Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension
SoxFan562004 replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Mark must love this move, too. Now his best friend is signed longer than him. OK,not that I agree with this or actually think it is going to happen, but with KW you never know, does he completely blindside everyone and decide as a lefty he has zero chance to resign MB and he trades him? -
Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension
SoxFan562004 replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is one of the reasons I love KW because the suprises never end. I have no idea what he is going to do next. This is a good suprise as a Sox fan, but it should be interesting. -
QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Miguel Tejada - SS - Orioles The Orioles remain in talks with a couple of teams about Miguel Tejada, but they appear to be no closer to a deal with anyone. Radio reports have the Cubs offering Mark Prior, Corey Patterson and Rich Hill for Tejada and Eric Bedard, but the Orioles shouldn't have any interest in moving Bedard and it's believed they prefer Carlos Zambrano to Prior. A source told the Baltimore Sun that Boston's current is offer is Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement for Tejada. Dec. 27 - 11:12 pm et Source: Baltimore Sun TIFWIW to add on to this, late at night, about 2 a.m. maybe, on the local sports update on the Score they said talks have stalled between the Cubs and Orioles.

QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) I remember Chicago as a two season town. Winter and Construction. yeah, that went out the window, Construction is now a 365 thing, not broken into seasons

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Maybe the Sox should trade Garland to Seattle and get Jeremy Reed back and some bullpen help. not trying to be disagreeable here, just a genuine question. Wasn't it reported that the M's wanted Anderson but the Sox had Anderson rated higher than Reed and wanted to clear the way for Anderson to play?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) You got that right. The latest report is that the Orioles are now holding out for Carlos Zambrano and Felix Pie instead of Mark Prior. Yeah, this report is spreading, in fact the Score just said O's are holding out for Prior and Zambrano!!! I think they misworded their copy and meant what you are saying.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) ESPNews is reporting that the holdup to the trade is that the Orioles want Zambrano instead of Prior but the Cubs won't do that. This stuff is getting hilarious. Which would make all the 3-4 team deal rumors make sense. O's want more, and are in the position to ask for it. If this trade goes down it should be interesting. This would be Hendry's first big trade where it didn't involve another team salary dumping.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) Considering the fact that Furcal gave the Cubs every opportunity to match the Dodgers' offer and they didn't, but are now looking to trade Prior for another shortstop makes them look really, really stupid. They should have just ponied up the cash for Furcal. Afterall, they have the money available. And they wouldn't even need to be thinking about trading Prior right now. Right, both stations here in Chicago have said that Furcal's camp came back to the Cubs after the Dodgers final offer (meaning the one he ultimately signed). They weren't looking for an exact match of the 3 year offer, just a small bump on the 5 year deal they had, and supposedly Hendry wanted to do it, but was nixed by the people above him.

well, i was 10.5 pounds, and my mom is a small woman (I imagine 26 years ago she was 5'1 no more than 100lbs. So, they got me too far down the birth canal, and the doctor told my mother "We can't get him out" and I wasn't in a position for a C-Section. Well then, as I have had it explained to me i was "Folded like a taco" had my collar bone snapped and pulled out. How's that for a way to come into the world!!

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) Excellent post. Unless Hendry and company have some inside information like this that no one else knows, he would be a fool to trade Prior. yup, I can't shake that idea from my mind. They are already a starting pitcher short, and to trade your 1 or 2 doesn't make sense. Zambrano, Wood (who won't start the year healthy per Dusty Baker), Maddux, Rusch (sp?), Williams. That rotation isn't very strong.
-
OK, early warning on how the Cubs fans will spin Prior leaving. Mike Murphy is starting to bring up past big pitcher for big bat trades. He's bringing up how it might be like Brock for Broligio (sp?) and Pappas for Frank Robinson. So that is how the Cubs fans will spin this.

QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) this place is getting more boring by the day. we honestly can't have one thread without someone being a jackass. jokes aren't allowed here anymore, i forgot. I agree!

I just get the feeling that with all these names floating around and rumors of 3-4 team trades (the A's from yesterday, now the Sox, etc...) it seems Angelos isn't jumping on any of the Cubs offers, or it would be done.
-
I agree that Prior has some questionable health issues. I mean there never was a definitive answer on what his elbow problem was last year, in fact the Cubs were coming out and saying there's nothing wrong, almost putting the pressure on Prior to pitch through whatever problems he was having. But I just can't see how this would help the Cubs get closer to winning the World Series. Their lineup would be great, but would it be as good as the Yankees one was last year? I would say no, and Yankees didn't even make it out of the first round because their pitching wasn't good enough, and I don't think adding Millwood or Weaver is going to change that.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) I dont like the Ken Rosenthal suggested Red Sox/Orioles/Cubs swap. I think the Red Sox would be getting alot more than they deserved. Yeah, I'm calling shennanigans on it too. Why the hell would the O's do that? I imagine since Tejada is a SS his value is similar to Manny, so why wouldn't they get what the Red Sox are getting? This is just my opinion, but after reading the first article on the thread, it seems like these might be kind of stale rumors, but just got leaked out. (Of course now that I typed this, this exact deal will be announced within an hour) I would scratch my head if Cubs pull this deal off. Didn't they see how the White Sox, Marlins, etc... have won the WS recentally? It was interesting to hear Dan Patrick on the show with Levine today, basically Patrick said that Prior wouldn't be nearly enough for Tejada, and Bruce pointed out how locally, with his injuries etc... Prior is not as rated highly nationally.
-
Levine is jumping on these rumors while cohosting with Silvy. However, he is stressing that it will take more than just Prior to get this done.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines good article by Phil Rogers, basically says what a lot of us on this thread are saying, meaning the signing doesn't make a lot of sense.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) I got arrested at Indiana Beach, at the tender age of 17. I had a .12. Being under 18 my parents had to drive to Indiana from Chicago at 11:00 at night to pick me up from the police station. THAT was a fun ride home!!! Did you get to hang out with the Crow guy? I think Terry Boers calls him "Stinkfinger Crow"

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) I cant wait to read the boston media response to this. You know they will be crying and blaming, thats for sure. edit:LMAO, Kirk Ravitch just referred to the signing in reverence and forever coined it *pause* "The Johnny Damon Signing©" oh just wait until tomorrow, you will get an assfull of this. I doubt I can listen to Dan Patrick tomorrow for fear I might break my radio. Only good thing about Gammons reaction is he'll likely point out that the NYY pitching staff still has some questions, which is something that will be ignored by everyone else.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) He'll write an article soon enough saying how Papelboner is the greatest young pitcher in the game. Much like in Game 3 of the division series where Berman practically recreated XXX Porn in the both over him and when Jenks threw harder than him barely mentioned anything.
-
Good signing, good upgrade over what they had last year, $$$ doesn't mean much to the Yankees, they had to overpay to get him, I'm sure the NYY fans aren't complaining about it. Someone else made the point, but when I heard it one of my initial reactions was this was probably well received in Toronto. Boston is in a lot of trouble now, it will be interesting to see what they do. What's the Yankees starting rotation? I thought they took a step back in their pen when they basically swapped Farnsworth for Gordon.
-
it's a perfect signing for the Cubs, he'll hit 20-25 homeruns to excite the Cubs fans, and make some flashy plays for the highlight reel. I know someone mentioned that Cubs fans thought C. Lee was coming, I always like to think of the lineup the Cubs fans thought they would have when players are asked questions when they come to town, I can think of: C- I-Rod 2b- Soriano SS- Furcal/Tejada (Cubs fans thought Tejada was here and no chance of him going anywhere else CF- Damon/Beltran I mean it's crazy.

Rangers also have Millwood coming in to visit, so they are not done looking to add another pitcher

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Until he took that line drive in chest, he was doing an acceptable job as a 5th starter. Afterwards, he never could get back to that level. yeah, that was ugly. I've seen guys take liners before, but that one looked a little extra nasty, like it really hit a bad spot, and with all the problems he had with his circulatory system it obviously did.
