I have as many righties in a lineup at houston as possible, with our batters they could hit a ton of homeruns... In Houston i think Widger becomes a legitimate threat off the bench

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Astros. It's tough to beat both Clemens and Oswalt, especially when you're as beat up as the Cardinals are. What are Pettite's and Clemens playoff numbers? I seem to remember seeing them and they're OK, but not overwhelming. I know they showed Pettite's numbers in games he could eliminate the oppennent, and they were something like 3-2 in 8 games with a 4.25 ERA

QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) I made an image for our Playoff Staff. I think Jose will keep me laughing all night, that is awesome

QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) I'll go with whatever Ozzie does at this point. Exactly!! i think it will be the same as this series, it may change a little depending on Astros or Cardinals... I know Minute Maid has that ridiculous short porch in left, but that park is very pitchable in considering the other demensions...

it didn't sink in until I heard Rooney's call and looked on-line at ESPN and Chicago Sports.com... it still hasn't 100% sunk in, I think reading the papers tomorrow will be awesome, I probably have to do it in private, because I might start crying

QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 11:30 PM) joe buck did give us credit one time about how we capitalized on all those mistakes Then their wrap-up segment was basically talking about how the starting pitching dominated and very little to nothing about the mistakes -
I stayed at home to watch it with my dad and I was so happy, I stood up and jumped around, then I hugged my dad and went outside and screamed!! It really hit me when I finally heard Rooney's call, I teared up. Also, on Fox News when Cory McPherin (sp?), a life time Southsider and Sox fan brought up his 84 year old dad he got choked up so much he couldn't finish, then when they threw it back to the studio Dane Placko and Robin (last name?) were also choked up and Robin finally said "Hey, we never hid that we're Sox fans, this is sports, we don't have to be neutral" It was genuine and touching, both the Fox moment and Rooney
-
For my grandpa who grew up on the southside and died in 2001 For all of us on this board.... For ALL the fans.... For Ken Williams who had the class to say he was happy for all the generation of Sox fans who never saw a world series and how he felt that reponsability!!

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) I'm not blaming him at all. Cory McFerrin or however you spell it on FOX was being a tool. He is a life long south sider and White Sox fan. When he mentioned his 84 year old dad who was back in Chicago watching the coverage he had to stop because he was going to cry, then when they went back to the studio Dane Placko and the female anchor were chocked up and she just flat out said "Hey, we're all Sox fans here, this is sports and we don't have to be neutral." It was the best scene I have seen because it was genuine... I teared up when I finally heard Rooney's call... he went crazy and Farmers silence said a lot too.

I think the 3 complete games by the starting pitchers and the under .200 BA by the Angels have covered a lot of the umpire talk, even in the national media. Even the most supportive Angel fan would have a hard time putting a majority of blame on the umpire when their offense has looked horrible, Chone has been a major dissapointment in this series, he's striking out way too much..
-
It has been refreshing to read and hear that this is basically the opinion of most of the reitred baseball players who are now analysts. It seems like the over the top opinions have been coming from people who need to fill time on their shows.

I wouldn't be suprised if some of the Lincoln Park bars like Kendalls or Halligans are good spots. Might not be an out and out party, but it will be on and there should be some Sox fans there

i think there was some ice skating on, i think most Cubs fans were probably watching that

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) So, how will you answer the question we're all sure we'll hear tomorrow: "So, how much did you pay the umpires?" from a Cubs fan. Any suggestions? I was thinking things along the lines of: - the same amount that we paid Bartman to screw you guys in 2003. - the same amount we paid Ronnie Woo Woo to wash our car yesterday - the same amount that we paid the clubhouse attendant to put cork in Sosa's bat - the same amount that Prior and Wood paid for a round of golf yesterday -if it happenned to the Cubs it would be considered "magical" -Michael Barret would have gone back to the bench -Aramis Ramirez would have struck out instead of hitting a double
-
It will be funny to see how the Cubune spins this, I'm sure they'll focus on the call about 98% and call it bad and wrong and largely ignore MB's awesome outing. if it was the Cubs they would shrug it off and say it's part of the game and it shows how the team is magical.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) I think my argument is that Paul threw the ball out to the mound before the 2nd signal by the umpire. I 100% agree with you and that's not getting mentioned too much. The replay obviously shows him tosssing that ball, or at least starting to, before the fist in the air. This is the crux of Kruk's argument on ESPN, he is basically saying in that situation Josh Paul cannot take it for granted and should have tagged AJ right away or asked the ump...
-
At least Kruk and Reynolds on Sportscenter initially are saying roughly the same thing. They're saying that Josh Paul handled the situation poorly and that the ump probably never called A.J. out because of how he reacted that's their initial reactions, I won't be suprised if they change once the higher ups at ESPN talk to them.
-
Also Kruk and Reynolds on ESPN basically said no matter what happenned Josh Paul screwed up in how he handled the situation, and they think the umpire never called him out based on AJs reaction

It may be a little more tonight. From what I heard all the tickets were available because NY Yankee big money fans have trolls in most cities who snarf up tickets. Since it was so last minute that the Yankees didn't make it they got stuck with tickets and less than 24 hours to dump them. Now that they had more time the deals may not be there again, however with the loss last night it might keep some bandwagoners away and the prices down.

QUOTE(GasHeGone @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) 1) Are we getting Byrd on full rest? 2) Didn't it strike you as a little odd as to how overjoyed the Angels were to advance? They seemed a lot more excited than the Sox. Probably trying to enjoy victory while they can... 3) Can someone explain the "Bronze Titan" banner to me? 1. He started on Friday, pitched into like the 2nd or 3rd, so not a full amount of pitches, but he wasn't good... 2. This was a hectic 2 days, so I'm sure they were f'n thrilled 3. That was Castro's nickname for Contreras, he was his favorite pitcher -

I wonder when the Angels have to have their roster in, probably by noon tomorrow... it will be interesting to see if Colon and Washburn are on there or not. Likely in the next 2 games the Angels are going to have to go deep into their bench, so they likely won't want players hanging on if they're questionable at best -

I was watching Monday Night Football and they had an interview with Jim Belushi, he slyly mentions the White Sox and Al Michaels says "You're a Cubs fan, you can't be pulling for the Sox!" and the Belush answers; "well, you can be a Chicago fan" I then shut it off, I didn't want to hear that idiot explain any more, so expect his dumb ass to be gooning around the Cell... :headshake :puke -

why this roller coaster ride for the Angels could hurt them, I'm not penciling these two games in for the Sox quite yet. I bet a lot of Indian fans figured the wild card was theres with the Sox coming in that weekend, especially that Friday game, but we all know what happenned... it should be a really good series, espically if Colon can go in Game 3 -
There's a few dissadvantages I can think of, ie Garland resting long etc... however overall I think it's HUGE... espeically with NY/LAA going 5
