  1. If the Cubs win I can just see the quotes "Well this was a hard fought victory against a VERY underestimated team... games like this get you ready for the playoffs...." :puke :puke
  2. I'm getting ready to puke... Barrett Grounded to SS, Sosa to third, so Cubs are gonna fluke with either WP or a duck snort hit and everybody will be sucking Hendry's and Dusty's cocks about picking up and using grieve
  3. Sosa at second with one out and Barrett up, they should IW him so there's a force at third and the Cubs have to use a PH for Farnsworth... also Barrett is probably the Cubs most clutch player
  4. this will be a "vital" win for the Cubs no matter what, but with Hawkins blown save it would be a "costly" win. The Cubs haven't had a day off in like 2-3 weeks, with that double header to Florida trip and they've played at least 3 11 inning games with Pitt and NY, so the innings are piling up for the bullpen, and even for the players who are hurt like Ramirez and Nomar...
  5. F, Casey just grounded into a DP, 2 outs in top of 11th Sorry if this has been posted, but I think Hawkins is 2 of 10 in 1 run saves... that is horrible!!!
  6. I agree... When you watch Garland the stuff is obviously there pitch wise.... I just think he's got a little too much of the California laid back attitude. He may very well get traded and tear it up for another team, but the trade may just be the shock that he needs.
  7. While not free agents I'll say that Wells, Colon, and Garcia were all significant additions. This may have been posted here, but Gammons is saying that the Yankees are going to make a run at Pavano, so you can forget about anyone but them getting him if that is true. This may be stupid optimism, but with the new TV contract and attendance numbers going up when the Sox are in contention I expect the Sox to make a major splash in the offseason, could be trade or FA
  8. Just seeing if it's just me, or if other people think Bill Simmons columns on ESPN.com haven't been as good/funny as they use to be. I thought it had to do with him working for Jimmy Kimmel and that was distracting him, but now that he doesn't have that job anymore, and he's been writing more for ESPN, his columns have been lame. He basically talks about gambling and how cool he is. Also another thing that is PISSING me off is that he's completely ripping off Adam Carolla (Loveline host and writer for Jimmy Kimmel). I listen to Loveline every night and think Carolla is one of the funniest people in the business, and he will say something and the next week it is in Simmons column. Even the tone of his writing is similar to how Carolla talks. I think this is a case of someone who wrote really well for about a year and has just been riding that for a long time.
  9. The Braves might not just give up the games to the Cubs. I think if the Cubs make the playoffs they would play the Braves in the first round, so the Braves might not want to face the Cubs rotation (which may have had its struggles, but is still really good) in the first round.... So the Braves may treat the series like a playoff series and try to keep the Cubs out of the playoffs
  10. I think that Z is in management at the Score, so he has a full time job there. I don't know if he would prefer an on-air job, or would rather do the 9-5 thing. That may be why they've never done a regular time-slot
  11. Good to see this quote. While I think this team needs a little more on base in the lineup I wholeheartadly agree with the concept of needing power in US Cellular. I'm actually willing to give KW a semi-pass for this year (through gritted teeth) because of the injuries to Frank and Maggs, this is like telling these playoff contendors that you're going to lose the following bats from your lineup for nearly half the year: Cubs- Ramirez and Alou or Lee Rangers- Soriano and Texieira (sp?) Astros- Berkman and Kent Braves- Chipper and Drew Cardinals- Rolen and Edmonds Dodgers- Green and Beltre Angels- Anderson and Erstad (Vlad is in another category) (I'm not even going to say SF because nobody in that lineup matters except Bonds) I know some may want to nitpick numbers, or point out that all of these guys haven't played the whole year, but I realize these aren't EXACT matches. I'm just trying to say if you take two potent bats (in this case the opening day 3 and 4 hitters) for a substantial portion of the season you are going to struggle, especially in a hitters park like The Cell.
  12. This is why I don't overly freak out when GM's trade minor leaguers for Major leaguers such as Garcia... yeah you may be giving up the next John Smoltz, but I think it's more likely you're giving up the next Scott Ruffcorn
  13. Sorry if he's been mentioned, but RAY F'N DURHAM. I never liked this guy. I know he may have some stats to back it up, but he was hitting in a lineup with Frank near his prime. This guy always sucked to me, especially in the field. I just never liked him
  14. That's awesome, the Dodgers are my favorite NL team, and haven't seen a live Dodgers game in about 8 years!
  15. Out of the contracts mentioned I only think the Konerko contract is bad. i think the MB, Garcia, and Lee contracts are all reasonable fair market deals
  16. I may be completely wrong, but I think KW has been burdened with a lot of high price contracts which weren't of his own doing. I think this off-season will be a good gauge of his ability, he's getting at least 19 million off the books with Maggs and JosE5. I'm not throwing my support behind KW, but in my opinion he'll be out of excuses after this off-season and I want to see what he does
  17. it's a pretty funny shot... It's when Easley swings and his bat flies and hits Lenny Harris... when it's hitting Harris you can see me and my friend totally ducking out of the way on the left side of the screen (we were in the front row behind Fla. dugout)
  18. I went to the game today at the Cell and had a good time. My friend and I ditched our afternoon classes and got there about 11:30, we ended up sitting in the front row behind the Marlins dugout Jack McKeon was hillarious, he was waving at all of us, and giving us thumbs up. The players would also tip their hats to us (I was sitting in a group of people with Marlins gear on) They flew in their mascot and announcer (Weird not to hear Gene Honda on the Southside), and must or all of the between inning jumbotron things were the Marlins (like a swamp boat race, etc...) If the Marlins don't get their new ballpark and Lowell escapes his contract I would love to see the Sox make a run at him. Today he had a s***TY day at the plate, he grounded into two double plays and popped out with a runner at third and no outs, but he DIDN'T sulk, he still sat at the top of the dugout cheering on his team mates and made some solid plays at third, he's the exactly type of player I want to see on the Sox. So, if anyone has a chance to get out there tommorrow, I suggest you do so. It's cheap and a unique experience
  19. Looks like I'm just going to blow off my afternoon classes and go, I'll be wearing a black marlins hat and an Eric Gagne "Game Over" t-shirt, come up and say hello if you see me
  20. I want to say the Sox have raised their payroll the last three years, and are going to have a decent amount of free money, and the new TV contract should mean more $$$$, so simply a free agent will come here because the Sox will over more $$$ than another team (Who thought that the Tigers would have gotten free agents, but they gave them the money)
  21. I hate to defend an idiot like Harold Reynolds, but I believe, and I could of heard it wrong, he was saying that Santana and Radke may not be as effective in the post-season because of the mentioned style of baseball. (Now whether that is as stupid is up to the individual reader, but I'm pretty sure that is what he said)
  22. "This doesn't have a whole lot to do with Todd Walker, but I heard him on WGN 720 yesterday saying that he doesn't like the chances of Nomar staying with the Cubs. I guess my question is why not throw a whole lot of money at him? We need a proven shortstop, we'll have some money lying around with the departure of Maggs and I believe he's worth the money. Now, I understand that he is said to really want to play on the west coast (supposedly the Dodgers and Angels will make a run for him), but why should that stop us from making an attempt? " By KevHead0881 eh, the idea of Nomar is great, just ask the Cubs fans after the trade, but throwing money at him right now is questionable in my opinion since there's no real gauge on how healthy he is, and how lingering these injuries are. Watching him play (especially defense) with the Cubs is almost sad. This guy use to be electric, and that's just not there anymore. He still is a solid player, but nowhere near the old Nomar. So he scares me when talking long term and big money Also, I know there's probably a million other factors people can throw out there, but it opens my eyes that the Red Sox are 29-8 since trading him (I think that's the record)
  23. The funniest Chip/Stone story is either early this season or late last season they were making fun of Santo (a usual occurence). I think they had a guy with a real bad combover or toupee who they split screen with Santo. Santo noticed it and started to get agitated and they kept it on him for a long time. Finally Santo raises his arm (with the idea of getting out of camera range) and actually flicked off Chip and Stone! Obviously Stone and Chip lost it and Stone managed to eek out "Ron is just telling us we are number 1."
