you nailed it man! Great post! This should get thrown in KW's face until JR fires him and brings in the next guy who can't get the job done
-
well he has to sign with another team first so we can trade prospects for him!!! This has to be done right!!
-
"White Sox sign Hidalgo.... That's right the Chicago White Sox resign "Poppi" Hidalgo" KW says "Uh, we saw what Pedro's little friend did for the Red Sox, and even though Poppi isn't anywhere near that short he's cheaper than Pedro's friend, that guys asking like $10 for a picture with him!! JR said 'no way'
-
White Sox 2005, Damn, that learning is fundementals field looks great!!
-
lol, holy s*** I needed that laugh, thanks!! Like KW in a flight suit a'la President Bush, at a podium with Miguel Cairo and a huge "Mission Accomplished" banner behind him
-
The Sox should just change their names to "The Chicago Stealth Bombers"
-
boy, there's a chance I'm going to come off like a huge windsock this week, because either KW is going to sit on his hands or make the dumb move to end all dumb moves this weekend at the winter meetings after 3 dissapointments this early (RJ, Wright, Vizquel) GM's are going to try and take advantage of KW So what, Garland, PK, Sweeny, B-Mac for Jamie Moyer?
-
as I'm choking on these words.... I.... agree..... (damn, that's how bad this off-season is shaping up) BTW, it's on another thread, but KW is supposed to be on Boers and Bernstein tomorrow... someone please post a report (i would weep if I listened to him) "um, you know, these guys didn't fit into our plan... I'm extremely dissapointed about what has happened"
-
that sums up my feelings too. I'm in the middle of finals in my 8th and final goddamn year of college and grad school.... I just wanted some positive news. All KW's big talk about "top of the rotation starter" is what fired me up... now all this s***.... Like I said earlier, I'm sitting here thinking of what the Sox could do and I just don't see any of it happening (Renteria, Pedro, Beltran, Kent..... just goes on and on) Another off-season of overhyping average players (again, my money is on Cairo)
-
I'm a Dodgers fan (spent summers in LA growing up) and I'm scared to death of Perez in the Cell.
-
man I agree... this would be 2 years in a row where the 5th starter is just simply not addressed in a sufficient way...
-
for me it's hard to judge right and wrong until the major moves are over... usually mid January. With that said the longer KW waits the more prices are going to go up everywhere. I tend to wait to judge GM's until their roster is in place, and my panic is adding to my insane ramblings... but options are running out. So if KW pulls something out of his ass then yeah it's a good move... but if KW does jack s***, then no I think he should have overpayed (how's that for riding the fence!!) theoretically this is part of his job to make these projections and make decisions based on them
-
I do think you can make minor moves like that and compete (Marlins and Angels give me hope, note not the Moreno Angels, but the ones who won the Series with a ton of role players). However, I think you have to have a system/ballclub philosophy to achieve that. This is not a route you can turn to in mid-stream. You have to sit in your baseball meetings and target these guys early, not late.

Basically KW is going to come to spring training with the exact same team as last year, except no Maggs and Contreras in the E-Lo role (actually the hindsight E-lo role because the Sox expected a lot from him coming into spring training) :puke that's how I feel right now.... I'm just panicing as a Sox fan.... I know I'm going to wake up to "Cubs sign Beltran" tomorrow
-
best part of that will be his ERA will be 6.00
-
the thing that is going to piss me off the most is when KW tries to spin some mid level signing as a big deal.... my money is on Cairo
-
If KW is going to panic and overpay at this point I want it to be for Renteria, I would rather have his glove and bat than overpaying for a 2 or 3 starter This is going to suck... and we have to deal with the Second Coming of Nomar tomorrow in the paper and the radio (completely ignoring the Cubs played better with Perez at SS)
-
Thanks, I just threw up in my mouth
-
man, I know.... I'm in total panic mode right now... but what are the White Sox going to do? It just seems now that any "big" name FA's are getting offers from the Sox and going to other teams to top it.
-
Man, I was an optimist too (still am I guess) but I just hear KW saying "well we wanted to improve, but at the right price, and we think we can compete in this division with what we have, I'm excited!" I will literally throw up when I hear that. I have no idea what KW is going to do now, overpay for Pedro or bring some #3 starter in here and say "oh well he just hasn't got a chance, we think he can be a top of the rotation pitcher in this situation" while the ghostly spectre of Todd Ritchie hovers above him. I know the Pedro thing won't happen, but neither will Renteria, Beltran, Pavano, Clement. This is it for KW as far as I'm concerned, if he doesn't pull something out of his ass he HAS to be fired, this would be the second off-season in a row not doing much, with the added attration of losing Maggs. UHHH!!!! I'm just frustrated right now... The White Sox have to realize that what they decide the price for a player is isn't the market price. Did the Tigers "overpay" for I-Rod? Probably yes, but there was no chance in hell he would have gone there without doing it.... Sox need to do something soon
-
That makes sense, because if he wasn't that trade really would be one of the worst trades in the last few years
-
lol, look at Chicagosports.com and the blurb about Nomar resigning (I don't have registration so I can't get the full link), it's like 'Nomar enjoyed his stay so much he resigned' Yeah, that's why it took 5 hours before the arbitration deadline for him to sign, a one year deal too. He wasn't taking all that time looking for a long-term deal or a better one-year deal that nobody was offering... Pure Cubune spin (if hell freezes over and the Sox sign Renteria i wouldn't be suprised if Cubune and Mariotti say he was the Cubs 2nd choice and the White Sox got stuck with him because Nomar wouldn't come here or some similar BS)
-
This line-up still can't create runs. It can score a bunch of them, but when it comes to trying to create them it still will struggle and fail in close games.
-
At this point I don't even think we're in the Renteria race. Unless this is the move that KW is "flying under the radar" on, I don't think the White Sox will even make him an offer.
-
I would rather have Edgar long-term than Nomar for one year, but I guess that's a toss-up argument. However, with this signing I think the Cubs really need to sign Beltran or their off-season will be puzzling to me. They didn't get a big named closer (I don't care if they end up with Kolb, he's good, but not the big name), and now they won't pursue Renteria. So basically the Cubs are prepared to bring back virtually the same line-up that failed to close a wild card birth. They really only have one open position and that's OF somewhere (They're not moving Sosa, and if they do they'll be choking on his money this year anyway). However, Beltran's no guarantee to them, they'll have to outbid the Angels and NY, and atleast pay him 13.5 a year that Houston offered him.
