  1. I agree that this sounds bogus, but adding Nomar for the rest of this year is a hell of a lot cheaper than keeping Johnson for next season. If KW feels he needs to add another piece and can't afford Johnson, maybe he can afford the rest of Nomar's contract for this year
  2. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is the answer to that
  3. The good thing about baseball jerseys is that they are easy to clean. I have a Kelly Wunsh (SP?.... I know, I know, I have the jersey I should know how to spell his name, but it's the end of the work day and my brain stopped) game worn jersey I got from Soxfest a few years ago and as long as you don't let a stain sit there forever it comes out perfect. Don't forget the teams only get a few jersey's a year and they're always clean, they're made for heavy duty wear
  4. I wonder if the union would look into a Everett to White Sox deal. I know KW wanted to resign him this offseason, but due to the weird arbitration rule the Sox could only sign him to a contract over his market value. Now for the Sox to get him for a few years at a deal they couldn't sign him to in the off-season my send Fehr and his croonies into a tizzy. I highly doubt that anything could ever be made of it but, I just think it's interesting.
  5. Wow, that is really sad. I remember how Sunny use to be a knockout and she actually had a knack for the wrestling industry. This is one of the greatest "Say no to drugs" adds I have ever seen
  6. Illini, Just so you know I didn't write that post to "correct" you or anything. (That's the b**** about the written word, there's no tone to words). I have no doubt that what you wrote is exactly what you heard... ESPN 1000 and all stations mix stuff up to keep listeners all the time. I was just simply giving an update on what I heard and giving my 2 cents on the deal. I actually think this deal may happen, because like I said, both teams can use this deal. I don't want to be labeled as one of those posters who go around correcting other people's posts, I was just adding to the discussion
  7. Not saying this story is wrong by any means, but WSCR, the other sports station in Chicago, is not even mentioning this proposed trade. What it COULD be is Levine is in Houston for the All-Star game and the Cubs and Red Sox are have preliminary discussions and they are stressing the story to keep listeners hanging around (Again, not to say this trade won't happen, because I think it could make sense for both teams.) I would think that the Red Sox would need an impact player, probably Clement. They are 6 out in the East and either in the Wild Card lead or within a game or two. I would think they would not just trade him for prospects unless they have a deal to get Cabrerra. Also Hendry could be using this as leverage against the Expos to pull the trigger on a Cabrerra to Cubs trade. (Similar to how people say KW used the Atlanta rumors to push Seattle to make the Garcia trade) Dan Patrick just had Schilling on and nothing was mentioned about it, also the "National" Sportscenter isn't mentioning the rumor. Edit: Just listened to the 2:20 update on AM 1000, now they're using words like "the teams are in discussions." Not using words like "close" or the ilk.
  8. I haven't had a chance to get to a game where Shingo is used... What is the full enterance like? Is it just gongs or a specific song? Atleast they're not playing "Turning Japanese" by the Vapors, I think that would be a little more racist. But when I first heard the gongs on TV it did run through my mind about the PC'ness of that Hey SoxNBears, are you getting ready for NCAA '05 to be released today?!?!!!??! I know I can't wait!!!
  9. Compared to the rest of the stadiums/arenas in Chicago the Cell is not really that bad. Soldier Field- Horrible, you either get there early or you are shuttle bussing from McCormick or Grant Park AllState Arena- Probably the biggest problem. There are roughly 1000 cops when you come in and about 2 when everybody leaves. There's no real good way to get back on the highway, luckily I live in Villa Park so Manheim is a real alternative for me. United Center- Close to the Allstate nightmare. There's no direction in the parking lot, people are going everywhere and trapped in by other cars. Wrigley- You would have to be high to park anywhere near that place during a game
  10. I agree... I think if we had both Borchard and Reed I would have been pissed if we called up Reed. That's not to say I don't think Reed has the chance to be a very effective major league player, it's just JB fits better right now. For starters Reed was struggling a little at AAA, now that's probably because of his wrist injury, but scouting reports have that information and pitchers would have pitched in on his hands every at-bat. I also think that if Borchard hits one of his hot streaks when he's called up he can put up significant numbers hitting 7th or 8th in this line-up. Also, it's s*** or get off the pot time for JB. He's 25 and has had a substantial number of at-bats in the minors. I've seen that people say his problem is that he's overly intense (Basically he brings the football player mentality to baseball, which is often hard to manage for a 160 game season as compared to a 12-14 game college football system). If it doesn't work out it seems like the Cowboys are always in the market for busted baseball prospects (he can back up Hutchison and Henson at QB!) I don't know what JB the Sox are going to get, but I'm actually excited to see how this works out, I think he has a chance to make a good impact
  11. I agree!!! get him under the knife tonight if need be, that puts him at the end of August which, if Maggs comes back full-time soon, should be managable. I think Borchard needs to be called up right now or get another bat off the bench (I'm thinking Stairs from KC, but something a little better would be nice)
  12. Games like this piss me off... The Sox were struggling to put some momentum together, they get two run homer in the 1st, ELO gives up the lead, goes on to give up three more runs, his team picks him up and gets a tie, then he IMMEDIATELY gives up the go ahead run!!!! :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke
  13. This is a big inning for ELO to go 1-2-3, or at least not to let them score... Sox need to keep some momentum going...
  14. Home Run C-Lee... Let's light this b**** up!!!!
  15. I could be mistaken, but I think the J-Hood/North thing is a little more friendlier than the Mac/Dick-Face feud. I'm not saying that Hood and North are best of friends, but I think they both have tougher skin, and North knows if he keeps doing the "character" he portrays on the radio he is going to take some shots.
  16. I think Maggs is probably close to coming back, maybe even PH today. I think they want to get Diaz and Rauch regular work at AAA rather than bullpen work in the majors. Thomas could easily go on after todays game and call Borchard or whoever up for tomorrows
  17. We are treading water while Maggs, Schoenweiss, and now Thomas is out... I think if the Sox can keep the Twins around where they are now the Sox should be OK
  18. If Thomas goes on the DL we HAVE to promote Borchard and put him in at full time DH, or in RF if that means Maggs can come back sooner and just DH. It's time for Borchard to show what he can do at the ML level, and I can't stand to see Jamie Burke DH anymore
  19. This is a good article, if you get a chance I suggest reading it...
  20. On the 12:20 update ESPN 1000 in Chicago is reporting through Bruce Levine that KW will or has made a new offer to Maggs (this is after Maggs' comments yesterday) Please merge or delete if posted elsewhere
  21. Just heard on Jim Rome that he will have Mark Buehrle on his show in the second hour. In Chicago that would be 12-1 on AM 1000. Not sure if it is tape delayed here in Chicago or not.
  22. Voted "loved it" I think Borchard has more "superstar" potential (I did like Reed a lot though) I just think it's one thing to look at "potential" and another thing to look at a proven Major League front end of the rotation pitcher. I just like the fact that KW used minor league and major league potential to obtain a proven pitcher.
  23. I think this is why signing Garcia to the extension during the season was HUGE!!! I just feel that we got an excellent price for him, I mean Colon was 12-13m a year? Garcia had similar numbers to him, and with the Yankees pitching staff getting up there in age I expect them to throw a s***load of money at FA pitchers (ie, Loiza (sp?), Pavano, etc...). Also the Rangers cleared money with A-Rod gone, and I assume their attendance is up due to their contending, so they will probably be willing to overpay for pitching (I think that Chan Ho Park's contract may also be up, so that will save them $$$$)
  24. No need to post a new topic but KW was also on the Score this afternoon (About 4:30) and reading the recap of his AM 1000 interview it was pretty much exactly the same thing... Only thing I can add is that he really stressed in the Score interview that he personally talked to Maggs about Garcia's signing, he wanted to make sure he heard it from him and that it in no way changes his situation (I know it was in the AM 1000 interview recap, but he REALLY stressed it when I heard the Score interview)
