  1. Reading "Public Enemies" which chronicles the chases of Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde and other early 30's criminals and caused the creation/expansion of the FBI
  2. I'm going to go out on a limb, with nothing backing it up, and say they have a deal with the Cubs for Sosa
  3. I'm going to have to agree with you there... Not that Schoe was my ideal option to be the 5th starter, if KW doesn't make another move there I would rather see Schoe as the 5th starter over Grilli
  4. yep, great South Park about it this season!!
  5. They may be saving money for Beltran, or they think he might have won too much in arbitration... they can still sign him
  6. wow, I am shocked by the contract... That seems like a lot of money for a guy who people were saying gave up in Montreal... I know he kicked ass for the Red Sox... but this seems like an awful lot for him
  7. This should help the Sox if they are serious about going after another starter... it's just another good arm to "water down" the market... now Lowe and Perez aren't the top names out there... If he's healthy I would love to see Miller on the Sox
  8. KW was also going to meet with AJ to see what his side of the story was on all of the "bad attitude" rumors.... it's possible KW didn't think the meeting went well and decided not to have him on the team...
  9. Well, Schoey wasn't the greatest pitcher in the world... but at least he had some experience and a little success starting games... KW really has to get another starter now... Hoping he did this after he heard some others were non-tendered... I know I would really like to see Wade Miller at this point...
  10. Garland has to step up if he's here Not someone who has to "step-up" but it's critical that Shingo shows last year was not a fluke
  11. I know KW was supposed to meet with AJ personally... anyone else hear about any other teams that were going to do that?
  12. Beltran turned down arbitration from the Astros.... does this mean he can't resign with them now? Not sure what the effect of this is. (Because if he can't resign with them, that means Clemens is basically retired)
  13. I'm with the train of thought that the Sox need to add a starting pitcher to even think about being in the position to save this money for June/July. If KW pulls a good bat (and I mean above average) for 2b, ss, or C (keeping uribe at 2b or ss) I would accept him getting an actual 4th or 5th starter (Estes to throw a name out there as an example) and then see what happens in june/july.... just someone to give them 6 innings a start and keep his era under 5.50!!!
  14. It will be interesting to see what Beane does with Zito... I can see him taking the risk of him having a solid first half and then trading him at the deadline, a pitcher with his history and a solid few months could garner a ton in July/August
  15. Wow, if the Astros reink Beltran the Cubs are in trouble.... I said it when Hudson got traded, the Chicago media should be all over Hendry about not landing, or at least be in the mix for Hudson or Mulder... I know they have their big three with Zambrano, Wood and Prior, adding Maddux, that's a very very solid top 4... but their going to go with Rusch as 5, who is coming off a career year, Maddux is a year older, Wood has never won more than 14 games, and Prior seemed to lose his edge with some of his "mysterious elbow" problems last year. I just know if the Cubs would have got Mulder or Hudson Prior Zambrano Wood Maddux they should have made a run... especially since their farm system is supposed to be deep, and that's all the Cards and Braves gave up basically... But we will be subjected to more blather about what a great GM Hendry is and he's waiting for the right move
  16. I'm not 100% sure, but I think when he killed the Cubs in that doubleheader it came up a few times afterwords
  17. yeah, I agree... until they prove me wrong the Sox won't get a pitcher via FA
  18. Let him sit in AAA, there's still always the miracle possibility that the light turns on and he is productive...
  19. I'm not sure if this fits the tread, but not worth starting a new one.... So many of the dips*** cub fans always say "the cubs make money hand over fist, we should have a payroll close to the Yankees" while it is true the cubs make a ton of money, the cub fans forget something that I always try to explain to my friends who say it (to the same one at least 10 times) THE CUBS ARE A PART OF A CORPORATION!! The owners of the corporation have the cubs as a conduit to make money, this is the same trap the Angels fell into with Disney. (they didn't spend a ton of money on the Angels when they owned them, and what they did was an effort to boost attendance and make profit) It would be horrible business to operate a part of a corporation that either loses money or barely breaks even, it makes no sense to have it then....
  20. my main problem with this is I don't think the Sox can make any strong assurances they will be in it in June to use the payroll flexibility. I would rather have them spend the money now, bring the strongest team they can into Spring Training and then see what happens in June/July
  21. Not dropping anything from the phone call... just seems like extra info on the 3-way trade which he is saying will take at least 8-10 days to complete
  22. I'm thinking.... "Hi Mr. Levine.... Main Street Dry Cleaners here... do you want light or medium starch?"
  23. Bruce getting a call right now... will be back
  24. Come on now... I think it was Nancy Faust
  25. Also saying this 3-way trade is a "long, long way from being completed"
