He would've stuck up for his team more if he drove in that runner on third base. Uribe would've appreciated it more.

...and then get made to look like a fool by the reliever in front of a national audiance.

No two draft picks =/= young players because they will be more expensive (if they even sign,) have less experience, and cannot be immediate trading chips for a possible larger package. Wait. Are two draft picks equal to two young players or not? Garland would've brought back compensation for the sandwich picks which evens out Cabrera's. So why are we even saying it's two picks when in reality it's a draft pick no lower than 16th in the draft at best. There's even a possibility that Cabrera's pick won't even be in the first or second round because the same team might sign another type A free agent.

I think that OPS and SLG% shouldn't be held against a leadoff hitter as much as a DH as well, but it shouldn't be ignored entirely. Obviously I'd take Sizemore over Podsednik (remember that argument from 3 years ago) but I don't think it's fair to use a metric that is driven by power and compare it to all the players in the MLB to a small skinny guy whose manager expects him to drop bunts because he's fast and does it well. If Taveras was on this team I imagine Ozzie would be expecting him to bunt for a single in the first bat of every game and if he didn't he'd ride the pine.

That's true, but I'm not going to get a boner over getting them based on the Sox's history of draft picks over the past 10 years. Draft picks are more exciting and important to smaller payroll teams who live off their farm system. High payroll teams who cannot settle for rebuilding years don't care about draft picks as much. Look at the Yankees declining arbitrtation to everyone yesterday. For once and for all can we please stop assuming that someone who doesn't/didn't favor the Cabrera acquisition thinks/thought that Garland should've been on the team? I didn't want either of them here for 2008. I'd rather trade Garland for a package of young players (or even something like the Garcia deal at the time) or a prospect that might be 1 year away. That way we wouldn't have to worry about paying million dollar signing bonus for guys 2-4 years away.

Um, actually that's the only thing that could make it a decent deal. That's also assuming the Sox use those picks to get somebody worth a damn.

Of course if WCW was still around Rourke would already be holding the tag title with someone. -
Will the White Sox offer arb. to Uribe and Cabrera?
santo=dorf replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What couple of million? He made $4.5 million and if he's offered arbitration he'll ask for $5.5 million. That's way too much for a defensive sub with some HR pop. -
Thank you

Sox make offer to free agent pitcher Odalis Perez

Home: 2.65 ERA, 1.13 WHIP Away: 6.53 ERA, 1.92 WHIP gross -
How do you think a 2008 Ryan Theriot would've done if he was the 2005 White Sox DH? Better yet, how would the 2004 White Sox team do with him as the DH?

Our leadoff possibilities are tightening

So basically we trade Dye and a bullpen arm for DeJesus, acquire Taveras, and also put Nix/Getz in the lineup. That's a downgrade and I'll be pissed if the Sox sit on Dye's money if they get rid of him. -
Caught the flu for a few days over a month ago. I drank juices and took some seasonal flu medicine, but Advil PM works the best. Take some of that and sleep through the days.

They're also the same people that say a sawoff soft shot to the second baseman is equivalent to a rocket hit down the line. Give me 5 instances of those 350ish at-bats where he was unlucky. Triple that, Konerko had a higher line drive percentage than Swisher as well.
-
would some care to list all the at-bats that were "unlucky?? remember, caught looking on the outside corner K at-bats don't count because the ball wasn't put in play another flaw is that BABIP doesn't remove foulouts out of the equation. How can a batter be considered "unlucky" if he fouls out to the catcher? You can't assume he would get a hit in the same at-bat because there is a least one more pitch to be seen.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) Am I weird for never having drugs or alcohol ever appeal to me? Keep in mind I'm a senior in high school and I'd say at least 90% of my classmates drink every weekend, and a good portion smoke, and a smaller portion do even bigger stuff then just pot. Wow. Here this whole time I thought you were a seasoned MLB scout QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) Wait till you get to college, man. I'm in the same boat as you I’ll drink socially, yeah, but the idea of just getting trashed and waking up with a splitting headache has no appeal to me.

From the list; Marcus Giles and Morgan Ensberg are listed twice, and Todd Jones and Mike Mussina have both retired.

Funny how Thome is called "unclutch" around here yet his OPS with RISP was higher than Morneau's.

Morneau had so many RBI's because he had a ton of opportunities. I believe he was in the top of the league in leaving RISP as well.

Mauer handled the young pitching staff, won a gold glove and a silver slugger. He's more valuable. Where would the Sox have finished without Quentin? Behind the Tigers?
