  1. I'm a huge David Cross fan, and dissapointed he doesn't do more on that website. This letter sums up so many of my feelings about the current state of what is popular in this country right now (ie, good, smart, shows like Too Late With Adam Carolla and Arrested Development get cancelled while "Yes Dear" keeps a chuggin). One section I really liked though is when he talked about how if Larry and himself worked together, even though they have different views, they would likekly be able to get along still. I just think the media stirs the red and blue state s*** up so much that people think they can't be friendly with the other side. However, I have many friends who have polar political views, but we still manage to get a long very well. I do have to admit that I just don't get the whole "Blue Collar Comedy" tour/show etc... it's been on in before and I haven't even be slightly amused by it. Not that I don't like a lot of the toilet humor stuff, I crack up every time Terrance and Phillip are on South Park (and yes, I know there is supposed to be satire in those characters about how simple the humor is, but it's still funny on the fart humor level as well).
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) It doesn't surprise me some of them are speculating that. Florida wants two things, they want bullpen help (badly) and they want talented young players who are ready to contribute. It all depends if Pierre agrees to a contract extension. If not, the price is cheaper because it's a likely one year rental. This should play itself out in the next 10 days, but I see a bullpen guy and an OF for Pierre and something from the Marlins farm system coming back. You guys don't want to hear this, but the White Sox are going for it, they are not in the business of developing prospects. They have one extra top OF prospect and I suspect one will be traded. I think it pans out after Furcal signs, then Pierre is more valuable since there's one less leadoff hitter on the market
  3. If Furcal doesn't sign with the Cubs either Boras or the Marlins have them over a barrel. Cubs need a leadoff hitter, they have zero chance to win that division or a WC next year without a proven one (i know, they still need an OF or two and a SP, but they have to start somewhere). I think Furcal and his agent did backflips when the Dodgers took a public interest, I still think he signs with the Cubs, but it's going to be for a good chunk of $$$
  4. yeah, i know the ages are way off, but if a team is looking to win the next 1-2 years, I would rather have Flash than Farnsworth, and they're roughly the same deals
  5. I know this started making the rounds yesterday and before, but I'm seeing it all over today, the Dodgers have entered the Furcal bidding. He or his agent is going to meet with them tomorrow.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) So...Kenny Williams is god. Anyone disagree? Well he better answer he is if Gozer the Gozerian asks him
  7. QUOTE(BFirebird @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Great Job KW!!! Way to get it done!!!! Kenny isn't done yet either. Expect more minor moves.....but usually his minor moves are some of the best in the league. IE Loaiza, Iguichi, Uribe, etc. I think Marte will go and Duque if someone is willing to eat some of that contract, outside of that I think KW is done and he did a GREAT job
  8. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) I think there is a chance they still bring Frank back in a platoon role with Thome. Check out their splits. Frank hits better against lefties and Thome hits better against righites. Thome is still a 500AB guy
  9. Heard on ESPN Radio that Bonds is going to be on Team USA for the World Cup... unreal, that makes me sick, this guy is a joke, and to add to it he's reporting he is going to drop 40lbs for next year... unreal, he'll say it's for speed and his knees, and they'll still celebrate his HRs
  10. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Who really cares what bastard Flubbs fans think?! This is yet another in a long series of happy days for Sox fans.,, CAN YOU SAY DYNASTY?!?!?!?!? I really don't care what Murph thinks, it's just that ESPN has a national radio show on right now and I turned to the score to get some local reaction, and I got Bears e-mail and an e-mail talking about how Howry dominated the White Sox last year
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) That should go over real well with the Sox brass.. What a jag. No s***, OK finally at 12:53 they're doing the "breaking news" thing... literally 1/2 hour behind ESPN Murph is horrible,he just said "Great job George" a little late...
  12. LOL, you have to love the Score sometimes. They're the only local sportsradio on right now and Murph is reading Bears e-mails.... :headshake It might be he's pissed as a Cubs fan, I know he spent a lot of time basically saying how screwed the Sox will be if PK leaves, and he thought it was going to happen
  13. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) its up on breaking news on espn news HELL YEAH This is so great. I think this caught a lot of people off guard, I know it did for me, I bet Angels and Bo Sox Manny talks really heat up now with Red Sox just gaining a ton of leverage (ESPN Radio is also reporting Manny is selling the space he lives in in Boston)
  14. That's to you Los, your post was up a good 5 minutes before anything on ESPN Radio
  15. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) I wish I had a radio with me. What did Levine say, if anything? said deal is worth as much as 5/65 and Angels and O's were willing to go 5/70, looks like Paulie gave a little discount
  16. I'm really interested to hear the final numbers, ESPN Radio was reporting that the O's offer he turned down was more than both the Sox and the Angels... i think I saw 5/60 on the board
  17. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) whats the next move? pierre? I think Marte moves, probably not for Pierre though, I think the Sox look to avoid arbitration with JG and A.J.
  18. If this is all true (which seems like it is) this is a such a pleasant suprise to me. I really thought PK was going to walk, but it seems like the World Series actually has changed so much for the culture of The Sox. This is great news.
  19. Let's hope Bruce is right on this one!! A lot of AL GMs are probably slamming their doors right now, because Thome/PK is a lot better than Carl/PK... If this is true, good job KW, it seems like the Sox are taking the step up and they are becoming an "October" club like the Yankees and Red Sox... Awesome
  20. QUOTE(Adam G @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) Just said on ESPN that Konerko rejected Baltimore's 5/65 offer. Wow, so that means the Angels either made him an insane offer (5/70 or a 6th year) or he's coming back to the Sox for that number, because I don't see KW going higher than that... although I guess he may go to the Angels for that if he wants to be on the west coast.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Furcal has narrowed his choices to the Cubs, Dodgers, and Braves, and will likely make a decision before the winter meetings start next week. my personal feeling is he ends up with the Cubs, with a "holy s***" contract, meaning he was willing to give the Braves a discount, but the Cubs basically make him an offer that he just couldn't turn down.... Numbers floating around were something like 5/50, I see cubs giving him either like 5/60 or a player option for a 6th year. Quick question to some of you who are more familiar with contracts. Does the union let players put clauses in regarding things like drugs/DUI? I imagine any team would have to put in something about this for Furcal, if he gets another DUI he's going to go to jail
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Bruce Levine is reporting that the Cubs offered Corey Patterson to the Dodgers for Milton Bradley and L.A. is looking at him. Ouch, Milton Bradley with Dusty Baker as his manager? Bradley is a wild man, and Dusty lets his players do what they want then stick up for them in the media, that could be very interesting.
  23. the HOF has to get people through the door, and that's what a band like Blondie does. I do think they belong, they sold a lot of records and truly were a crossover type band. Starting in the punk scene, they were able to score disco hits and even have an early hit with a rap influenced song.
  24. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) This lineup wouldn't be all that bad but you're probably right. It looks like we'd be missing a big stick in the middle of the lineup. Podsednik LF Mueller DH/3B Thome 1B Dye RF Iguchi 2B Pierzynski C Crede 3B/DH Anderson CF Uribe SS Right, that's my feeling on it. As much as I loved the pitching staff last year I think it's a lot to ask for them to 1. Stay healthy for a full season 2. Duplicate last years numbers Sox had a lot of close games last year, and they're overall offensive numbers weren't spectacular. While I think the pitching staff will be extremely good again this year I want to see them add more offense. Hearing Hahn's (again sp?) comments, it seems like the Sox will use any money they didn't use resigning PK, so I have a feeling they will bring in another above average power bat. WSCR threw around the names Glauss and Blalock (sp?). Who knows, but I imagine that's why KW wants his answer before December 8th so he can get something done at the winter meetings instead of scrambling in Jan or Feb.
  25. I voted no. I wouldn't completely bench the starters and have them play a significant part of the remaining games after homefield is clinched. Now, history is nice, but the reason I would do it is you don't want them coming in flat to their playoff games. Say they clinch it with 2 games left in the season, then you rest them for the final two games and have the bye week for the first week of playoffs. Then you're asking the starters to come back after 3 weeks of downtime against a very good team who has played 1 playoff game already and might have had to fight tooth and nail in the regular season to get in... IMO that's a recipe for disaster, espically if it's the Patriots, then I believe mind games start creeping in.
