  1. Yeah, this scares the crap out of me. I love the job Ozzie is doing, but I think this teams struggles with "fresh" pitchers extended beyond the manager. It could possibly be a problem in scouting
  2. This morning Mike and Mike (Greenberg and Golic) were doing a little baseball round-up type segment and they mentioned how well the White Sox have been playing so far. Basically praised how well the team is responding to Ozzie, and said it's their best start in 12 years (Have no idea if that's true, but that's what they said). Only negative thing they mentioned was questioning the bull-pen. I know Greenberg use to work in Chicago about 5-10 years ago, and he seems to support the White Sox often.
  3. I can't agree more with Brando about Wright. If Rauch, Diaz, Cotts, Grilli, etc... continue to pitch well there's no reason to keep him in the rotation. It makes me sick when a pitcher walks hitters and then serves up homers and DW is the KING of this. Yeah, he only gave up 3 runs in his last start, but it was in 4 and 2/3 innings. I loved it when Ozzie yanked him after the walk.
  4. Didn't see this posted anywhere, but Jeremy Reed was on the ESPN Radio "Baseball Show" on Saturday with Rob Dibble and Karl Ravich (SP?). Basically they got him on because he's hitting so well and he's one of the higher prospects. Reed came off very well. He basically talked about how he goes up to bat attempting to get on base, not just being focused on hitting a homerun. Both hosts seemed impressed, and Dibble pointed out how many young OF's the Sox have, and how hard it's going to be for him to break into the majors. Dibble did mention that the Sox and Maggs are trying hard to get an extension.
  5. One thing that SI is doing which ESPN never does is admit they are wrong. All the guys on ESPN (Gammons, Reynolds, Dibble...) pick something in the off-season and then defend it to the death, even at the expense of another team who is playing well. I predict the Sox are going to get the shaft a lot on ESPN if they end up doing well this year because everyone there picked Royals or Twins
  6. Didn't we go through this situation with Maggs about 3 years ago when Peter Gammons reported that the Sox had all but traded him, then the next day they signed him to the extension he is under now? It even got Gammons to write a column apologizing to KW and JR. So let's sit back and see what happens. The two sides weren't even talking awhile ago, so there's progress on that front at least And as far as Mariotti goes, screw him. Both sides have said they were talking (JR on the Score and Maggs in the clubhouse), and Maggs said they were close. He just tries to stir up controversy, and it seems to have gotten personal with him and JR. With Anderson's extension this week at 12m a year I think Maggs is signable. The thing that pisses me off the most is that Mariotti flat out BS's in his article when he said that Maggs didn't really talk about staying in Chicago until he got back here. That's just flat out wrong. His statements in NY were all prefaced with things like "I want to stay in Chicago," "I would like to come to NY if things don't work out in Chicago." Now some may argue it's all PR on Maggs part, but he did say those things, so for Mariotti to omit this is ridiculous.
  7. I think the first 3 series were hard because of the line-ups faced. I think NY and KC are top 5 line-ups, so since we won 6 out of 9 of those I feel OK. Espically since only 3 were at home.
  8. Wasn't Clemens supposed to come here when he was a FA, but Reinsdorf wanted Jamie Navarjo instead? (However, I'm sure every franchise has about 100 "near misses")
  9. This guys stuff looked nasty in this series!
  10. I could be wrong, but except Koch and after opening day the pen has been pretty solid. Politte has looked good and so has Adkins. The key is that Marte has had 2 strong outings in a row. Is Wunsch comes back healthy and effective it's an OK pen
  11. As crazy as it sounds I'd rather see Juan Gone beat us, SO BE CAREFULL!!
  12. Damnit, Sox were lucky enought to have 7-9 in top of 9th, I don't like 1-3 in top of 10
  13. ESPN would still stroke KC's weiner and say how Pena purposely let them get swept to build character. Yesterday ESPN referred to the Sox as "Fading" even though they won 2 in a row and are 5-3!!
  14. Marte did pitch one inning other than opening day, I think in NY and didn't allow a run and looked sharper. How did he look today for those with a TV? (I'm right about the NY inning right? I've been known to think things that didn't happen)
  15. Wasn't Ozzie supposed to bring that to the team?
  16. Is Damaso pitching? Pointless story alert!! I played HS ball with Jody Gerut (aren't you happy for me??!?!) (actually I was on freshman he was on varsity), and last year when Damaso hit him with a pitch me and my friend laughed our asses off
  17. I'm reading "The Sports Guy" in another window while monitoring the game... BOY he really sucks now... He had about a year run when he was funny, but over the last year (when he's worked for Kimmel) he has been horrible, same 3-5 jokes every column!
  18. early front runner in my book, Kiera Knightley (SP?) the blonde from Bend it Like Beckham and Pirates of Caribean (I know I can't spell!)
  19. hey DonkeyKongnerko, who's the girl in your side bar? (always meant to ask this)
  20. 5-5 top of 8th, the Bears are winning
  21. I just think it is a good sign that the years are the issue right now. I know you have to take a lot of news reports with a grain of salt, but it seems that they got over the money hurdle and are now just haggling about years. I think Anderson signing with Anaheim probably helped the Sox cause when it comes to money
  22. Levine has been on ESPN Radio this morning saying that the Sox and Maggs are very close to a contract extension, and the only thing that is holding it up is a 5th year. It seems if Sox give an option (didn't specify if it is a player or team) the deal will get done. Terms seem to be 12-13m a year (I heard this during the 7:40am update) Sorry if this is posted elsewhere
  23. Sorry, I listen to a talk radio guy named Phil Hendrie.... Just cross up in the brain... Going to go edit it!!
  24. This is what I think the Cubune headline will be.... Wrong Maddux Takes the Hill for The Cubs by Steve Sullivan In an unfortunate error Dusty Baker sent Mike Maddux to pitch for the Cubs in their 2004 home opener. Mike Maddux, older brother of Greg "God" Maddux, has been retired for many years from professional baseball. This mistake would explain the horrible performance of the guy wearing the Cubs uniform with the name "Maddux" on it, because there's no way that Greg Maddux would perform this bad. When asked about the mistake Cubs GM Jim Hendry said "Well that explains a lot. I was really confused on what was happening to Maddux because I know I can never make a mistake and be completely wrong about a player.... oh yeah, the beer is still cold at Wrigley." When asked how he accidently sent the wrong Maddux to pitch Cubs manager Dusty Baker responded, "Well I was a little busy looking at a picture my son Darren drew for me, you should see it, it is of me and him dancing in a field. Anyways, when I was looking at it I just yelled 'Maddux, go out there and take the field', so I didn't REALLY specify which Maddux. Oh yeah, Prior's health is fine." When reached for comment Greg Maddux explained why his brother pitched in his place, "I was planning to pitch for the Cubs today, but from what all the Cubs fans and newspapers reported I thought I didn't actually have to throw a ball. I thought that Dusty would just write my name on the line-up card and the other team and MLB would give me credit for pitching 7 innings and only giving up 2 runs. By the time I realized that I actually had to take the field and throw the ball it was too late, so Mike went ahead and threw for me. That didn't work out well because he's been retired for about 53 years now. Oh yeah, I would like to thank Mr. Boras for getting me a ridiculous amount of money for my current skill level." The Cubs released the following statement about the situation: Everything is OK, come out drink some beer and look at some overrated woman. We promise next time Mike Maddux won't pitch when Greg Maddux is scheduled. (Allthough we can't guarantee some other family member won't pitch for him).
