause. That leaves B-Mac. I don't know about the White Sox possibly getting Tejada. I didn't like the Cubs offer for him from the Cubs side. I know on paper it seems to favor the Cubs, but how can you trade pitching potential like Prior? I know he's been injured, but look at the past world series winners, driven by pitching, and while you can't count on Prior I see them having no chance at going very deep in the playoffs without him, either through injury or trade. Same with the Sox. Tejada is a top tier player, but I've said before I wouldn't mind KW walking into ST with 6 starters due to injury potential.
  18. whose the Marlins other catcher? I know the have Girardi in the dugout which IMO is a plus for a young pitching staff, but Olivo struggled with calling games.
  19. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Talk seems to have shifted from Chicago to Boston. I saw it a while ago on ESPNNEWS, Boston had offered Manny for Tejada straight up but now they have included Clement in the offer. The contracts of Manny and Clement are 20 mil apart from Tejada. I don't see that happening and if it did Boston would have to eat alot of the money. Plus, they are in the same division. Just figured I'd post that. yeah, i heard the same thing on the radio, so it was expanded on a little more. Basically you are right, the O's don't want to trade him within the division, but it seems the other offers they got aren't what they are interested in getting in return, including the Cubs offer.
  20. ESPN is saying O's officials are saying today that Tejada is unlikely to be traded. Now I know that could mean I'll wake up tomorrow and he'll be traded, but the saga might be over for now. I believe the report that Cubs offered Prior/Hill/Patterson, I just imagine that it wasn't enough for the O's and the Cubs wouldn't give up Zambrano and or Pie instead.
  21. Score said there will be a conference call with JG later today, so keep your ears open for that. Also, usually the Sox arrange for new additions or people signing extensions to interview with the local sports talkers, so monitor the Score and ESPN for a JG interview. I will be interested to hear what JG or KW has to say.
  22. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Ugh. I hope we don't plan on trading the starter that starting the first game of every series in our playoff run. He is going to be one of the best pitchers in the league this year. Ugh. WTF was the point of trading for Vazquez then. We could have just given his money to Contreras and signed JG. You have to have insurance when you have players going into FA or in FA. It is why KW traded for Thome before resigning PK. Ultimately it helped resign PK, but KW needed to put a bat in place just in case Konerko walked. KW had 2 of his starters unsigned going into '07 when he traded for Vazquez, now he has a 5 man rotation going into '07 and 6 ML starters for this year. With the extreme lack of pitching around the league KW has put himself in an excellent situation to either stand pat or trade from depth.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) -JR is also heading the stadium negotiation committee for the Washington Nationals, so he is privy to vital info as to when the sale of the franchise will most likely be done, and how much of a share they should expect from that. Good point, I heard last night that each team will get between 10-15m when they are sold
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Does anyone else think that this suggests KW may seriously be considering running a 6 man rotation for at least a month or so? I think they would put McCarthy in the bullpen if they came in with 6. Last year when Cooper was asked about it he said he doesn't like the 6 man rotation. Basically said it throws off schedules and he thinks extra rest can sometimes hurt a pitcher. But who knows with KW
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) The payroll number is scary, but doesn't necesarily mean that we are trading someone. Bear with me here folks. Coming into this off season, the goal stated for season tickets was to move the base from 11,000 to 15,000 people. Before January first even rolled around, we are at 20,000 people now, which means we are sitting on about an attendance of 1.6 million people before a single regular season single game ticket has been sold. Last year we sold about 1.3 million of those on our way to the World Series. This year we have a World Series title to sell tickets with. If we even sell another million tickets or so from here on out, we are looking at another 20% increase in attendace over 2005, theoretically putting that much more cash into the budget. I said it in August, and I will say it again, $100 million is very, very possible for this team to maintain in its current form. I think the point of starting the TV netowork with the other teams was to increase revenue too, so I imagine with that in its 2nd year, the returns from that are probably being noticed.
