  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) That's the big question. If this team does fall apart and doesn't make the playoffs how many people could you keep around? Could you keep Ozzie and KW, or would the damage be too great? I think it all depends on how Ozzie handles it and what the actual collapse is... if they make the WC a lot of this will be covered up, but if they totally collapse and Ozzie goes on a complete tirade they may have to get rid of him. I think there will be articles and tv coverage, but a lot would be different if when you turned on the TV Oct. 4 the Sox are playing at Yankee Stadium in the playoffs
  2. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) The white flag wasn't anything that people outside of our team and baseball really cared about. This is attracting people in a way like the home run chase did. This will transcend the game...as odd as that might be. well, i'll be optomistic about his for one second, if the Sox can actually get their s*** together, make the playoffs and even advance it can be a huge positive
  3. Heard on Boers and Bernstein the other day Congress is also talking to players he's played with to confirm he did steroids before the hearing so they can nail him with perjury charges
  4. i know someone mentioned earlier that ozzie looked like s*** in the press conference, but did anyone have the stomach to listen to it? I know I didn't, I'm just interested in what he had to say...
  5. I appreciate the job Hawk and DJ did calling the game tonight. They didn't come out and attack the Sox, but they're starting to lay it out in front of their audience which I appreciate... I give credit to Harrelson for jumping all over the all RH lineup tonight, also by saying, before he threw pitches, that Jenks is throwing way too many low fastballs now... also, DJ bringing up the fact that the Sox destiny is in their own hand, I think that's just him recognizing how well the Tribe has played, but also saying that the Sox have really done this to themselves
  6. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) Splitting goddamn hairs. It doesn't matter to me. We're all incredibly frustrated right now. I just need an answer. Hello? White Sox? You playing on the 4th of October? as pessimistic as I am, I'll answer yes. The Twins offense is not that great, so Sox should at least split with them and the Tigers, that's 95 wins, even if the Tribe sweep the Sox the Red Sox aren't playing so hot now either, so I think Sox will at least get the WC... I tell you what though, I do not want to see El Duque again this year, McCarthy pitched a tremendous game tonight, simply unbelievable. Hats off to him, The Count and JG his last 2 starts..
  7. QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) i'll be there. Contreras will be on the mound against Lohse. Lets hope we will have a victory. like the idea of starting this thread right now, the team HAS to forget about tonight right now and come out and light up whoever is throwing for the Twins... I posted it earlier, but KC is playing with some heart, and I think they'll eek a win or two out in their series, but Sox have to win their own games, come on Count!!
  8. i'm a huge pesimist, both in real life and on this board, but I still want this team to win so bad, that's why games like tonight feel like a punch in the stomach
  9. I want to say hats off to KC, yeah they lost tonight, but they are still playing with heart, I actually have confidence they'll help the sox and win one game this weekend
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I agree with you, they sure are. Their criticism has been very direct, and very pointed. DJ in particular, but Harrelson has not shied away from criticizing either. I like it, they are restrained but they are telling it like it is ... and they know the game. yeah, i think they tried to play good soldiers for a long time, but now it's getting to a point where they are embarassing themselves if they make the same excuses. DJ is right, their destiny is till in their hands with 1.5 lead (2 in the loss column) and a 3 game lead in the WC, and I hope he keeps saying it, because IMO it's the best criticisim of this team right now... yes Cleveland is playing AWESOME, but if the Sox played a little above average they would still have a good sized lead in the division
  11. just to post something positive, B-Mac was off the hook tonight, what a gutsy balls out effort. If the Sox make the playoffs there's no excuse for it not to be JC, JG and B-Mac
  12. Atleast Hawk and DJ are starting to lay into the Sox and Ozzie (specifically the all rightie lineup tonight)
  13. wow, this game was unreal tonight... Dye can't hit a f***ing sacrifice fly? Ozzie still sticking with Marte? Not bunting the leadoff man and letting Everett swing away? No clutch hitting? B-Mac duels with Santana and they can't win the game? 1.5 games, that's it...
  14. anyone know how Boston is handling their last week or two of play? I know they've been playing OK, but the Yankees are about as hot as Cleveland right now.. is there panic, or did the WS give them a honeymoon period? This hurts a lot, they have a bad bullpen allready, and it's getting overworked.
  15. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) We could make our lineup all lefties + Ozuna. it's possible Everett may bat lefty, he's done it before... this will be an odd game, with last night's egg laying and the weather looking threatening there will be a little crowd, Sox seem to perform well... I hope B-Mac gives them a chance, I have confidence he will
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) They are very misleading. Nothing happened. Freddy and his wife were sitting on the other side of Jr. yeah, I imagine ballplayers wives have to have thick skins, even if there husbands don't do anything woman are going to throw themselves at them
  17. what the hell are we as fans supposed to do after the last stretch of games, espically at home, cheer?
  18. ah crap, I thought Tribe have tomorrow off so Sox can face Santana with the threat of only dropping a .5 game, s*** but I just saw they have Lee v. R. Hernadez tomorrow, so now it's a full game at stake...
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) The thing that concerns me with this team is there appears to be a lack of fire right now. Think about it, a huge win last night, a sellout crowd, your biggest winner on the mound against the opponents #5 starter. I was at the game and if you looked at the White Sox players between innings, between pitches, there was no look of intensity. To a man, this team looked absolutely bored. Tomorrow doesn't look good, but maybe something crazy will happen. Maybe they will try a different approach against Santana, and hopefully, they'll try something different against Haffner next weekend. agree 100%. The approach against Elarton (sp?) tonight was embarassing. They just laid an absolute egg
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) We have been shuffling talent on and off this team for years. Last year we got rid of Valentin and Lee. Who do we get rid of now? Well PK is gone I imagine, I imagine the Dodgers and Red Sox will make a run at him and pay him around 10m
  21. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) For the hell of it, i'll say the 5th inning of tomorrows game. I'll go out a little further and say 2nd inning tomorrow, it will be bases loaded no outs, and they manage one run out of it, and that will be it... B-Mac pitches his ass of and leaves after 7 tied at 1

    Lost

it should be interesting to see how they handle this year, I think they have to start moving the story along a little more than they did last year. The first season they had the whole unique concept and getting to know the characters to build slowly, but now it's going to have to rely more on plotline. I think the writer is extremely clever, so I look forward to this year
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) My feeling: the White Sox don't suck, but the Indians are a superior team. Add to that fact that the Yankees are playing great baseball, and we're going to need the Yanks or Red Sox to lose about 4 games the rest of the way to have a great chance at the playoffs. Our realistic magic number for the playoffs is 7 right now (adding in the fact the Yanks and Red Sox play 3 at the end). yeah, sounds about how the math is working in my head as well, IMO splits with each, so that's 4, Red Sox pitching is struggling right now, but do you know what Yankees and Red Sox schedules are?
  24. QUOTE(JediMaster @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) .Great words from a smart man there! Tribe vs Sox IN CLEVELAND last 3 games God i love baseball right now the way the Sox are playing they likely will go 4-4 over their next 8 games, I'm guessing splits with Twins and Tigers So, if it's a 2 game lead going into Friday, that means Tribe would have to go what, 5-2 over the 7 game they have left before the big series to only tie the Sox? and then the Sox would have to win 2 out of 3 to win the division? That would be a tall order at this point, espicially since I see the Tribe going 6-1 over there next seven, s***, that's depressing to think about
  25. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) The team sucked tonite, tomorrow is another day, this is gonna go down to the wire. No one said it'd be easy. I wish tomorrow was just another day, but it's "Santana Day!!" meaning this is a 2 game lead no matter how well B-Mac pitches, which should be interesting since he's off a regular rest schedule. Santana is still a tremendous pitcher, but against the rest of the league he is not as unhittable as he was last year, but f'n Sox and their swing for the fences attitude fits right into his fastball/changeup arsenal...
