Backup Catcher in 2009?
You really need to think harder. He barely played and should be thankful he got a chance to feast off a crappy Barry Zito to keep his OBP above .300

Backup Catcher in 2009?
He was terrible offensively, bad defensively and was lucky to get the ball to second on less than two hops. He did this all while being one of the highest paid backup catchers in the league and skipping surgery in a completely lost season. Screw his fat, no power, no throwing, slow, overpaid ass.

Good riddance OC
How in the world was his defense consistent with his career averages? He won gold gloves before, and this was obviously not a gold glove award season. Shouldn't we expect more than slightly above career averages (which aren't that good aside from BA, which isn't that important for a leadoff man) when trading away one of our starters and paying the guy $10 million? Whatever happened to Cabrera being the infield defense leader?

The piece that doesn't fit
Yet he could force the team to do so regardless. EDIT: Betsy interrupted, but there's something I wanted to add. Vazquez demanded a trade when he was with Arizona but that was an extension he signed when he was traded to the Yanks. I think he had 2 years of arbitration left (2004 and 2005) and the Yanks signed him to a 4 year $44 million deal.

If that's all you're asking for, why not keep Uribe for less than half the price and trade Garland for something else? True that we're 3rd in the AL, but we were 9th in the MLB in K's against.

The piece that doesn't fit
Really? Not a single team would offer something for a OF or 1B despite his down year? Does Swisher have the right to demand a trade because he was traded in a multiyear deal, or is it something with his arbitration years? I think it's worth talking about since the Sox have a logjam.

You've just quoted three of the worst fielding stats in the sketchy world of defensive metrics. All you told me is that he has a lot of balls hit to him (The Sox aren't quite a strikeout staff,) and usually makes a lot of those plays. He's had a few generous calls go his way (intimidation?) and has botched some DP's that aren't counted as errors because you can only assume one out.

That's just because they love him so much and want to save him the gas money.

Free agents?
..and you can have the speed like Bolt, but your .650ish OPS still won't get you a full time job or be a good baseball player.

Thread for "Crazy Kenny" moves involving players 3+ years pa
I was going to say, haven't we b****ed enough about CF defense the last 3 years (yes, including some of Rowand's routes and plays like the one against the Indians at the Cell in September) with guys like Owens, Mackowiak, Griffey, Ramirez, Swisher, Erstad?

How sad is it that? We're actually looking foward to a player hitting .240. I know his OBP is sky high, but now I see why. I hate his approach at the plate, and I never did understand why people kept penciling him in for the first base gig. Even if he put up his Oakland OPS numbers, he wouldn't be good enough for first. People railed on Konerko's .842 OPS in 2007 yet Swisher's was .835. People were correct on USCF helping his numbers because he f***ing sucked on the road this year.

He's coming off a 3 year-$39 million deal. Define "cheap."

Cabrera was a selfish prick. Did we already acquire all the remaining players who were good in Montreal yet? Dare we sign Jose Vidro for 2B next year? How about Brad Wilkerson for CF? Cahd Cordero is supposed to be non-tendered.

Liptak says he can't make a single start next year for the Sox or they're responsible for his entire contract. I recall August being the earliest date for his return, so why push it? Chances are his replacement will be putting up similar numbers.

Personally I would rather see the Sox take the approach of spending wiser and not just relying on payroll. Crede, Cabrera, Uribe and Jose's insurance policy should open up some nice cash.

How did Balfour put up such great numbers by throwing nothing but fastballs?

Or even worse, accept arbitration.

Sample size. What about the other two months with the Sox?

I know people are counting down Cabrera's at-bats, but how about Griffey's? His last possibly at-bat could be striking out ona pitch in the dirt. How fitting. Hopefully alot of the guys that I will put in my sig (I'll wait until it's officially over) get cut loose from the organization.

Screw Swisher, move Dye because he has more value. Get a real CF.

Twins have "internal discussions" about Cabrera and Crede
He had a .705 OPS and lead the AL in outs made with 509. Screw him and his misleading batting average.

TV/LCD Tv?
It'd be 19" wide if you can find one on sale so I advise to start saying up and spend $1000 to get a much better one.

Tampa Bay @ Chicago ALDS Game 3- Matt Garza Vs. John Danks 3:07 CT
f*** yes! I was hoping Bobby would run Upton back to first. he had like a 20 ft lead at first

I think Paul Rudd's impression of DeNiro in Knocked Up was a lot better than any of the stuff I've seen with Caliendo.
