A .266 average is not "solid," he strikes out a TON, and it's not like Konerko is a horrible defensive first baseman (like Cub fans think.) Add in the fact that the guy is a really incosistent hitter, has never been an All-Star, never had 40+ homers in a season (you should've heard how many homers the Chicago radio was predicting this guy was going to hit in 2004,) and has never drove in 100+ runs in a season. I think he is a good player, but I would still take Pauly over him.

IIRC, Schilling was the head prepresentative for the players back in 1994. I also think Schilling has a clause in his contract that doesn't allow the team to trade him to a team owned by Jerry Reinsdorf.

So why do you suggest signing him? What makes you think the Sox will sign him at that price, or even sign him at all? And I don't think there's a chance in hell that Reinsdorf give out another long term deal to a starting pitcher AND a long term deal to a reliever.
