  1. the one thing I'm taking from this is that I feel the White Sox will make a big deal involving a pitcher this offseason. It's a week out from the world series, and ESPN and Rosenthal (Who's with the Sporting News I believe) have the Sox mentioned in deals for Randy Johnson and Hudson. I would say that is a good sign that KW is actually attempting to do something, and I know a lot of people doubted the White Sox would get the Garcia deal done. (I know some people don't like that deal, but the White Sox weren't the only team after Garcia, so they did out deal some other teams). It should get interesting, I also think the Vizquel deal will get done early in the offseason
  2. Yeah, I agree, MLB is very good about cutomer support for orders
  3. You know what's odd, I'm a very moderate person, but voted for Bush. However, I was so glad I had a person like Obama to vote for. I think he truly has "it" and am very proud that he will be representing IL on a national scene
  4. Haven't heard, but waiting for Mariotti's column blaming The White Sox and their fans
  5. I know this may be unpopular since he went into the Hall of Fame with a Red Sox hat, but I'd like to see a Fisk statue
  6. yeah, you know, like the curse of the "Fish Hook" the Florida Marlins had, or the great "Snake Bitten" curse of the Arizona Diamondbacks, or how about the great "Lack of Prayer" curse the Anaheim Angels had? Wait... those teams didn't have a curse and they won the World Series!!! Listen, if next year the White Sox go deep into the playoffs and the Cubs choke again a lot of the fair weather fans will show up and "support" the White Sox.
  7. I could be way off, but isn't the majority owner the guy who owns RC Cola?!?!?!? Again this could be some crazy s***
  8. Thank you!!! I argue this point with everybody, but nobody seems to believe me. At school the Sox general counsel spoke and when I asked him about the ownership structure he said "I'm the only person who really knows that answer, and even I need documents in front of me to answer it." But he did say in no way is JR a majority owner.
  9. teams like the Marlins of 2003 and Angels of 2002 give me hope. They were teams with middle payrolls who were able to get on a roll at the right time, which is really the key to winning this thing
  10. I think some of it revolves around the new construction at the Cell the last few years... MLB and the home club like to give a week or two of lead time to finish off new work in or on a stadium
  11. Sounds like, and this could be purely Public Relations BS, but the Sox want to add a top of the rotation starter and slot everyone else down, so Cotts wouldn't fit in... but again, this could just be off-season banter trying to keep interest in the team up. SI.com in their rumor section quoted the Sun-Times saying Don Cooper's meetings with the White Sox open spot have centered around top-level talent http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/scor...mors/index.html under MLB, like third or so from the bottom
  12. I'm going as Norm McDonald as Burt Reynolds from Celebrity Jeopardy on SNL
  13. Bernstein on WSCR has described Curry's low blow as "one of the biggest punk moves" he's ever seen. I didn't see the fight... do those who saw it agree that it was a punk move?
  14. I think the Edmonds catch when he scaled the wall and was about 3 feet over it to take away the home run was hands down the Web Gem of the year. That is one of the best catches I have EVER seen, much less just last year
  15. Last I heard on the radio is that it's reported the Bears have invited him to Hallas Hall for a physical, and the Bears PR guy wouldn't comment but did say Lovie will have more to say about the situation either today after practice or tomorrow
  16. Great scoop! ESPN's Bruce Levine is reporting they will offer him the job after his contract runs out with the Expos (I believe they said Nov. 2). I think you beat the local radio outlets with this by at least a day or two!!
  17. Believe it's Ole Miss, and goes something like "Hotty Totty, gosh almighty..." and goes on... heard it a lot when Eli was QBing down there... Just cracks me up
  18. This shows how the older I am the more and more I hate crowds! I would hesitate to pay face value for tickets for big sporting events (Turned down good all-star game tickets 3 different times last year at The Cell). I prefer to head out to a local bar. Great atmosphere, cheaper and easier to get home. Also, just like the creature comforts (multiple TV's etc...). Just underwhelmed by most live sporting events. I know most people love people like me because it's one less competition for tickets, and usually give away tickets when I get comps. (However I LOVE live concerts!!! go figure!!!)
  19. When this first went up I said, and voted for, starting Clemens on three days rest, now I kind of like the decision of resting him and having him start with full rest, espically since Oswalt can pitch behind him. I would have LOVED it if he would have rested Lidge an extra day or only pitched him one inning because then St. Louis would of had to go through Clemens, Oswalt, and Lidge all on a good amount of rest. Now you have Clemens on full rest, Oswalt pitching on 3 days, but not starting, and Lidge after pitching 3 innings, so it should be interesting. Suppan needs to come up HUGE though, Isringhausen has only pitched 2 innings 2 or 3 times this year, so he will be tired, but I'm sure Woody Williams will gut out a performance if needed.... anyone have a good read on St. Louis pitching order for today, ie if Suppan is in trouble who comes in?
  20. Oh man, it's going to be crazy, I think the Cubs pipedream of signing Beltran has been completely axed. Realistically I see at the minimum Beltran, Pavano, and Randy Johnson (he will pay all his salary and just give the D'Back's money) If not the Unit then Clement or another top FA pitcher. I agree, this may be the offseason where it's obvious to all involved that the Yankees payroll fiasco has to stop
  21. The sad thing is I can see Loiza getting a guaranteed contract from some team (at least one year).
  22. I would agree with you if the alternative wasn't Pete Munro and/or the bullpen was deeper. Backe pitched out of his mind in game 5, wouldn't count on a suprise performance again. Only positive is Lidge has a rest day and would probably be available for 2 innings
  23. just a quick update on this story... it's like 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and I've been poking around the net and the radio and haven't heard anything new on this. (not doubting the original post or anything, I heard it too, just saying what is going on now)
