Why should I be excited about Odalis?
SoxFan562004 replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
lol, no not arguing... one drawback about computers is there is no tone to the words... just expressing my panic/end of finals/worked all day hungover attitude today.... This is why I like this site, good conversations!! -
agree totally.... I posted something similar to this in the RJ thread but revolving around the idea of how the papers and radio are going to SHRED him.... this is better than the stump porn Mariotti normally watches to get off
-
it's going to be great when KW gets a question in spring about the Sox not making huge signings and he lists Hermanson, Dye, AND this signing
-
wholeheartadly agree... This could be why the Sox didn't get RJ... AZ wanted "a list of ten" pitchers then heard later they wanted a starting outfielder. KW possibly couldn't land the pitcher and they wouldn't take Garland with out AROW.... KW's comments will be "well we tried, but AZ was asking for too much, I thought we were close to a deal" Dodgers also want to salvage something from that questionable Mota trade, and maybe they think JV and the two prospects help make up for that....

If I'm Sox management and look at the potential worst case scenario (not getting a legit starter for the rotation) rationaly (which is a stretch for Sox management I know) I would make the simple argument that look, KW was making public comments about adding a top of the rotation starter and I would hold him to this. It's horrible PR for the team (I can't wait for some of the columns that are upcoming). KW has to start being held responsible for this team constantly failing to make the playoffs -

I want to say that around 6:30 ESPN was basically reporting the same thing... that the White Sox were out of it... it's also possible that the early report of the 3/30 was a screwup from their source and they were talking about the Red Sox -
LOL, yeah, but it's ROTOWORLD, it would have to take an odd cheapshot at the White Sox

Right, what I'm arguing is that the Dodgers and Red Sox have hefty payrolls, so unless you're the dips*** in Baltimore you have a huge competitive advantage to put a solid team on the field, no matter what your theory of constructing a team is. Tornto has such a low payroll that no philosophy would work except 5-10 players have career years... What I'm saying is the A's have a similar payroll to the White Sox (possibly less?), so I think the White Sox may be a good team to try this theory out... hell nothing else has worked (Only thing I'm worried about is The Hawk would die upon hearing the news) -
right... since there's no tone to these posts I want to preface this question by saying I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything... I'm genuinely curious... OK, I see some of your points about how risky RJ was, and Clement too... but I would rather overpay for one of those two than lose out on everyone and run through the 5th starter fiasco again. So what is going to happen if/when the Sox run this team out on opening day? (other than spend some of the money for KW's security at SoxFest.) The team as presently constructed does not do a lot for me... I supported the Lee trade assuming KW was going to get a good starter for the rotation...

yeah it was random...

I'm just dreading another day off columnists and talk-show hosts ripping on the Sox for losing out on all these pitchers (KW did put pressure on himself by saying what he was pursuing though). This may sound odd, but I think the Cubs are getting off light for non-moves... they couldn't land Kolb, they didn't even make a run at Edgar (and I know they signed Nomar, but I think Edgar longterm is a good investement), and call me crazy, but the Cubs should have been in on the Hudson trade discussions. You're telling me they couldn't beat the Braves package with their hyped-up farm system?? that's all I've heard about for the last 3 f***ing years.... Wood Prior Zambrano Hudson Maddux would be insane... but the Cubs will get a pass

Podesta also got that team into the playoffs, and he's still putting his mark on that team.... I just think KW miscalculated by going after all these high end pitchers, I just hope he has a few backup plans because I defended the Lee trade thinking he would spend the money in the offseason, not in July -

yeah, I realize that, but I'm just wondering if KW has the wrong mindset to GM the White Sox... I think his plan of getting a top pitcher was flawed because of the Sox salary issues. I think JR seriously has to consider firing KW and bringing in a Money Ball man.... -
ESPN article makes it seem like the thing that may be holding it up is Yankees giving him an extension and some "perks" like Suns tickets have to be resolved.... so since it only seems to be jammed up on money, I expect NY to get that resolved quickly

I think he meant why should he get excited of the potential of him signing here... not his pitching ability... I agree though, I don't see him signing here... -
yeah I agree... i think you have to do all you can to put yourself in position at the trade deadline.... man, they have to do something for that 5th starter
-
If RJ is really pulling this s*** and I was the AZ management I would sit down with him and just ask him to accept it.... this needs to be over for them, because if they don't compete he'll be b****ing about a trade at the deadline

5th Starter for the WhiteSox in 2005
SoxFan562004 replied to southsideirish71's topic in Pale Hose Talk
:puke :puke man, when I read your post I just got shivers... that would be a joke if we don't have a servicable 5th starter coming into ST, Mariotti might actually write an article I agree with soon.... -
Man, I know I'm overreacting, but I don't think I've ever been so disapointed to be a White Sox fan.... I really didn't expect KW to land RJ, but now it looks like Clement isn't coming here, and I just think the loser in the bidding war for him will sign Perez (looks like Angels now). What can KW really do now? I hope he pulls something out of his ass, I would be pissed if this was the team come opening day (even if they add Pryz)
-
I would have to go with either of the first two at this point... There's no guarantee the Sox won't be sellers instead of buyers come July and I don't know who else is out there via trade
-
If the LA/AZ/NY deal goes down I would love to hear why the Sox 3-way didn't go down.... Either KW balked at giving up too much or NY/AZ really didn't want what Sox were offering
-
I just see Perez going to Angels or Boston, whichever one doesn't sign Clement
-
Yeah, that means no Vazquez, because I imagine the Dodgers will want to hang on to him... so here comes Pryz...
-
Preaching to the choir about Wood man.... Love those numbers. I think Wood is a very good pitcher, don't get me wrong, but I think he is overrated... He needs to learn to maximize his pitches and go deeper into games
-
I just don't see the Sox getting their starter at this point because you would think the loser of the Clement bidding will out bid the Sox for Perez. RJ isn't coming here, and Hudson is already off the market. I know KW and JR have tried to backtrack a little on the Boras comments, but I don't see Millwood or Lowe here, and how quality of a signing would Milton be? I think they should try to get a C and 2b....
