QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) DJ thinks that anyone he can't get a hit off of is good. Oh wait, that's EVERY pitcher. I know, and it usually is just laughed off by me, but JP Howell's numbers are horrible and they are completely ignoring it, it's unreal -

Sorry if this has been covered already, but Hawk and DJ are making fools of themselves in how they're covering J.P. Howell. They are comparing him to Jamie Moyer (sp?). DJ said "It's obvious he's good" Really DJ? What makes you think that? That before today he gave up 18 ERs in 18.2 innings at home. If Sox don't get to him tonight it's a direct indictment of Walker IMO -
phew, Haren pitched his ass off and got 2 runs of support, which was enough for A's to pull off a 2-0 win in Cleveland

You have to send Marte home for the year
SoxFan562004 replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Even if he was late for a 100% selfish reason, I don't think the rest of the season is fair punishment. I can see a reasonable fine and suspension, but if this was an isolated incident I don't think the whole season is fair. I know I've made some dumb mistakes in my life, and I appreciate that people have seen them for what they were, isolated mistakes, and given me an opportunity to attone. If Marte keeps pushing the envelope, then yeah, get rid of him, but for now I hope they act rationally. -
I agree with above, I feel that PK will walk and Overbay will be playing 1b for the Sox next year

MLB could head to London in 2007

QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 06:20 AM) How would it be such a travel nightmare? The flight from New York or Boston to LA is about as long as a flight from NY or Boston to London. jet lag and time difference would hurt too. I think London is something like 6 hours ahead (?) of us in Chicago. So if they played an afternoon game on a Sat or Sun, it would be like it starting at 7:00 a.m. for players, and like 5:00 a.m. for west coast players. -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) With Washburn being a LHP, I see it as nothing more than Pods getting a day off. Like Ozzie has said in the past, he likes his players to get the whole day off. With 2 day games in a row following the Fri. night game, it makes sense. I agree with the LHP being the reason for the full day off, but if Sox face Angels in the 1st round and Washburn is able to pitch one of the first two games, considering his road record, he will. I wonder if Ozzie is going to let Pods face lefties in the playoffs or not.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Not sure what to make of those comments. But we need this game. It's big. well at least in the playoffs he won't have to worry about it really though, IMO these aren't really what I want to hear. I think Sox are now 12-18 against playoff teams, they really need to pick it up, I would like to see them play better, too many missed opportunities last night -

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Yeah no s***, you don't want them on the plane for 8 hours. yeah, NBA would be the first league ever to attempt this, but the travel is so impossible now it's unthinkable -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) This is scary. I put on Boers and Bernstein who are usually negative asshole when it comes to everything Sox and what do I hear? They're backing the fans saying they understand why noone was there and how dumb the comments were by the players. Stating that this has been one of the best attendance years in the history of the Sox and who the hell would want to watch the Royals play? that is shoking!! But I do agree with them 100% The tribune and other outlets are not reporting how well the attendance has been going this season. They wait for one poorly attended series and fire away. I didn't see any reports, except one little line in the Sun-Times, that the Sox broke 2 million, which is pretty important. I can't stress enough how impressive the numbers are this year with the season ticket base the Sox have. Games against bad teams and shaky weather will look horrible because there is zero interest.
-
Don't forget if you get shutout of tickets on the day of, check back a day before or the day of. They usually release tickets. I've had success with all types of events doing this.

Could we be watching the best Sox pitching staff?
SoxFan562004 replied to BFirebird's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think on ESPN radio last night I heard the '64 Sox have the greatest difference between team ERA and league ERA, it was roughly 1 run less... -
Anyone watching this tennis match?
SoxFan562004 replied to WilliamTell's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The woman's match last night with one of the Williams sister was tremendous as well, she lost, but I can't remember who beat her!! -
this is what a low season ticket base does. Watch some of the Cubs games during the weekdays at the very end of the season, espically if there is bad weather. They'll announce 30+ but there will be nowhere near that in the stands...
-
This is typical tribune B.S. There were no major stories when the Sox broke the record for selling out games or even a major acknowledgment that they broke 2 million last night. They take the opportunity of a down series to drag this s*** up... unreal
-
Haven't heard the reason that he's difficult to work with, I heard he retired for awhile to raise his kids... but that could be his people spinning it if he was having trouble getting roles

I want to see El Duque the rest of the season in the rotation because of his record in the postseason. However, I don't want to see KW and Ozzie let Duque start a big playoff game if he is still struggling. He can't be allowed to start on reputation alone If he pitches well the rest of the year give him a shot, if not, he can't be trusted

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) People want to add a bat...maybe KW already thinks the bat is in house. Podsednik off the DL perhaps, or maybe, just maybe, it is Gload. I think KW wanted to add a bat, but with the complete lack of moves it seems there was no market this year. -
when I go into some topics (like the College Pic em in Sports Bar tonight) it will boot me offline on AOL... Do i need to set my settings a certain way?

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) Why can't the Sox ever get a rookie to have a big performance late in the season? fathom, you're a solid poster but this should be in green right? I mean Anderson and Iguchi won the Seattle game on Friday and Bmac and Jenks combined for a CG SO of the Texas @ Texas, both games during a downturn... those are big in my book

not as big of a hit since noone else added. the biggest surge would be if Uribe has one of his two week stretches he had last year where he is insane at the plate, and start it about Oct. 4!! but since he hasn't really had one all year, not likely

can we send Maroth a boquet of flowers or something??? I think Indians were like 7-1 in Lee's last 8 starts,
