Wal-Mart will launch voter registrations
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to samclemens's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) So as long as we have an UER that is low, the other factors are pointless? Come on, you know UER isn't a good barometer for how well the economy is doing. Was this a talk about unemployment or the economy as a whole? I was talking about unemployment only since someone else brought it up. You may have a point about declining real wages but the economy, as a whole, is still in good shape. -
Troop levels to be reduced in Iraq
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Well, I think this is actually a good thing, in terms of achieving the goals we now have set for Iraq. I think any troop reduction would be a mistake. But that said, one danger lurking on the horizon is that we cannot just keep sending the same troops over and over again, and keep implementing these stop-loss programs. After a while, that system will break down. And with the poor recruiting levels the military is seeing despite all sorts of incentives, the inflow won't be enough. Then it will be time to start discussing the "D" word. Poor recruiting levels? Where do you get that from? According to their little tracker thing they print in the Army Times, they are running ahead of plan for this years recruiting and reenlistment is at an all time high despite the war and lots of deployments. There will be no draft......NEVER AGAIN.........NOT EVER. The military doesn't want it, the government doesn't want it, the people dont want it. About the only person that DOES want it is Charles Rangel. -

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 07:52 AM) Man, this is too easy. Real wages falling, income disparity widening (even compared to medieval ages by The Economist of all publications), negative public savings, foreign trade deficits, do I have to go on? Income Disparity: Irrelevant Negative Public Savings: Irrelevant Foregin Trade Defecits: Irrelevant How is any of that related to unemployment? -
Who could be the next UN General Secretary
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(samclemens @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) DISASTER Disagree. But then I guess all some rouge nation would have to do to get Secretary General Clinton to see things their way is send in some intern/bimbo to park herself under his desk. Hell of a lot cheaper than kickbacks on oil money, thats for sure. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) But I thought unemployment was at historic lows and the economy was rolling along great? It is. What's your issue? -
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) Actually, that's frequently the scenario that the US and France as well as other EU states play when the EU and US have common security goals. Or France is trying to defuse a situation that looks more and more similar to the US drumbeat for a war against Iraq three years ago. Or perhaps France, like it always does, is looking out for its own selfish interests and who cares if Iran gets nuclear weapons. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) Someone on another forum I frequent suggested this idea: What if the US and France are playing out a "good cop, bad cop" scenario? Strongly doubt it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) Hmmm So I wonder if we will start to see those 120,000 copies left on your pillowcases instead of mints at Hilton Hotels now?

QUOTE(mreye @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) That is the best political cartoon I've seen in a long time! Pure comedy gold right there!

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 07:40 PM) I don't fish. Fishing is still preferable to throwing stones in glass houses.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) Probably refers to all the drunkards in Chat. I guess the personal attack policy is now null and void...........or just selectively applied. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) As if all the threads on SoxTalk stay on topic anyway? It was a simple question. Don't hold your breath waiting for an answer. Some of us dont have to answer for their f***ups around here.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) ^^^^^ BobDylan, Would a pic of war torn Lebannon be a more appropriate representation of Gary? Wartorn Lebanon would be a representation of the good side of the tracks in Gary.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) I was just outside of Gary once and saw these 3 guys get out of a car with baseball bats and start beating the hell out of this other dude that was pumping gas. They beat him senseless and they serously messed up his car. And the other people and the station just stood there and watch like it was no big thing. I feel like the guy that got beat up after watching Freddy pitch. It was no big thing in a town like that. You gotta kill at least 3 people before you attract the attention of law enforcement around there. That being the case, I think Gary would be a perfect new home for Freddy. He can smoke all the ganja he wants without drawing so much as a second glance from anyone.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) Nuke, do you really think Freddy could pitch for the Gary RailCats? They have the most expensive park of any minor league team. However, the minute Freddy hit the mound, balls would be flying onto the Indiana Tollroad causing massive ltraffic acidents and lawsuits against the teams. Now if Freddy was pumping gas, he would need somebody to blame for the high price of gas. The sox offense is out. Hmmmm ... Freddy would need a scape goat. Dude. The Gary RailCats would cut him in a New York Minute. Pumping gas is his only option and I think there are several stations in the city that now feature bulletproof glass for him to hide behind.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) Nuke, Freddy would need a big pressure gas station to succeed. Perhaps if he worker at a very dangerous gas station, say one that gets robbed a lot. Yeah, Might I suggest Gary Indiana?
-
QUOTE(skysox @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) I hope this is what I hear about Garcia in the offseason... If Freddy wasn't family he'd be pumping gas in Puerto Rico right next to Jamie Navarro.

One of the things I despise more than anything about being a sergeant in the Army is that every time one of my guys f***s up in his personal life they come running to me to help them fix it like Im their daddy or something. I would like nothing more than to tell them to man the f*** up and deal with it themselves but if I do that then I get accused of "not doing my job" and "not taking care of soldiers" by my superiors and those are about the most damning things that can be said about someone in my position. What I wouldnt give to have a job where I can worry about myself and what Im doing and that's it. SIGH.
-
Thanks for the B-DAY wishes guys. I had to celebrate it a little late due to be being out in nowhere Kansas playing soldier but Im back now and recovering nicely from a killer hangover from last nights revelry.
